Let's start with Monica. She was my first point of contact when calling FPD for home inspection…read moreestimates. She was by far the most knowledgeable person I have spoken with in a long time. She took her time and explained everything. She went above and beyond even before I decided to go with her company. She was very honest and upfront. Securing an appointment was seamless. Monica worked diligently to inform me of a cancellation that secured me an appointment Monday morning. Mind you I called end of business day the Friday before. On the day of inspection, Darin and Jonas worked together to provide efficient service to ensure a thorough and speedy inspection. They covered a full home inspection, 4-point, wind mitigation and WDO with one service call. After completion they met with us and provided a beautifully laid out booklet that explained things like general lifespan of appliances and different building blocks of the house. They were open to questions and were very patient with us. Shortly after I received all reports via email along with a comparative analysis of the neighborhood with timelines in which general repairs were made, given most homes in this development were built the same year. They also offer an array of home warranties that are free with full home inspection services. Because of excellent customer service and additional services offered at no additional cost, FPD was not the least expensive estimate I received but definitely worth it. Highly recommend.

We never signed any…read morecontractual agreement with them but did get a cost estimate with no timeline at the onset for a series of individual projects we needed done for our property that totaled $18,050. Although communication was spotty on their side throughout, we continued to work with them and appreciated the quality of work performed by their direct staff and sub-contractors. Although we didn't get an invoice initially, we asked for one and paid $9,225 of the project (60%) once they sent us an invoice. Once most of the work was done (the only remaining, open item was for installing a shower valve for our outdoor shower listed at $1,500 on our cost estimate), they asked for us to pay the remainder. We did not feel comfortable paying them for 100% of the project before the remaining work was done. It was also not a contractural obligation. Instead, we paid them for all work completed when they asked for the remaining balance. When we didn't pay the $1,500, they claimed that the line item in the invoice they sent over for $1,500 was actually to cover them for "miscellaneous expenses" related to the project (they cited specifically that it was related to removing debris from the work site that they created from the job, and doing "extra work" to straighten our fence, but the invoice stated the $500 was to "straighten back fence, dig around existing 4x4s and place concrete to straighten existing fence"). No assumptions were listed in the estimate or invoice that would suggest we would be charged more. When we refused to pay the $1,500, the owner threatened to sue us and called my partner "a drunk". My partner wrote them out a check to avoid a legal battle, but we feel they charged us $1,500 extra for the project than what we owed them and did not fulfill their obligation to install the shower valve even though we paid for it.

We contacted Inside & Out Property Inspectors and set up a date and time to do a home inspection. They arrived on time and greeted us. There were two inspectors, one for the inside of the house and one for the outside of the home. They explained the process and got to work quickly checking out every nook and cranny of our home. This can be somewhat of a stressful process because you never know what inspectors will find. Did the builder cut corners? Is there some catastrophic problems? You know, I think of every worst case scenario. Both inspectors were friendly and very task oriented, which was nice to see. After about two hours, the inspectors went over their findings with my husband. Luckily they only found a few minor problems and said overall the builder did a sound job on the construction of our home. Is this is an additional expense? Yes. The builder won't cover you having an outside company doing a home inspection. Is it worth it? I think so, while we haven't had our final one year walk through with the builder, pending them making the necessary updates that the inspectors suggested, I'd recommend getting an inspector prior to your final one year walk through on a new build. Pros: -Thorough and task oriented -The two inspectors were nice -Took their time Cons: -You have to pay extra, which isn't the inspection company's fault. I think if getting an outside company to check out your house prior to your one year walk through, it's a benefit and will bring peace of mind. Tips: Inspectors are pretty busy with all the new homes and people purchasing homes, if you're trying to squeeze in an inspector prior to your yearly walk through, make sure you schedule one ahead of time.
