I don't normally post reviews, or bad reviews especially on services. 1 minute into a consultation with Alyse, and she was probably one of the rudest people I've been in contact with. She immediately shut me down after I used the words "I'm trying to improve my diet." Because she doesn't approve of diet culture. And neither do I, I just didn't know the proper terminology. She has a very aggressive demeanor, and does not specialize in any of the areas listed on her site. Eating disorders specifically and weight loss, she sent me a referral for someone else. Sorry, but false advertising, and super rude human! Would avoid her services, if this happened within 30 seconds of meeting with her. read more

In 2011, I saw Alyse for some nutrition-coaching sessions, after turning 40 and feeling flabby and out of shape. Her techniques helped me lose about 25 lbs then. But the reason I'm writing this review in 2019 is to attest that her advice has stood the test of time. By adhering to the good habits she taught me, I've found it easy to keep my weight low & my fitness high. And as she claims, there is no sense of deprivation or being on a permanent diet. It would sound like an overblown cliché for an Angeleno to say that a nutritionist's advice was "life-changing". But I can't think of a more appropriate word -- and going in, I was a skeptic. Better eating habits and fitness have improved every part of my life: I sleep better. I'm more productive at work. I'm nicer to children and animals. And I still get to eat nachos and beer. read more

While living in New York City, she had a thriving nutrition practice and her clients included several of my friends and colleagues who all raved about her and, in turn, sent her more clients. Entirely through word of mouth, she built a robust practice. In 2007, however, she moved to Los Angeles and was forced to start all over again. She hit the ground running in LA and has a steady diet of clients (no pun intended). She has been featured as a nutrition expert on Revolution Health (www.revolutionhealth.com), in Polo Magazine and in the esteemed Bel-Air View weekly. She graduated from the top Masters degree program in the country at NYU and received a spot at the most prestigious nutrition internship program. She truly understands the science behind eating and nutrition and tailors recommendations to individual lifestyles. Since moving to LA, she has been featured on several television shows including Good Morning America and Discovery Channels' "National Body Challenge." She also expanded her growing practice and added a colleague, Caitlin, who also consults on a range of nutrition topics. I'm in shape, and I eat well thanks to Alyse's sage advice. Whether you're looking to fix a problem or just improve your health and the way you eat, I'd recommend Alyse without any reservations. If you're frequenting all of the great places to dine-out that are reviewed on Yelp, you could definitely benefit from Alyse's counsel! I love Alyse. If you are sick of dieting and having you weight yo-you every month... go to Alyse. She literally made losing weight effortless. I dont even think about it anymore- its so easy and I feel healthy. I used to do 5 spin classes a week and still not lose pounds... after my first visit with her, i was already losing about a pound a week. She is very smart and always works with me and my strange eating habits. I recommend her to anyone looking to make a positive difference in their life and get off the "diet wagon" for once and all. Alyse for my nutritionist for over 6 months and I think she is great! She worked closely with me to create and regularly a nutrition plan that fit my needs and lifestyle. And in addition to our regular follows up, she was great about checking in or answering questions via email. I also love all the information available on her website. Unfortunately, I had to stop seeing Alyse when I moved to Northern California and I must say I was really upset to have to end our sessions. This review is written by someone who has extreme difficulty with food. I've battled my weight for a long time and I'm still having problem. Seeing Alyse is like going to school and learning tips from a teacher. It's not a diet. She will not put you on a diet. So, if you're someone who is looking for a "quick fix"...then, you're not ready for Alyse. You really need to be committed to make a life-long change in your food intake. Alyse will give you tools and teach you life-long lessons about nutrition. She will be there every step of the way and provide you with additional tips to help you. You will literally learn how to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You will learn what makes good choices and what makes bad choices. You will learn how to snack healthily. It isn't easy to do (if you're like me and come with 20 years of bad baggage) but it is worth the commitment. She caters to your specific needs - this is not a "one size fits all" plan...she really looks at what you eat and analyzes what is best for you. It is amazing, simply put. I mean, I drive at least 2 hours round trip just to see her...would I do it if she wasn't worth it? Most importantly, she's very patient. I mess up all the time. She works with my guilt issues. So, if you're truly looking to make a life-long change in the way you eat and live, Alyse is the best person for you. I cannot recommend her more. She is, simply put, absolutely amazing. read more

Alyse's approach of weight loss is exactly in line with what I was looking for when I found NutritionBite: no quick fix (usually followed by quick failure, been there several times ...) just nutrition "education" that makes you feel free and not frustrated. Another good point: there is barely no strict taboo, Alyse is doing her very best to adapt your weight loss journey to your cravings too (you must be reasonable, though). My biggest regret is not going to Alyse sooner. Last year I got engaged and reached my all time heaviest. I spent hundreds of dollars a month doing food delivery services and taking exercise classes. Dr. Levine is an amazing nutritionist. She helped me lose 70 pounds! She breaks it down so its easy to understand and helps you change your life eating real food, not crazy fad diets. She helps you with the best types of foods to eat, shows you about portion control, how to really look at food labels. I've always had terrible food habits and have been on crazy diets on and off for nearly 15 years. I finally decided to try working with a nutritionist in an effort to find a permanent solution to this bad situation, and could not be happier that I found Alyse. I've been working with her for nearly a year now, and the difference is like night and day. Not only have I lost weight, more importantly, I have a much healthier, sane relationship with food. Alyse is great! Since turning 53 this year I wanted to get in great shape by exercising and diet.. Its easy to come up with a exercise routine, but diet and eating healthy thats where Alyse comes in. She designs a diet plan with foods that you like. So it really doesn't seem like you're on a diet. Her fees are very reasonable and you would probably spend more money on some FAD diet that does'nt work! I would definitely recommend Alyse. Shes great and pretty too! read more

Alyse Levine has shown me in a very short period of time, why I was struggling with losing weight. Through my discussions with her, I have learned if I want to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle I really needed to examine why I am eating at the "time" prior to eating. Determine if I am actually hungry or do I just need a mental break....a stretch...drink of water...etc. This is a huge paradigm shift for me. In addition, I have learned to make a concerned effort to insert more "self care" into my life...Yoga....time with friends/family...seeing a movie...etc. I have not done much self care over the past few years and I now realize I can't wait to lose the weight to enjoy those activities, but start to include these activities in my life and I will lose the weight. So...what I am saying is....I have made "food" the focus of my self-care and I now know with Alyse's help....that self-care is focusing on......what I am "really" feeling and provide myself with an activity that would match that need.....instead of using food as my "go-to" to fill that need. Let me start by saying I adore Caitlin! She has unequivocally helped me reach my weight loss goals. When I first saw Caitlin I weighed in at about 132 pounds and was a size 6. Today I weigh 118 pounds and wear a size 2 dress and 2/4 pants. That's nearly 15lbs and 2 dress sizes. So at 5'5"...I'm skinny again, bitches! For me, my weight has always varied year to year, but after college I started to gain weight that became more problematic to lose. In last couple of years of hitting my late 20s when I ballooned up to 142, I just kind of refused to face the truth that I had let myself go...for a while. Then at the end of last year (2009) around Thanksgiving I decided that I really had to get on the ball or I was never going to be happy with myself. So, I did my usual thing. I went on my version of the Master Cleanse for a week, exercised compulsively and dropped about 10 pounds fast. OK, good start, right? Well, I felt a hell of a lot better, but now I was essentially not eating at all during the day and only eating at night. I knew that I wouldn't be able to keep that up forever, but I was so deathly afraid of eating the wrong foods and gaining back the weight. I felt stuck. So, I finally broke down and searched for a nutritionist. I just wanted to figure out how to eat again. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Nutrition Bite a call. I choose to work with Caitlin because her schedule catered more toward evening appointments so it was easy for me to fit our meetings into my day. The moment I walked in, I thought to myself, I want to look like this chick. She's in fabulous shape and she's gorgeous. Before we met, Caitlin had me fill out three days worth of an eating journal, my likes and dislikes and any dietary restrictions. Then, at our first meeting, she told me that I needed a complete overhaul on my eating schedule. I freaked out. I was convinced I was going to gain weight. But, when she went over the exact measurements that I should be eating at any given time as well as the times of day and frequency with which I should eating, I calmed down a bit. She also put together ample suggestions of meal plans based on my food preferences and let me tell you, that's not that easy. I maintain a gluten-free diet, I don't eat soy and I also don't eat a ton of meat, so my protein sources can be somewhat limited. However, even with all these restrictions Caitlin brainstormed on a bunch of varied options for some really great meals. After that initial consultation, I left with a ton of suggestions for meals as well as comprehensive lists of appropriate proteins and carbohydrates and snack options. To be completely honest, I was prepared for failure. I think I was just convinced at this point that I was turning 30 in a couple months, my metabolism had pooped out on me and I was destined to remain in size 8 pants or worse for the rest of my life. But, I was determined to give this program a go and I scheduled to meet with Caitlin in 2 weeks time to check in on my progress. I followed the diet to a tee and in the first week, I dropped about 3 pounds really quickly. I was in the 120s again! I hadn't been there for awhile. I seriously couldn't believe that this was working. I felt like I was eating all the time. I was never starving and the strangest thing was, I didn't feel hungry at night any more. In fact, the opposite started happening. I became hungrier in the morning and pretty much full in the evenings. I started seeing Caitlin initially in the beginning of February. It's now the middle of April and I've lost almost 15 pounds. My goal was first to get down to 119 lbs and then see how I felt from there and if I still wanted to keep going at that point, we collectively agreed that I could shoot for 115 lbs. Well, I've exceeded the first goal of 119 and I'm going for the 115. I'm only 3 pounds away and I couldn't be more impressed with how easy it was to accomplish. It's pretty much an entire lifestyle change, but it's not difficult to implement at all. It just takes some planning and thought and soon enough it becomes a habit. And through it all I continued to check in with Caitlin regarding my progress. She has been remarkable to work with. Aside from Caitlin being adorable, ridiculously friendly, encouraging and all around lovely, she is extremely knowledgeable her in field. Everytime I meet with her, she has new information for me so I never feel like it's just a weigh-in. Whether it's a list of Gluten-free products available at the grocery store, meal options with nutritional breakdowns from your favorite restaurants, or at home exercise suggestions, she has made each one of our meetings extremely productive and enjoyable. Alyse rocks! I have been seeing her pretty regularly for about the last year and half, and I've got to say that it's been a pretty life transforming process. I see food in a totally different -- and healthier -- way. During my recent second pregnancy, Alyse got me to really focus on the nutritive value of the food I was eating, which not only seemed to lead to less weight gain, but also generally made my pregnancy progress more smoothly than the first. I have to say that I suck at feeding myself and couldn't believe what the scale said when I got pregnant. The idea of getting skinny before I got pregnant turned out to be a pipe dream. 2 months after my son was born I was ready to "learn" how to feed myself correctly for the first time. I had an injury 5 years ago and found myself eating through the pain. I am also hypoglycemic and would eat the wrong foods just so I would not faint. So not only did I not have the right tools, but I also had emotional issues surrounding my body not working right for me. In the short time I have worked with with Alyse I have already started looking at food differently. She is helping learn how to feed myself the right way. I struggle with learning that I don't need meat all the time and that they are other sources of protein. I have a lot of weight to lose. I am glad I found a knowledgeable and friendly ally in what seemed to be an impossible task. What can I say, I feel lucky to have found her. Update. Alyse Levine changed my life. She showed me how easy and fun being healthy can be with little education, subtle changes and most importantly no crazy dieting! I now weigh 117Lb. and lost 10 Lb. in a healthy way, by changing my lifestyle. She taught me to think about food differently, she educated me about labels, ingredients, exercise and more. In addition, she is very accessible, I can email her questions whenever I want and she is very responsive. After seeing Alyse, I noticed that many people around me make mistakes all the time - I now can make suggestions to friends because of what Alyse taught me. Sometimes you think you do the right thing, you think you are eating in the best way you can - but in fact you are not, subtle changes can make a huge difference in one's life. One small example is dressing on your salad, Alyse made me measure the amount of olive oil I was using, as soon as I started, I noticed that she is right - I can enjoy my salad the same way with much less. Small changes add up - and they add up fast! As much as you think you know it all, you dont and there is a lot that can be learned. Every time I go I leave with new knowledge and I feel fortunate. in addition, I really like that she introduces me each time to new items I would never think of... new brands, great new items I would never pay attention to while shopping - the truth is that most of us keep buying the same things over and over again. Finally, she also made me more conscious of the amount of exercise I was getting each day by using a Pedometer - so now, I try walking at least 10,000 steps a day - thanks Alyse! This is my first time writing a review on Yelp and I'm doing so because Alyse Levine's NutritionBite is not only the best nutritionist / weight loss program around but one of the best services or products I have purchased of any kind ever. Alyse took something that I thought was never going to happen for me, major weight loss (over 40 pounds!!!!), a reality and she made it relatively easy. I watched friends engage in extreme fad diets and knew there was no way I could ever pursue that route, I loved food way too much. I despaired of ever finding a way to resolve my love of eating with my hatred of how overweight I'd become. Alyse showed me that weight loss isn't about self denial or pure willpower, it's about finding alternatives to the unhealthy foods we become accustomed to and more importantly, changing the rhythms of how and when we eat so that hunger doesn't overwhelm our ability to make good choices. I started with her in February of 2009, lost 41 pounds between then and August and have kept the weight off since and am still going strong. The key is that the "diet" I was on is actually a sustainable way for me to eat for the rest of my life, unlike others who go from extreme privation to total gluttony, Alyse showed me a middle path and for that I am forever grateful. Alyse is as good as it gets. I started seeing Alyse when I almost reached that dreaded 200 lbs. Never thought I would be there. I was always a skinny kid until I discovered sweets about 20 years ago. Sweets began to control my life -- I was always grocery shopping for that one sweet that would perfectly "satisfy" me and, of course, it did not. In desperation I went to my doctor who referred me to Alyse. Immediately Alyse made it feel possible for me to look at eating in a whole different way. Sure, at first, I was resistant to some food suggestions but that soon changed when I discovered how satisfying the food suggestions were. In a year and a half I have lost about 35 - 40 lbs. and definitely reduced my weight set point. Alyse does not push you or rush you -- she listens and understands where you are and structures monthly goals that are fun and easy to meet. She has seen me through some rough personal crises and encouraged me when I was being nutritionally sabotaged by the outside world. I love the way I am losing weight and getting toned effortlessly. Alyse was truly a God sent for me. She helped me re-define the relationship I had with food and disordered thinking concerning eating.
