the good: i found this restaurant while searching for vegan…read moreoptions in taos. it came up on google and i was excited to see a highly reviewed vegan mushroom shawarma. unfortunately, that restaurant had been replaced by this chinese restaurant about three months ago. we decided to give it a try anyway. the only real redeeming factor was that the kimchi dumplings were nicely pan-fried and crispy on the outside. unfortunately, there was no discernible kimchi inside. the bad: we ordered the kimchi dumplings, veggie hand-pulled noodles, beef and broccoli hand-pulled noodles, veggie bibimbap, beef bibimbap, and a lemon tea. the noodles were extremely oily and, despite being described as hand-pulled, did not resemble hand-pulled noodles. the beef was questionable enough that my partner couldn't really determine whether it was actually beef. the lemon tea was a sickly sweet powdered drink that arrived almost too hot to drink, served in a plastic-lined to-go cup. not exactly what i was expecting when ordering tea at a sit-down restaurant. the ugly: the stone-pot bibimbap was the biggest disappointment. as a korean american, stone-pot bibimbap means something to me. i don't expect every restaurant to serve korean food exactly the way my family would, but what we were served wasn't even close. the bowls weren't properly heated, so there was none of the sizzling or crispy rice that makes dolsot bibimbap what it is. the toppings were not what i would expect, and the seasoning was completely off. the entire meal came to $81.81, and we barely finished any of it. service was also lacking. other than taking our order and bringing out the food, no one checked on us during the meal. i really wanted to like this place, especially because taos can be challenging when you're looking for good vegan options. unfortunately, i would have rather gone to panda express. at best, i'd describe this as very mid-level chinese food.
