On a vacation to Salida, a friend who lives there suggested we visit a green cat. She said, "Salida…read moreis an artsy town and the very best gallery there is this one." Well, walking in, I felt like a kid in a candy store. I wanted to buy everything -- the stunning diachroic glass, the creative oil paintings, even the handcrafted jewelry! I ended up staying there for over an hour trying to make up my mind, and ended up with two stunning pieces (and a big smile on my face). While there, I met the artist/owner, Steph Brady, and just loved her. She was authentic, helpful, and just the nicest person around. Now back in Chicago, I get compliments on my art all the time. I wish a green cat was located here-- scratch that, I'd probably go broke!

Tickets are purchased in the gift store, and it is a parking lot walk over to the tramway ride. We have been over this pass numerous times and finally got the change to ride the tramway during normal working hours (last ride is at 5pm and you have to ride back by 530pm). The gift store is huge with snacks, souvenirs, restrooms and lots of parking even for larger tractor trailers and camping trailers. Take a light jacket up since it can still get a little chilly and windy at the top. Staff was friendly and helpful, and overall, we had a fun time and a beautiful view from the top the continental divide.

I'm so glad. The ride is short, but scenic views expand geometrically as you rise to the Continental Divide and disembark. It was windy and a bit chilly, but worth it to be up there. It was definitely expanding our boys' horizons. The gift shop has been remodeled and looks great. Check the sale rack for t-shirts if you want one. Among my favorite new tees was here. Great quality, nice design. Score. If you're in Salida or Gunnison and looking for a few hours to kill, this is worth the short drive, especially if you don't get up high much or want to wow anyone from lower elevations. When you walk in the door there is incense burning, so that fit. There is hemp clothing in the back room but I never got back there because I was stopped dead by the number of lovely stones and crystals that are on display in this store. The owner, Lonny Roth, told me many of the stones are mined locally and many of them have a lovely handmade wrap on them. This design I have never seen anywhere before. Not silver, gold or copper, but a thin brown, almost leather, but more like tatting. Stunning! I had no intention of purchasing anything on my retreat, but I walked out with 1 lovely Villa Grove Turquoise piece and 2 Saguache Agates. Stunning! The scenery in this area is amazing, but this store alone is worth the trip.
