Nothing but positive experience here the last month or two since moving in nearby. Staff is friendly, helpful, and quick. The store itself has a decent selection of wines, whiskeys, and beer, and they'll work with their distributors to find something they don't have. Price is competitive with the other stores in the area. Can't complain! read more

Not sure why the negative reviews, but I had a good experience coming here. I came looking for wine and there seems to be a large collection of imported wines at reasonable prices. The place is clean and employees were friendly. I'm not as sure about their liquor offerings but I will be back to check it out. read more

Nah, this isn't collectively anyone's 2 star liquor stop. I've been coming here for ages, since long before Yelp, and have never had an issue with anyone working here. Granted, this kind of liquor stop is the old school, mom & pop type leftover from the older days. Now, the trend is most definitely large outlets ala Cork and Barrel, On The Rocks, Mass Beverage and the like. Why? Because they have more people working, greater expertise (varies), better and a more refined selection and a bit of extra bang for the buck because there's so much to look over at the larger outlets. Case in point: came here looking for the 200th Anniversary Guinness Stout. They aren't carrying it, but they have all the regular Guinness selections. No need to get my nose bent out of shape because these smaller stores serve a more specified need. Much handier if you're in the hood to just come here vs. driving to one of the larger stores and wrestling for parking. If you feel the need to get a shopping cart and shop for 30 minutes, this isn't the place. One thing I'll say about the store: always clean, decent selection for the size and a good variety wines that are of good quality, unlike some of the joints of recent times that have gone by the wayside (remember Mom & Pop's on Mass Street? The place were wine went to die). For a single malt lover like me, their selection is first-rate. More of a convenience stop for me: getting something quick for dinner or a few groceries and want a bottle of wine for the evening, etc. Can see them surviving the larger outlets, and that's a good thing. read more

Normally I love this liquor store, but I came on a Sunday night 15 minutes before they were supposed to be closed and the doors were locked and the employees were standing inside waving their fingers at me. Unbelievable. Pretty unfortunate experience. I probably will not be shopping there anymore. read more

Good example on how to get a bad review: have your employee make slashing motions towards his neck behind a closed door ten minutes before the store is actually closed (or hit last call) as we wait anxiously at the curb. Sooo...you don't want our business then? Go to another larger, cheaper store on Iowa or downtown, don't waste your time (or money) with these bozos. read more

I recognize that private businesses have the authority to enforce the current mandatory order to wear masks. However their no exception policy was shocking. I presented my card explaining that due to my health, I cannot wear a mask and was told, "That will do you no good here. Goodby". Do the owners of Alvin's Wines & Spirits have ANY idea of what it is like to have a life threatening attack -- or that wearing a mask can potentially lead to an attack -- or not to be given any consideration in the way of me explaining how fear of an attack can be so debilitating that an attack can be induced? What do they not understand about "I cannot breath"? FYI, I have been a loyal customer at Alvin's for over 20 years. I believe I am recognized by both owners and most of their staff. I certainly recognize them. It is with heartfelt hope that this small, local business can continue; however, it will not be with me as a customer. read more

I got tired of going in there and no one saying welcome or hello. They are stuck in their chairs behind the counter on their phones! Lack of knowledge about wine or liquor, and point where to find things. Trashy clothing and more concerned about talking to other employees when checking out and NO "thank you" at the end of transaction. I will not give them anymore of my money. The guys at Alvins were very helpful and knowledgeable about all things liquor. I inquired about a special beer from Belgium called Delirium they didn't have it in stock but they took the time to look it up and order it for me. It was great customer service they now keep the beer in stock. When I'm in Lawrence, Kansas I know exactly where to go to get excellent customer service and unique products that are not easily found at other stores. read more

There are plenty of other liquor stores in this town, not to mention the grocery store next door sells beer. I'll give to $100 to anyone that can provide evidence of getting a "hello" when you walk into this place. For a college town, they have less beer inventory than the grocery store next door. Also, I can't get a 6 pack of Stone's IPA, so if craft beer is your jam, don't bother. The lagunitas I opted for was eaily 200+ days after the bottle date, so monitoring their inventory isn't a priority. That is cool since watching their mini TV is far more important than greeting customers, freshening up the offering, or crushing a chipolte burrito on the counter while ringing me up....disgusting. Oh..$200 to anyone that gets a "thank you" or even a head nod at check out too! But seriously..this is a place to just drive right on by. No convenience is worthy of stopping here. read more

The guy who was working there tonight is a huge jerk. I went in to buy some wine and beer since my friend is putting me up for the night and happened to be there around closing time. A simple "I'm sorry we are closed now." Would have been better than the extremely rude push out the door that I received. If I'm ever back in town I will never go back to this business. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would do that but instead i have to give 1. The owner is extremely RUDE! A nice young man thought the Internet was down and kept running my card and charged me 5 times. He said the owner would take care of it the next day and I gave him my name and number. I call the next day and the owner was beyond rude and for absolutely no reason. He refused to issue a refund so I will be disputing it with my bank. Will never go back to again. Suggest never going here to anyone. Ever. read more

The worst customer service I've ever experienced. Cashiers talking to each other while they ring you up, don't say thank you. One time a cashier was wearing headphones. Another time a cashier was eating Chipotle and belched as I walked up. I could smell his belch. I live across the street and still avoid this place like the plague. read more

I have never seen worse customer service and rude and unhelpful staff at any other store in my life. I asked the long haired clerk at the counter if they have any cold 30 pack Miller Lite and he said it's in the cooler. I said I didn't see it and he just rolled his eyes at me, walked over to the cooler and kicked it with his foot to show me the beer was on the bottom and walked away. I am a 59 year old woman with hip issues, but I guess it was up to me to load my own beer in the cart, which I did. After I paid, the guy leered at me out the window of the store as I was leaving and I got no help loading my car either. I came home, told my husband, who was furious and went to take the beer back. When he got there he asked "who was rude to my wife" and the guy said "she was a F#^&ng B&tch". Needless to say, we will not be shopping there anymore and my husband is not allowed back in the store after his reaction to the clerk calling me nasty names. I really don't understand why they treat people so badly there. read more
