When it came time to practice skiing, I was struggling to move, and he left me to figure it out. When I got to the area he was at with the rest of the group, I asked him to catch me up, and he said just to watch the others. Even after practicing and watching him help others, he still would not help me. I sat to the side, frustrated, and he never checked on me once. I was able to get a refund from the school. The reason I give 3 stars is that this school has very kind instructors who helped me when my fiancé was teaching me. It was not a one-off experience because my friend, who was in the ski lessons with me, was also told to just learn by watching others. If we are paying $150, our instructor should be more hands-on. I saw he was being monitored after my complaint, but he still treated the students the same.

There was one instructor and one volunteer with my son during every lesson. He had about 5 lessons this past season with 3 different instructors and they were all amazing. My son loves music and everyone of them either had music playing the whole time or would sing as they went down the hill. I was in Breck for a work trip and had the option to choose one of several activities, and I picked…read morethe snowcat ride because I had never been on one before and wanted to try something new. Our group ran a little late and I ended up being the only person who showed up, and the staff could not have been more patient or accommodating about it. I was fortunate enough to get what essentially felt like a private ride, which made the whole experience feel very personal. They give you a walkie talkie so they can share updates and explain what you're looking at along the way, which I really appreciated because it made the ride feel intentional and educational rather than just scenic transportation. The snowcat itself is super comfortable and cozy. There are seat belts, thick blankets in the seating area, and the heat kicks on so you are warm the whole time. The cabin has large glass panels on all sides, so you can see the forest, the mountains, and the groomed trails without being exposed to the cold. The ride is very gentle and smooth, and they move at a reasonable pace while being thoughtful about cross country skiers on the trail, stopping when needed to let people pass. I found myself completely mesmerized watching the grooming attachment in front reshape the snow and lay down those perfectly clean parallel ski tracks. We stopped at a historic cabin that had been relocated and rebuilt years ago, and it was cozy inside with a guest book and bits of history to read. I ended up wanting to get back into the snowcat fairly quickly because it was so warm and comfortable in there, and the views from inside were amazing. It was quiet, beautiful, and surprisingly peaceful, and I came away with some great photos on my film camera and a super memorable first snowcat experience.

The Barn is Woodward Copper's indoor terrain park/skate park practice facility -- great for…read moresnowboarders, skiers, and skateboarders. 3 of us did all-day snowboard terrain park lessons at Woodward. It was super fun. My instructors were Cro, Angie, and Ronnie. They were great! The first half of the day was spent practicing indoors at The Barn, then we ate lunch, and the afternoon was spent on the slopes practicing in the terrain parks. Day 1 we had a group of 6 students with 2 instructors. Day 2 we had 4 students with 1 instructor. If you're considering terrain park lessons for skiing/snowboarding, to get the biggest bang for your buck I'd recommend waiting until you can go on blue runs. If you have particular tricks that you want to work on, even better -- for example, if you really want to nail that 360 or do a particular grab. We saw a group of snowboarders who clearly weren't that experienced (probably couldn't even do green runs), and they spent most of their time falling down during the parkboard session. On the other hand, a couple of my classmates had particular tricks they wanted to learn, and the instructor was able to coach them and help them reach their goals. Occasionally there are specials (check their Facebook page) for discounted lessons and passes. Woodward also does summer camps, winter camps, 2-hour drop-in sessions, private lessons, and more.
