We have used Alterations by Sarah for 10-12 years. Prices kept rising and workmanship kept declining. After today, we will not return. Two weeks ago we had a straight hem placed in a king size thin quilt type comforter. Cost was $48 and some change. It seemed high for a straight hem but we went ahead with the work. Went to have the same thing done on another comforter exactly like the first one just a different color and was told the "boss" wasn't there but they would call with a price. No call for two days. We called on day 3 and were told "boss" had an appointment and they would call. That call did happen and we were quoted $70 for the exact same work. The world is full of scams and con artists. Needed 2 pairs of pants hemmed. Signs are everywhere that read "pants hemmed while you wait". I was quoted over a week for them to be done. When I mentioned the signs, they charged me a 'rush order fee' and still took two days. Ridiculous. read more

My husband needed the zipper replaced on his jacket. I had never been to a place that does alterations, so I really wasn't sure of where to go or what to expect. Sarah's was recommended by my colleagues, so I brought the jacket here for an estimate. It is leather, so I was prepared to shell out some $$ to get it fixed. Sarah's went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. She forewarned me that replacing a zipper on a leather jacket would be a bit more than a typical zipper replacement just because of the tools/equipment that would be involved in the process. BUT she had an alternative idea that she wanted to try, AND IT WORKED!! I ended up getting exactly what I needed for only $15.00. I'm so happy with this place that I want to recommend them to everyone! read more

Seriously, how do people live without well-tailored clothes? clothes don't generally fit most people perfectly right off the rack, so why not get them altered to fit you and you alone? Personally, I have to get almost every pair of nice pants hemmed because they make them so long it's not practical to wear them, and cuffs.....ugh. Alterations by Sarah has several locations around town, and the one at 21st and Rock (next to Dillon's) is the closest to me, so I took a bunch of new stuff there to get it "fixed" for me. I took in four pairs of pants and two skirts. When I got there, both fitting rooms were occupied, so I had to wait a couple of minutes, but even so, once I started getting my stuff properly fit, it took very little time to get everything marked and ready for the tailor. If you're getting pants hemmed, they'll have you put them on and then just mark the length on one leg with a pin, it takes less than a minute. The same for skirts. They also will take garments in at the waist and anywhere else to ensure a good fit, which is especially helpful if you lose weight and don't want to buy totally new clothes. They can turn pants into shorts too, as I saw another customer had done, and if you already know your preferred measurements, you don't even have to try your clothes on first. I also learned today that they do purse and other repairs, which I will have to write about later, but I think it's a great service! This location also does dry cleaning. Everything is affordable, and it's a great investment in your wardrobe. The place is clean and small, and it has the feel of a family owned business, which..it is. It's a great local business that's serviced this city for over 25 years. They do outstanding work, and I think everyone should invest in well-tailored outfits. Make Wichita look good! read more

Tailor shops seem to be another one of those categories where people mostly only review when they feel they've been burned, so let me be one to say that my experience was reasonably good. Brooks Brothers has a pretty loose definition of "slim fit," so I needed to get seven shirts taken in quite a bit. Dropped them off on Saturday, they were ready the next Friday, and from what I've tried on, I like what I've seen. The shirts look pretty good, too. It was around $95 for seven shirts, which seems a little expensive, but I don't get things tailored very much, so I don't know. I'm probably not going to find clothes that fit anywhere else, and I wasn't just going to throw the shirts away, so it's something I'll just have to live with. In any case, the folks were nice and combined with the service, I'd use them again. read more

Brought in my Army Service Uniform Coat to have four patches sewn on (Rank x2, Service Stripes and Combat Services Bars). I knew I wasn't going to be the one picking it up, so I asked to pay in advanced. They charged me $15, which I believed was reasonable. This was on Saturday. Monday morning, I get a phone call saying it would be an extra $15 for the Service Stripes and Combat Services Bars. I found this cost to be an excessive, but agreed to it since I was in a bind and needed my coat for a DA Photo. Later in the day, they called me again and said it would actually be $15 for the stripes and $15 for the bars - $30 total. They also said it was an extra $15 for my ranks - meaning $15 per patch ($60 total). I told them this was an outrageous charge and I would in no way being paying them and for them to just leave it alone. I had someone pick up my coat that day and I took it to another shop who did the work for $10. The other shop did a great job. I have been places across the country with the military and have NEVER had anyone try to price gauge me on uniform needs. Completely disrespectful on the phone, trying to blame their lowest level employee and passing blame on me as well for "not understanding their prices". I have an itemized receipt for when I originally dropped it off, it says $15 for 4 patches TOTAL. I will never give them my business and I am forwarding on the message to all my military friends that they should take their business elsewhere. This includes using the AAFES tailoring shop, which outsources to this unprofessional organization. read more

I was sent here by a friend and they totally saved my dress! One of the seams in the front popped and I almost cried, it was a name brand dress. You'd never know it happened and the prices are so cheep. I send everyone here just took my boyfriend's pants in last week to fix a dropped hem on cuff. Wonderful service! read more

The sign on the window says "Pants hemmed while 'u' wait," but I couldn't pick mine up until a week later. My jeans came back with the button broken, so I can't wear them. When I brought it up to the woman she said they never even touched the button. I can't sew...hence why I took my jeans to get hemmed; but I'm not paying $8.50 to get the problem fixed. read more

This place is a total scam! I came in for alterations, waned to pay up front but they said they don't know how much it is until they are done with it (scam!). When I showed up later that day to pick up my dress, I wanted to pay with the $20 groupon but they didnt want to take it because I didn't show the groupon when I dropped off (there's nothing in the groupon restrictions for that, and in my defense, there was no total $ given to me when i dropped off the dress!!) I tried to argue and they gave me 100 reasons why they couldn't accept groupon! Please do not issue any groupons if you dont want to honor it. This place is a total scam and I will never come back! I ended up paying $30 just to take an inch off my dress. What a ripped off read more

Staff was very rude. I made it to the store at 5:58PM only to find the door locked and the person inside unwilling to let me in. She kept indicating they were closed, even though they were not supposed to close until six. She was not helpful, was not following the stores' own rules, and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The message I received was that it was more important for her to close two minutes early so that she could leave early rather than to make sure I was happy. My message to the store: customers have the power! I will not be giving you anymore of my business. I have also now posted this, which will surely cause you to lose business. Bottom line: Your employee closed two minutes early, which not only cost you money for the time she was supposed to be working, but it also cost you a customer (or two). read more

This place is amazing! The customer service is wonderful. The staff is so sweet. People writing bad reviews are crazy. They were probably some terrible customers who explained something wrong and blamed the experts. This place is wonderful. It nag seem pricey to people who don't get their things altered often, but the prices are great considering how hard and time consuming alterations is. If you have a last minute thing and need something fixed, talk to them about it and you can get it done ASAP. This place is amazing! It's clean, friendly, and has a wonderful environment. I bought a pair of very expensive jeans (Miss Me) and they were about 4 inches too long, so I wanted to take them to a professional alterations place to get them hemmed right. I had seen Alterations by Sarah around town, and I wish I would've read some reviews on them before taking my jeans there. I went to the Tallgrass location, and the lady at the front desk had me try them on and pinned only one leg. I specifically asked her if she needed to pin the other leg, and she said no. She was not friendly or helpful. When I went to pick them up, lo and behold, the leg she didn't pin was noticeably shorter, by about 1 cm (I measured at home). On top of that, both legs of the jeans were too short. I took them back to the store and told a different front desk lady, who was much friendlier, that the jeans were now too short and could they be fixed? She said they might have to add more fabric to the bottom, but the seamstresses weren't in that day, and they would call me the following Monday to see what could be done. I really didn't want fabric added to the bottom - they were originally 4 inches too long, and now I was needing fabric added back!?! Ridiculous. Instead of getting a call on Monday about what they were going to do, I received a call on Tuesday saying my jeans were done. I went to pick them up, and they had indeed added more fabric to the bottom, making it look like the jeans have two hems. Because they are a very dark wash, it's not extremely noticeable, but I'm still not happy. They were very expensive, and now they don't look the way I wanted them to. When I tried them on the second time at the store, it was the same rude front desk lady. I told her that I was told I'd get a call before they added fabric and I wasn't sure I was okay with how they looked. Her response, a rude "Just try them on." I tried them on, and the length was now fine - but I had paid $16 on top of what I paid for the jeans to get a crappy hem job and horrible customer service. I'm not a happy customer, and I will not be going back to Alterations by Sarah. read more

I must agree with Jake as I received similar service at this same location. Customer Service is TERRIBLE, I cannot speak for the quality of work because the simple tailoring I gave them could easily be done by amateurs. I literally give my Groupon away to the customer that was waiting awkwardly to to hemmed while they took their sweet time refusing my coupon. Their reason - the small sign on the wall saying coupons must be presented at the time of drop off. When I asked for their reasoning on this they were not able to give me an answer. When I asked to see their manager whom they blamed for this rule he was "not available". I will never return to this location Groupon or not. read more

I brought three suits to be altered and I had some challenges. To start on a positive note, I did need a suit jack which was a 40 short to be turned into a 40 regular and they did that very well! However I had trouble with the pants and I have had to bring them back now for the 3rd time. First time they did not take in the waist and the hem was too long. (in fact the chalk lines were still on the paints). The second time the hem was the right length but the tread was too tight and you could see the hem sewing line. They took them back to fix. So I have had to wait now for two weeks for the suits to be ready. I hope the next time I pick up the paints I am done. read more

I needed my suit adjusted for a funeral (gained some weight) after spending 30 to 40 on the phone trying to find a place who could handle my request to Alterations by Sarah came through for me. I dropped off the Suit at 9:00 AM they had the suit ready for me 11:30. When I mentioned I am running late since I was on the north side of town, they made it convenient for me by asking me to pick my suit at the 21st & North Rock store by Dillon's. Their delivery person met me in 15 minutes with the suit at the location. Excellent customer service and work on the suit. I used their changing rooms and made it to the funeral on time. I lost a lot of weight and wanted to see if I could get my favorite skirts and dress pants altered for less than I could replace them. The young woman who helped me had me try on the garments, pinned them where I wanted them and asked me about how I wanted them taken in. I picked them up a week later and they are perfect. Everything fits like a glove and you cannot tell they've been altered. I will be bringing the rest of my wardrobe in for the same treatment. read more

They ruined 4 of my dresses, to the tune of almost 900.00 plus the cost of alterations, this happened in august. It is now janurary, they gave me a check for 66% of the cost of the dresses stating that insurance would only cover that amount. I explained that that was their problem and that i needed to be reimbursed for the full amount plus the cost to alter them. Needless to say, no one will return my calls. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. Took in an $800 pageant dress for my daughter to have hemmed. A big project and very important that it was done correctly. We went to have it measured and marked. Very attentive during the initial meeting. We were very specific in what we requested but when my daughter went to try the dress on, it was 1/2 inch short. That may not sound like much to you, but in this case it was a very big deal. She told the lady that it was too short and the lady kept arguing with her that it was fine. I called the owner of the chain and arranged to have her meet me there at 5:30 today. When we arrived, the manager at the location said the owner wasn't coming and the dress was fine. My daughter tried it on again and showed her it was too short when she walked and the response was "don't walk". How do you not walk in a pageant dress. The owner never showed up. The manager would not admit the dress was too short. Would not admit the customer was right. Told my daughter to just go buy new shoes then charged me $177 for alterations. Called the location where the owner was at 5:59 and was told the owner was on her way. I told the person who answered the phone to have her call me. Still haven't heard from her. I guess they got my money so they don't really care about customer satisfaction. read more
