I was passed along by two different dry cleaners to this place plus checked out the reviews online. I called seven times on Monday and three times on Tuesday today. No machine no answer no nothing. I drove 20 minutes to the shop as per the recommendation of the dry cleaner that referred me. I was assured the turnaround on some alterations would be less than a week. Instead, there's simply nobody at the shop and a sign that says they can't do anything other than hems until March (three weeks from now) -- why not leave a message on a recording device to this effect? read more

I love alterations by Lisa. Since moving to Stuart from Houston, I needed a good seamstress and was referred to her by the cleaners I go to. Yes her prices can be a bit high compared to what I'm used to paying in a big city but it's a small town that's highly seasonal. Her work does justify her prices so I'm ok with it. I been coming to Alterations By Lisa for over 20 years. This is a family-owned business, and they do exceptional work. They are also very nice people. I've had everything from cocktail dresses altered, pants hemmed, blouses tailored for a better fit, and even curtains and pillows made, at much more reasonable prices than an interior decorator. I'm a detail-oriented person and very particular when it comes to the fit of clothing for your height, weight, and build, and Lisa and her team are skilled tailors and know what they are doing. I was thoroughly pleased with these people. I brought in 6 panels of drapes that I needed hemmed - and right away since we had no covering on our windows. They quoted me a fair price and said I could pick the drapes up by the end of the day. The drapes are perfect, the owner and her son are most delightful and I will bring all my sewing work to them! I'm really surprised about the remark about Johnny not taking COVID seriously. When I went there he wore a mask the entire time. He was very professional and followed all CDC guidelines. In fact as we were speaking he continued to spray down door handles and countertops with disinfectant and offered me hand sanitizer twice. He expressed his concerns about COVID and how difficult it was for him as a Chinese American to hear COVID-19 described as the China Virus. He professed his admiration for Dr. Fauci and Bill Gates and said he can't wait until the vaccine comes to town, he'll be the first in line to take it. I had a dress altered for my daughter's 8th grade school dance, and I was told the amount for the alterations would be $80 when I dropped the dress off. Then when I picked it up, the woman tried to charge me an extra $3 for for using a check. I would have paid cash had I been told in advance. It was only like $3 more, but it was the point, you can't tell someone a price and change it on them. Well I definitely wasn't happy and she and I got into an argument, which was crazy, I have never had anyone in any store act as crazy as she did. I know she wasn't the owner, but that was unbelievable!!!!! I wrote the check for the extra $3 but the owner finally came over and handed me the $3 back. I will never use that establishment again! I understand that with credit cards that there can be additional charges for using them, but I have never heard of that with a check. I don't like when businesses try to get the customers to pay "cash only", it makes me feel like they are trying to avoid paying taxes, not saying that happens here because they do take other methods of payment, but you are charged for them, which to me is just plain crazy!! I did report this to the better business bureau. read more
