Recommended by locals. "Bohemian" cuisine, everything that we tried was excellent. I wish I could bring this place home with me.

Friendly wait staff. I had a roasted pork (I was with a large group and that was our menu item)…read more The people I traveled with enjoyed the food. Some of us got various beers and most were happy. I had sparkling water (no ice cause it's Europe). It was tasty. The service was quick and the staff were friendly. I'd return as a singleton when I'm there next.

As well as many picnic tables for several hundred people outside ... plus indoor seating Typical well run, beloved-by-locals beer garden In fact, it feels like a regional park with so many trees and picnic tables well spaced out... warning = the German obsession for smoking before, during and after a meal is an issue with us Californians ... the fact that it's outdoors under a bunch of large trees, as well as with considerable light breeze capability, and well-spaced tables means you don't have to deal with your neighbors' vapung or smoking habit/addiction ... What also makes this a wonderful, friendly atmosphere is the fact that it is so family-friendly as are all beer gardens that we ever have experienced in Germany... The sauce was very fresh to my wife totally enjoyed it along with the chicken noodle dumplings ... note that this delicacies that *all* Germans go crazy for is usually only available during his growing season of May The ham that was the side dish (beilage) of the spargel course was delicious Parking is usually a challenge here, but if you persist, you might find a spot on the street around this huge restaurant

One day, when I get around to creating my toplist for Munich, this will be sitting right at the top…read morefor local cuisine. This place is one of the nicest, most affordable, and most delicious true Bavarian restaurants that Munich has to offer. As such, this is my go-to joint when I have out-of-town visitors. The decor here is absolutely fabulous. Polished wood and brass, seasonal decorations, and the compulsory Bavarian country flair imbue the restaurant with a mountain hunting lodge atmosphere, but without any of the controversial mounted deer head that could be off-putting whilst one is trying to eat. The tables are all well-sized, and the room arrangement lends itself to accommodating large groups as well as maintaining small, intimate gatherings. The menu is DE. LI. CIOUS. It's a cruel joke of nature that one's stomach can only fit one, maximum two dinners in one sitting. I could eat the whole menu here. In fact, I'm slowly working my way through it. While vegetarians will have it tough here, the Käsespätzle is one fine example of veg-friendly foods being done better at the Jagschlössl than anywhere else in Munich. For the standard meat-eater, this is your Bavarian cuisine heaven. For beginners, I recommend the Schweinshaxen. For more advanced, the Bergsteiger. I've always enjoyed ordering off the rotating daily menu as well. Desserts here need to be served with some sort of weaponry, because you'll spend as much time fending off invaders as eating your dessert. With respect to beer, this is a Hofbräu locale. Do enquire as to the seasonal brew. It's quite likely the latest incarnation of the Zwickl, which is an unfiltered golden goddess in a beer mug that I highly recommend. If you happen to be in Munich during the warm months while the Bayern are playing, this place sets up their lovely beer garden with a huge outdoor screen. Chances are that every bar in the city centre is jam packed, so why not enjoy the game comfortably over a Zwickl with delicious morsels of meat (or veg-friendly fare) under the towering chestnut trees? In sum, if you find yourself courting a Bavarian, take her/him here to charm them out of their Hosen. If you find yourself wondering where to take your out-of-town visitors to show off local culture, skip the Hofbräuhaus in the Altstadt and take them instead on the short tram ride to one of Munich's greenest neighbourhoods to eat here. And if you're a vegetarian who is tired of eating bland Käsespätzle, make the journey to the Jagschlössl for what I am sure must be the best Käsespätzle that Munich has to offer.
