On 9 JAN 2025, I reported in for a three-hour surgical procedure on my abdomen. I arrived at the 2nd floor of Bldg. 3 Surgical Center @ 06:30 and was promptly processed in and moved to my prep room. Nurses came in and went and I was finally greeted by my surgeon and the anesthesiologist. All described their part of the procedure and I was ready to go. The anesthesiologist returned and injected what he called "Tequila" into my IV (his name for a relaxing agent..which was wonderful), and then proceeded to wheel me down into the OR. After applying the gas mask to my face, it was "lights out"...and the next thing I remembered was waking up in my 4th-floor recovery room...with my wife by my side and Sandy (RN) and Danielle (PCT) taking care of me right after the surgery. Since I felt great I ordered brunch off the menu (my wife called it in), and enjoyed a lovely omelet, juice, and coffee. The food was delicious (as I enjoyed brunch and dinner on the 9th and breakfast on the 10th), and all the items were ordered off a nice menu with a simple phone call. For the next 24 hours, I was taken care of by a wonderful staff including Xiew Hua (RN), Amber (RN), Brian (PCT), and other RN's and PCTs (Nurse Assistants,) until I was discharged on the 10th. My room was perfectly warm, the TV (and well over two dozen channels) was excellent, and the care was top-tier. I was up walking around in the afternoon and felt great. One of the best parts of the stay was a juice dispensing center just down the hall that allowed me to grab some fresh grape or cranberry juice any time I wanted. It tasted great and really hit the spot! This was my first ever surgical procedure that required an overnight stay (OK, so getting my wisdom teeth out in the Army in 1980 didn't count), so I wasn't sure what to expect. Regardless, it was an excellent experience, and the doctors and staff on the 2nd-floor surgical center and 4th-floor recovery were awesome. Five Stars. read more

This experience happened over a month ago and I have reflected and still felt the need to post : My mother, who has stage 4 cancer, was admitted to Alta View after we left another emergency department due to excessive wait times. The initial intake experience at Alta View was positive -- the staff member who checked us in was kind, efficient, and compassionate. Unfortunately, the level of care declined significantly after admission. While my mother was not physically harmed, there were repeated instances where she was made to feel like a burden rather than a patient deserving dignity and support. During the day, family members were present to advocate for her. At night, when we relied on staff, her emotional and basic care needs were often overlooked. To be fair, there were some nurses who provided excellent care, which suggests this is not an issue of individual staff capability, but rather a systemic problem related to management, communication, and hospital policies. A particularly concerning experience involved the attending physician, whose bedside manner was lacking and, at times, inappropriate. He attributed my mother's denial for transfer to a nursing facility to her refusal of two therapy sessions during a two-week stay. This explanation failed to consider the context: she had acute gastrointestinal symptoms and had often just completed one therapy session when another provider arrived, indicating poor coordination between care teams. We also requested emotional support resources for my mother, who lost her husband less than a year ago and is coping with advanced cancer. The response was limited to a paper being dropped off in her room, with no meaningful follow-up or connection to services. Obtaining assistance with Medicaid application required repeated requests. It was only after I personally escalated the issue to a charge nurse -- who then persistently followed up -- that any action was taken. Operational issues also impacted care. The cafeteria closes at 8 PM, leaving patients who miss ordering time with limited and unsuitable food options, particularly problematic for those with nausea or digestive conditions. The discharge process was confusing and poorly communicated. We were initially told to prepare to leave without adequate planning for a safe placement. It was only after I questioned whether discharge could be enforced that we learned we could remain until appropriate arrangements were made. Discharge paperwork was delivered without discussion, and we had to proactively confirm whether it was safe to leave. Finally, during discharge transport, it was discovered that my mother's port had not been de-accessed. This resulted in a prolonged and distressing situation where staff appeared uncertain about proper procedure, causing unnecessary discomfort. This experience took place during an already extremely difficult period for our family. Hospitals play a critical role not only in clinical treatment but in preserving patient dignity, especially for those facing life-limiting illness. While there were individual staff members who showed genuine care, the overall experience reflected significant breakdowns in communication, coordination, and patient-centered support. I am sharing this in hopes that leadership will address these systemic issues so that other families navigating serious illness are not left feeling they must constantly advocate for basic standards of care. read more

I was over charged by 40% of the National average. The bill of this visit to the ER. The bill was $ 8 000 for 3hrs in the ER. It was out of network for my insurance . I tried to work with Alta View about working with me assessing and or-adjusting payments . Never returned calls. I was on hold truly for hours trying to connect and address the ability to address my concerns. Never spoke with a human, then I got a bill from collections. I paid it immediately, in full,the balance is paid off . It was the entire amount due however I am 100% sure that I was way over charged . No one on staff ever called me back to assess . read more

We had the best experience with Dr David Hallowell. His bed side manner was amazing and they way he talked and treated my dad with so much care and respect it was astonishing. Sad to say, weve changed our opinion about this hospital. They were VERY understaffed when my spouse was in this hospital for a few days. 1. The Dr did not communicate the planned care until the next day even though they started the day before. This was very frustrating. My spouse was very miserable and didn't know how he was being treated. 2. The nurse, the day my spouse was going home, was incredibly rude. My spouse kept getting told they would come and help with a shower. We had not requested a shower all week as my spousr had been too weak. Hours went by. I had to try and chase someone down about every hour as no one came. The nurse that was going to got angry and said they were understaffed and wouldn't be able to help with a shower. I said we had waited for several hours. She said again they were understaffed. That really wasn't our problem. When I didn't except that fact, she told me she would call Security. That's how caring this hospital is!! read more

I have always gone to Alta View for years. I have always paid for insurance. Even when I fell ill, I still paid out of pocket for health insurance. I paid out of pocket for my premiums and co-pay for Dr appts and prescriptions. When 2025 came and I had to file bankruptcy and lose everything I owned I couldn't pay the premiums anymore. I had to go on Medicaid. People talk about horror stories about people on Medicaid and how they are treated. I paid for my insurance until Sept 30 of 2025. I had to go on Medicaid. I have witnesses that saw how well I was treated on insurance. I was taken to a nice room with tv and lots of comfort. Always had a nurse come in, put iv in and make me feel comfortable. Nov 8, 2025. I had to go to the ER for my knee. I had dislocated my kneecap and put it back in on the 7th. I had gone to see my doctor for my shoulder issues. I have many health issues. RA, Lupus, diabetes, NASH, osteoarthritis in my spine, and tumors on my adrenal glands, plus kidney issues. I went to my dr Friday, but my knee wasn't bothering me. I figured it was fine, normal issues. I woke up on the 8th and couldn't walk on it very well. I him hawed about going to the ER. But I decided to go. I didn't want to bother anyone to take me, so I just took Lyft. I lost my car when I fell ill. It cost me almost 40.00 to the ER and back. I got to the ER and yes, they were busy. I waited on the waiting room for about an hour. I am on oxygen. Now when I was on insurance, they always brought me 1 of their tanks so I wouldn't waste mine. But they didn't this time. I was not taken care of like I always have been. I started noticing the doors. They took 2 people from one door then the others from another door. I thought it was odd. It was my turn. I went through the odd door. I was put basically in a closet, I was shocked. Left in a wheelchair. There was a comfier chair in there and no help was offered to get me to the better chair. I was told I wouldn't be more comfortable there. I waited in a wheelchair, no nurse came to check my vitals, no IV was put in my arm for pain meds for comfort, no nothing. I didn't even see a nurse. I saw a doctor come in and i told him what happened and wanted to make sure all was ok with my knee. He said he would x-ray my knee. I actually thought my situation was comical, so I introduced myself as a person in a closet. I truly was put in a closet and left in a wheelchair for the duration of my visit. When he said x-ray, I thought why x-ray that won't show you tendons or anything just bones I didn't break a bone. I didn't put panties on because it was too painful. I was taken to the x-ray room and put in different positions on a bed and one position showing my hoo-ha. I felt horribly embarrassed to be there at this point. I was treated like trash. I grew up in a well-off house. Worked very good jobs, always paid for my own insurance to never have to live on the government. I am crying while writing this. Because I felt so judged. And then I was taken back to my closet. She helped me in the comfy chair and hooked up my blood pressure cuff and o2 monitor. My blood pressure cuff malfunctioned and beeped for 10 minutes, and no one came to check on me. I took it off and my monitor off and no one checked on me. The dr came and said nothing was broken and the patella looked fine. Still not being able to walk I was discharged. I am a person of pride. I am a woman that is very independent and intelligent and proud. Last night I was humiliated, a treated like trash. Yes everyone, the nightmares are true. If I could afford to pay for my insurance and stuff I would just to not be treated like this again. I will never go back to Alta View again. read more

The hospital has, however, decided it was not even though my symptoms were EXACTLY what an adverse reaction to macrobid looks like. They didn't even bother to address the urine culture that wasn't sent out, the broken equipment in my room or the false test results at the instacare. Update: after "thorough review" that took a shocking 1 week, the hospital decided they did nothing wrong. My symptoms were 100% in line with an adverse reaction to macrobid. The hospital has, however, decided it was not even though my symptoms were EXACTLY what an adverse reaction to macrobid looks like. They didn't even bother to address the urine culture that wasn't sent out, the broken equipment in my room or the false test results at the instacare. I came in to the ER unconscious. Not even waking to a sternal rub. My symptoms were scary and dangerous, and the ER found no answers. People don't just lose consciousness for no reason. The only new thing to enter my body that day was an antibiotic medication, Macrobid. A quick google search reveals that a rare but life threatening reaction to Macrobid is fainting, losing consciousness, and being unable to wake. This is exactly what happened to me. How did the doctors not pick up on that? I later confirmed it was the Macrobid when I took the medication again the next morning after being told in the ER that there's no way my loss of consciousness was caused by the Macrobid. Guess what happened? I fainted again at home multiple times that day. We didn't bother going to the ER this time because every time I've gone to an Intermountain ER, we've left with no answers and a gigantic bill. They can never seem to pinpoint what's wrong. I haven't taken the Macrobid since the second set of fainting spells, and guess what? I haven't fainted since. Weird how that all worked out. I was taking the Macrobid for a UTI that did not respond to Cipro. WBCs and RBCs were present in my urine at the ER visit. The ER doctor told me they were sending it for a culture, but it would take a few days to come back. I still hadn't seen any results by yesterday, so I called the ER. Turns out they never even sent my UA for a culture. I had been desperately refreshing my patient portal like a fool looking for results that were never going to come. The nurse I spoke with on the phone said they didn't send it for a culture because "it was contaminated with epithelial cells". I'm a nurse too. You cannot medically gaslight me. A true clean catch is incredibly hard to get on a woman because of our anatomy, and epithelial cells in a urine sample is not a good enough reason to throw out the infected urine rather than sending it for a culture. If there truly was concern about the epithelial cells in my sample, enough concern to render the UA unusable, I should have been straight cathed to get a cleaner sample. Also, the thermometer in my room was broken. I'd bet that if you checked the charts of everyone who has been seen in that room lately and had their temp taken with that thermometer, you'd find they all have alarmingly low body temperatures. Like I said before, I'm a nurse. I know how these facilities work. When something breaks, like a thermometer, the company drags its feet fixing it because, let's face it, patient care is actually one of the last priorities for IHC. I know managment claims patient care is the first priority, but IHC's newish management team has sent a very clear message to everyone (patients, employees, random people on the street) over the last few years: money first. The thermometer in my room said my temp was 96.4. That is not a normal body temperature, and the doctor who took that temperature should have recognized that. I've never had a temp that low in my life. A temp that low should have triggered warnings in the charting system. Unless, of course, it was never charted. I've only seen body temps that low 1- in the elderly and 2- when the thermometer is broken. I felt feverish as I was getting ready to leave the hospital. The doctor took my temperature and told me I was fine. I went home and took my temp. Surprise, it actually was elevated. I had an active fever, and the ER didn't even bother sending my urine for a culture. The only abnormal test result are WBCs and RBCs in the urine. The only new thing that has entered the patient's body recently is an antibiotic. I was sent home empty handed with the promise of urine culture results that were never actually ordered and a recommendation to continue taking a medication that was causing me to lose consciousness, so, no, I would not recommend Alta View to a friend. read more

On 7/04/2024, while visiting from California, I fell and broke my arm! I couldn't believe how quickly but throughly and professionally I was treated. Dr. Smith was great, and ER Nurse Colter gets a gold star. He is a shining example of a nurse. Kind and empathetic. They got busy, but he made sure to keep us updated us along the way! He really went out of his way to explain the next steps and provide us with everything we would need for our California doctor. We really are appreciative of this amazing facility and its outstanding staff. read more

they are terrible! arrived on time but every time we came to the office for our check up they always told us that we were late when we got an email saying that we were on time. they told us at the front desk that they prioritize phone calls more than in person. made no sense. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. 3 times this happened and we even showed them the emails that we have gotten from them and all they said was "there must be something wrong" wouldn't recommend to anyone! read more

Went in for a simple blood test. TWO hours later I was done. Took the elevator up only to find a room full of people waiting to get checked in. Some of these people were very sick and had to wait that long to see the lab???? They had one person checking people in who said she wasn't even supposed to be there but filled in. This process needs 2 or 3 people. This was totally unacceptable to wait over two hours for a blood test. Once I got to the lab it took 10 minutes yet 2 hours to get checked in (UNBELIEVABLE) read more

I decided to come to this hospital (which I never even heard of considering I was born and raised here) for the first time after breaking my right foot that I thought was getting infected. I told the doctor I had an appointment with the specialist this week and prior that I was in severe pain. They did nothing for my pain and didn't even do proper lab tests, they just wrote a prescription for antibiotics so I ended up wasting my time here and going to South Jordan's U of U ER and they took proper care of me and treated me for my pain and did proper tests that confirmed I didn't have an infection. My husband was admitted at the ER on June 21. Kalani was our ER nurse, and she was so wonderful! She was so upbeat and attentive, making sure that he had everything that he needed, especially since he was needing to be transferred to LDS Cardiac ICU. Please let her know that she is just amazing! My dad has spent the last two days in this hospital, struggling. He got discharged yesterday, and all seems to be fine. Just want to say this is some of the most diligent and kind staff. I came by to visit and drop off some food for my dad and mom, and the nurses came in twice, were incredibly polite and thorough. First nurse came in to deliver some medication, told him what everything was, and what symptoms to expect. Really appreciated that as it just helped ease him, and let him know what to expect. Second nurse came by just to see how he was reacting to the meds, and see if he needed help moving in case he was tired. These people were so kind and thorough. They kept up a great positive attitude, were kind and just pleasant. Can't say enough nice things. Was really impressed by how attentive and energetic they were, especially since this winter season has been so brutal. Hoping the best for everyone working there. read more

Please, I'm begging you, do not go to this hospital for any type of mental crisis. My daughter walked into the E. R. Out of control, obviously not in her right mind. After three hours, she spoke with a social worker via Internet, who concluded she needed to be admitted. We waited and waited for her to be transferred to a psych unit. (no meds ever given) After another 6 hours , daughter's anxiety built up and she couldn't bear to wait any longer. They let her walk out hospital doors. !!! Horrible experience !!!! read more

I got my Covid test done here outside by one of the nurses and I didn't have to wait long at all. I have had the test done twice and Alta hospital did a really good job, everyone was friendly and I was in and out of there really quick. Just make sure you do an order for the Covid test first by calling ahead! read more

Emergency Department runs smoothly for the most part. Front check in staff is often polite and kind. In 6 months we've been in for myself and husband with food poisoning, but there are several physicians there that are check in check out types who could care less about you, your circumstances, reviewing your chart, making sure they know your allergies etc. Recently was in for a rare epliploic appendigitis situation (4-19-24)which is very painful and the doctor Peducini was more concerned with his omelet from the cafeteria than paying attention to my care. He never even examined me, just walked in said tests were scheduled and then at the end walked back in with paperwork and discharge and whatever scripted robotic (I won't see you again so I don't care) "see ya, hope it works out". He advised me to take NSAIDs which I'm allergic too, could have cared less about anything going on with me. I agreed to let the nurse (who was very nice btw and doing her best) to place and IV, but they decided to treat me like I was a patient/student/education on ultrasound IV insertion overseen by a paramedic and the head nurse Kurt (who is wonderful as well) but once she began struggling, the head nurse should have stepped in and handled my IV! It was a lot of in and out and up and down and despite my patience, it wasn't pleasant or helpful! Sometimes you just have to be efficient and get it done and not play games with people who are in pain and needing care. I wasn't some flu patient or fracture patient, I was in a difficult situation. I can trust Alta View for the most part, but man, ED physicians are in the wrong area if they're not fully invested in critical care patients! It's a 50/50 experience at Alta View ER! Sometimes you get really great service and care and other times you're treated like a number. It's hard to speak up in the middle of your care because you're afraid the care will get worse or be more limited so patients often just deal with how it comes! Intermountain needs to have a come to Jesus with some of their employees on how to treat individuals who are at their very worst moments, but seem ok because they are polite and understanding! Next time I won't be! I hate leaving reviews like this because emergency/medical and nursing is a tough job, but so is being a patient sometimes! read more

My husband was admitted to Emergency recently after vomiting up blood. He was taken in promptly, made comfortable. Within a reasonable amount of time he was tested and diagnosed and treatment begun. All personnel were friendly, kind and professional. His overnight stay was as pleasant as one could expect in a major hospital. They helped him on his way to recovery. I've had my own horrifying incident at Alta View Hospital, but stayed silent about it. However, a family member of mine has recently had an incident of their own that I won't stay silent about. My family member recently had an incident with a doctor at Alta View. They reported it to the hospital and the hospital issued an insincere apology but refused any further action. Without giving too many personal details about my family member. I will say, this "doctor" inappropriately touched and assaulted my family member. I hope this hospital will take accountability and further investigate this doctor for the safety of current and future patients! read more

I haven't been here for years, but my internist just relocated to their new clinic last week so I also scheduled my mammogram here. Both times parking was difficult because of construction and limited spots. They should have multi-level parking garages!! Even though I called for directions to the new clinic, I was misinformed. My opinion of the medical community is very similar to the fire department. I am super glad that we have the fire department, but also do not plan to use them for every single issue that I may have at my home. In the event of a small fire on the stove, I can put it out myself, otherwise the fire department shows up and all they know and want to do is pull out the big hoses and axes and go to work on your home. Again, there is a time and a place for the fire department (and I am super glad to have them), but they certainly are not needed at all times. I feel this parallel is needed, because I feel the same way about the current business of sick care in America. The modifications and new buildings of Alta View were needed a LONG time ago, and it is nice to have the hospital join the 21st century. However, the remodel is very cold, very stale, and really makes you feel like a cattle going in with the rest of the herd for treatment. This starts at the large communal check in, and then down a long hall to a mother waiting area, and then finally into see the doctor. They come in through a side portal and meet their standard 3-5 minutes and are off. Very impersonal, very cold. Further, this hospital seems much more interested in your money than your care. They would rather take all the time in the world to confirm your mode of payment and scan in every little thing to you account for 8-15 minutes, and then barely look at you to answer questions. I am happy that a couple of their doctors are fighting against all this (that we go see) but for the most part everyone is just busy "doing their job" or telling you that it is "not their job". So sad to see and be part of the unraveling of the medical community which is now more about injections and pills than actual treatment, help and advice. read more

I had to be admitted while on vacation from another state for surgery. A tremendous shout-out to Cindy, Karma, Bunny, Taylor and all the other staff that took care of me while I was there. The anesthesiologist took my past reactions to surgery anesthetics seriously, so I woke up with zero problems. The hospital food is very good, and they allowed my husband to purchase a meal, as well. Just spent the night (10/20/2021) at the emergency room at Alta View Clinic in Sandy, UT, with my husband who has Alzheimer's. Every staff member we encountered directly was kind and helpful. However, right outside the ER room we were in was a group of medical staff members talking extremely loudly, laughing, etc., with no apparent understanding of the disrespectful disruption they were causing (actually, the very kind social worker said that she's heard the same concern from other patients/family members). So certainly I'm not the first one to find that behavior inappropriate. Two of them carried on together, watching videos on their phones, etc., and never moved for over an hour. Others participated as well. Someone was even meowing, seriously. Do they not have professional responsibilities and, if not, can they not conduct themselves in a compassionate manner for patients while taking up space at work? I actually wadded up a blanket along the bottom of the door to block out their obnoxious noise. Management, perhaps additional training is in order for these insensitive staff members who seem to think that they are in a bar instead of an ER. IHC should hold themselves to higher standards than this. To top things off, I told everyone I spoke to at the ER that I would be driving him to wherever he was placed for additional evaluation; I told multiple staff members. So now, about 40 hours after he first arrived, the social worker finally called and said that he had been sent to another facility by ambulance (which will be an additional several thousand dollars on top of the ER bill) even though he is 100% compliant without any physical symptoms and I HAD TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD DRIVE HIM THERE MYSELF TO MAKE IT LESS TRAUMATIC FOR HIM. How insensitive and incompetent can one staff be?? I'm enraged at this additional middle finger shown to my husband and myself by the ER staff. No need to respond with the exact same canned message that everyone else receives who has been disappointed in this ER. Please don't as it is insulting to not receive an authentic response. read more

I tried to call the number I was given by my doctor for an X-ray, called that number 3x to only receive a request, to input a "mailbox number"-3x!!! Then I tried to call the main hospital number to ask a question, I was disconnected. Called yet ANOTHER number, FINALLY (after 20 minutes!) got a human. And then there's the Granger Medical system that you NEVER get to speak with a human-go to the website and submit your questions and "we'll get back to you within 24-48 hours"! So, this is healthcare? This is pathetic. Now I understand why the rating is so bad. My question was if there is a discount for paying at the time of service, simple question and it took 20 minutes and multiple calls to find out-no, they do not apply a discount for paying at the time of service, FYI should anyone else need that information. And pack your patience, give yourself at least half an hour to get to speak with a HUMAN! read more

Yesterday my son woke up and was not good. I was frightened and called his physician and she advised me to take him to the emergency room. I recently experience severe abdominal pains. Since I've had kidney stones in the past I suspected those. I went to Alta View ER (which has had a poor reputation from people I've talked with) but hoped the newness and other changes would offer something better. When I arrived the first thing that came from the doctor was that I had back surgery four years ago. I wasn't sure why that was relevant but chalked it up to a touch point. I explained my pain and said "I thought" it could be a kidney stone. They performed the standard exam and a CT scan without contrast. They hooked me up to an IV and gave me something. Later I learned it was Tramadol. The physician came back after a bit and said, you show inflammation in your small intestine but no stones. You have no signs of an infection in your blood or urine but we think this could be an infection. I was feeling a little better but still in some pain and was sent home with the instructions that I should eat and drink as much as a I can. That was just before noon. Four hours later after eating and drinking what I could I was in excruciating pain. My abdomen was bloated/distended, I was nauseated, sweating and of course miserable. After vomiting, I was taken back to the ER by my wife, quickly admitted and a CT scan with contrast which revealed a bowel blockage of my small intestine. I'm not a physician but I would think that an inflamed bowel should have caused them to consider a blockage before sending me home with instructions to fill me up with food. An NG tube was inserted but that gave me no relief from the pain. Gratefully they had also given me Morphine and I received some relief, I met with a surgeon who said most (85%) of these blockages resolve in 24-48 hours so we'll monitor you. I was admitted to the hospital and had to wait. I have no complaints about the NG tube, despite it's misery. It's a necessary treatment. However once on the floor my pain medication was switched to dilauded. A day later I'm getting 50% pain relief from Tramadol and Dilauded accompanied by a blazing headache. When I mentioned this to the surgeon on his daily rounds he said "oh, that's one of the side effects of dilauded" so let's switch you to morphine. I said great and looked forward to some pain relief. At this point my stomach and small intestines, according to the surgeon have grown 3X. That afternoon, per protocol, I'm given my first dose of morphine, which doesn't give me much relief from the pain. A few hours later, per the medication schedule, I'm given my second dose but the nurse does not ask me if the first dose was effective. After she administers it I ask how much she gave me and she said 2 (the lower dose). I express that I wish she had asked me about it because it wasn't effective but we both new it was too late (as I'm told but I'm not sure it's true) that she can't give me 2 more (4 was the full dose). So I suffer for several more hours. Then there is a shift change. A new nurse comes on and I'm heightened to whatever she's going to give me. I ask and she says she is not going to give me any Dilauded or Morphine because they both cause headaches. I explain that is not what the surgeon told me and I have to fight to get her to give me the right meds. Because I disagreed with her she explains to me that I'm agitated and she's going to also give me some kind of sedative. I said, I'm not agitated in the psychological sense but I am upset because what she has said is different from what the doctor told me. This sort of negative interaction continued where nurses seemed irritated or defensive (probably overworked due to lack of staff). The next day I meet with the surgeon and I'm getting close to the 48 hour boundary. He says we're going to do laparoscopic surgery sometime that afternoon. At 11AM I'm taken to surgery and following the procedure told that I had a lesion blockage from a previous surgery done over 20 years ago (gallbladder removal). With it's removal recovery begins but at this point I had lost confidence in the hospital and some of the staff. So here is my rating summary: Surgeon 4-5 stars (but I have asked if they could have done an MRI and seen it was a lesion and performed surgery a day or so earlier to reduce damage to my stomach and bowels). Second Visit to the ER: 4-5 stars. First Visit to the ER 1 star...it seemed they were suspicious about something. I had that back surgery four years ago but haven't taken any pain pills since then. My time on the 4th (Med) Floor: 1 Star (I understand that people may be overworked because there is a nursing staffing shortage but patients still need proper care) but it's no excuse, in my book a reason for me to have to fight with a nurse who has chosen to ignore the doctors prescription. Had surgery yesterday, the experience went so smoothly, the nurses were so attentive, and made sure that I knew 100% what was going to happen with my surgery and what to expect, etc. Not everyone will have the perfect surgery, because every single person reacts different to surgery. Not everyone is going to like how their insurance works, these are the reasons I suspect some of the reviews reflect a bad experience. I would recommend this hospital 100% based on my experience. I was recommended to go to this facility by a friend, not knowing this was an Intermountain Healthcare facility. Almost all of my experiences in the past with most Intermountain facilities and services has been pretty awful, so imagine my surprise when we walked right into the ER, had zero wait time to get in, and I was processed into the ER in an incredibly timely manner. Not only that, but I was treated incredibly well too. One of my few complaints was the time I had to wait to get discharge, but this is a very minor complaint at best. I would rather wait a few hours to get discharged than get crappy treatment and discharged quickly. I went in thinking my stomach issues were about to become an emergency, thankfully this was not the case at all, and the entire staff was great at easing my mind on the matter. The only other issue I can think of right now is that Alta View is under construction for what seems to an enormous (and pretty awesome looking) expansion, and it also seems as though that they have relocated their ER temporarily. As a result, the hospital size is a bit constricted, and I can't give it my full recommendation as I can foresee other potential patients having issues with parking and wait time. Ending this review on the positive note, it seems to be that the stereotype that hospital cafeterias have filling but unsatisfying food. This is absolutely not the case. Me and my partner went to the cafeteria after our visit, and holy crap, I was incredibly impressed. I hope that all of my future visits to Intermountain facilities go as smooth as this. read more

I stayed in this hospital for 2 days after having orthoganthic surgery. I'm giving three starts because the stay was okay. It was A-Okay, but nothing amazing. I feel like I was mostly well cared for, but there were a few points that dropped the rating for me. First off, I have to say that most of my stay is a blur. I must have had a bad reaction to the anesthesia or something because I was extremely nauseated the whole time (I was on three different anti nausea medications). The anesthesiologist was very professional and had a good bedside manner. I felt like I was in pretty good hands there. The surgeon isn't one employed by Alta View, so I won't address him in this review. Pre-surgery was a lot of waiting, but I've heard that's pretty normal. I didn't have a lot of contact with the nursing staff at that time except to get checked in, but I felt like the did their job just fine and the experience was basically what I expected. After surgery, I remember hearing that I got put in the wrong room, but that they decided to keep me in there. I did get to recover in my own room, which was really nice. I was supposed to be there under 24 hours, so from what I'd read about other people's experience in this kind of surgery, I could have been put in a recovery room with others. Of course, I ended up being there two days, so perhaps my poor recovery state had something to do with it. From what I remember, the nursing staff was very kind and attentive. I remember that I was kind of out of it and delusional at some points, so major kudos to them for taking care of a crazy person like me! There was one point where I remember being upset because I was really nauseated and the time had passed for the nausea medication to be given (vomiting with my jaws fixed shut was definitely not something I was interested in). I had talked to someone, who might have been an aid, but not a nurse, about this. I also was feeling panicked and afraid about some other matters. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I remember that person leaving and then no one came to care for me and it wasn't until my husband came to visit and I could communicate with him the problem that anything seemed to get resolved. Another problem I had was that the food I was being given was juice, jello, and some kind of Italian ice product. Besides the fact that the only thing I possibly could have consumed through my syringe was the juice, nutritionally this was simply a disaster. In some pre-paperwork, I had requested broth, and when I was brought a bunch of liquid sugar I refused to consume (can't really say 'eat') it, and again requested broth, which I was finally given. This is highly concerning because I had mentioned in my pre-surgery forms that I don't react well to high sugar items, and also because really should a place of healing be giving liquid candy to someone who is recovering from major surgery? One would think that there would at least be an attempt to give something with a little nutritional value. On another note, my jaws were fixed shut. Consuming sugary products when I wouldn't get to brush behind my teeth for who knows how long seems like a horrible idea that would lead to some kind of breeding ground for massive cavities. So, in summary, I knocked a star for the food issue and a star for the problem I mentioned previously. I don't think anyone should feel like they're not being cared for adequately when they're already in such a vulnerable position anyway. In general, I do feel like the nurses were good to me and did the best that they could taking care of me from what I can remember. I think the hospital itself should reconsider the garbage being fed to patients though. read more

Recently I had to take a family member to the Emergency Room at Alta View Hospital, they were suffering from several issues and to say it minimally and as nicely as can be, was extremely difficult, and I couldn't believe how how irate, irrational and ridiculous this person was acting; in turn, I was baffled at how kind, patient, understanding, and helpful everyone was here, and I mean everyone! I called ahead before we went down there to advise the staff what we needed and to give them a heads up as to the situation and how difficult this person would be. The person we ended up bringing down for treatment was suffering from extreme pain, nausea, they couldn't breathe, and they were in extreme duress and panic, on top of their numerous existing medical conditions. We dealt with several of the nurses, as we were there most of the day, and shift change had occurred in the middle of our visit. The doctor we dealt with was also great, as everyone was. I felt everyone listened to our concerns and addressed the issues we had with the treatment and situation of the person we brought in. Every staff member showed genuine empathy and displayed kind and professional bedside manner, despite the patients rude, loud, and demanding antics. There was a genuine concern and sense of responsibility from the entire staff, I couldn't have expected that, as sadly, it's such a lost tactic in today's world, especially in the health care system. For me, great bedside manner, communication, and attitude make a great experience for a place like this, it is more important for me to have these things than a shiny or glamorous facility. I am not saying anything bad about this place at all, but it doesn't have some of the new and visual appeal that some of the other hospitals offer. They have all the needed equipment for testing and since it's a smaller place and have less patients, they are able to offer more hands on care and service. The entire time we were there and throughout all the interactions we had with everyone, which was about 20 in total, I was pleased and couldn't have asked for a better experience; I am certain that if we had gone elsewhere, we wouldn't have had such a successful experience. I hope to never have to endure this type of experience of visit to the ER again, however, in the event it arises again, I know where I can turn to! read more

On the eight of February 2020 before midnight the Snowbird Utah ambulance transported my lady friend to Alta View Hospital with altitude sickness distress. The oxygen and IV administered must have helped the staff at emergency. Jessica, Mary, Tobi and doctor Guenter were very professional and caring to stabilize Ernestine. With their help and the medical equipment in emergency, and after some hours, we were able to return to Alta for a short stay to rest and then come down to a lower altitude in Salt Lake City. By worst and I mean WORST Hospital ever! Had my son here in April. My son was born w/ a fever, blotchy skin, and very agitated. They assumed I was a junkie and ran tests!? Like, WTF? Ok, run your tests and when they come back negative? I demand an apology from each one of you! What do you know? Came back negative. Turns out? He broke his clavicle (causes the agitation and screaming) and the fever? He aspirated fluid. That made me so pissed off. How you can take a moment in my life that's so rare, one in a life time, and turn it into something so emotionally battling. Should we ashamed of yourselves. So, next one! Came in Tuesday night with 103 temp, kidney infection (worst pain I've ever had) chills, body aching, hard time breathing. Was told my nurse will be in shortly to start and IV and help you with your discomfort. 45 minutes goes by and NO ONE!! By this time? The IB profin I took before probably broke my fever and I was so irritated by how inattentive the hospital is I called an Uber. Even coming in the paramedics asked the nurse how she was? Her response? Can't wait til this nights over. Right In front of me? Shows me right there just how good my service is gonna be and that same nurse was suppose to be my nurse and she was to start my IV and help me. Too busy playing solitaire on her computer. Anyways! I was getting ready to leave when the Dr. came in I said, I'm leaving took you 45 minutes to see me? Not even a nurse? Bye! His response? It was only 40 minutes. Oh, my bad! It was quitter than a Fing library in there! Busy my ass! I left my anti biotics and called next day to get them? They said they don't know where they're. Really? I filled them at your hospital, you have my info, my number, can't call to tell me, huh? Just throw em away? Even the ER people in the daytime seemed put out they had to go check for me. Unless, this is the only hospital on the PLANET I will NEVER EVER EVER go here again! Ever ever ever! read more

I waited for over an hour to be told that they can't give me pain meds after being in a car accident the day before. Pain pills are made for people in pain but I can't get them now. They sent me home still in pain and just shrugged their shoulders. Ask for pain pills and they look at you like your an addict. We need to be treated just like any other patients but they refuse to help us. read more

So In 2017 my daughter was in an auto accident and received medical attention after , my daughter wasn't living with me and I was unaware of an e.r visit nor info issues long story short how I was made aware of these charges was being contacted by I.c systems collections, I went from a 740 credit score to a 620 ..auto insurance wasn't pursued appropriately and they said it was to late to Perdue them ..
