    The mirror warning.

Tell me your business is failing without telling me your business is failing. Granted, I missed several red flags. So a portion of this is on me. We will get to that. I figured you all would want to know. So, for starters, because of my career, I've spent a large portion of 20 years in hotels and motels. From the $30/night specials, to the $1,000/night luxury world renowned properties. I've got a pretty good guage of what I should get for what I've paid. Red flag missed #1: Saturday, 5pm, late July in the hottest recorded month in world history (not kidding, it was all over the news). And the parking lot is virtually empty. Red flag #2: as I'm waiting to check in, the front desk lady legit tells the guy in front of me, "Let me go check if your room is ready." Then leaves us there, to take the elevator up and go check the room. Oi vey. There are approximately 100 units on the property, two stories. So after I check in, I start noticing the dilapidation of the property. Hasn't been pressure washed or painted in awhile. Gutters are rusted (happens pretty quickly on the coast). This is when I knew I was in trouble. During check in, the lady let me know the town closes down pretty early. So if I was hoping for dinner, I should hurry and definitely call beforehand to make sure they're open. She was sweet. Her kindness and professionalism are why this isn't a one star. We go to dinner. Things they don't tell you while booking. Your food choices are fried, fried, Mexican, Pizza, or badly fried. Nothing wrong with some of these choices, but when you're at the beach you crave good seafood. I couldn't even find fresh oysters in one of the oyster capitals of the world. Also, the lady was right. Many of the choices were closed. It was 5:45pm on a Saturday night. We head back to the hotel, excited to hot tub overlooking the bay. Pool is closed. Hot tub is closed. This info would have been nice while trying to book. Also, their restaurant and bar are "temporarily" closed. A local told me it's been closed since last year. So we decide to take a shower and watch some TV. Shower is FILTHY! I'm talking hairs from the last guest, sand, and grime build up. I spend some time cleaning it up. Shower head is leaking and spraying everywhere. I'm now disappointed in my choice of stay. Went to use a hand towel, what looked like a dried booger folded up in it. Gross. There's a sign above the sink that says they'll charge you if you wash anything but your hands in the sink. So, I go to wash my hands. Immediate pool of water on the floor coming from the bottom of the sink somewhere. I called this one in, didn't want to get charged. Poor lady sounded defeated. Like, she knows. And she knows there's nothing she can do about it. She gives me a forced cheery, "Thanks for letting us know." This reminds me that when I was checking in, a lady came up and stated, "Much better!" Sounded like maybe she had to move rooms. Finally, we're in bed. Ready to watch TV. Guess what? No cable. Just streaming apps. But no account. You have to put your own in. Lol This is pretty much how our whole stay went. One star for the view and location. One for the wonderful lady trying to run the whole place by herself. Who, btw, greeted me at the door with her cleaning cart when I was leaving my room to check out.

We stayed here for a week and the owner was the sweetest guy! He brought us fruit for our room when we told him it was our honeymoon, every time we walked in the lobby he asked us if there was anything we needed from him, cups, plates, silverware, coffee, etc, etc. He will talk about things and tell stories if you sit and chat with him. He asked us if we would like some fresh muffins and coffee before we left and made sure we were well taken care of the whole time! 5 stars from my husband and I! We hope it'll be here next year because we will be back!

    Pool

Chose this option because it advertised a heated outdoor pool. When I asked how late the pool was open at check in, I was told till 10, and it was only heated to 60-70 degrees. Checked out the pool, and the lock is rusted, and the pool is filthy - clearly it isn't open or maintained. I wouldn't have been upset if I was just told it wasn't open, but what I was told wasn't truthful. The room was also not cleaned properly. There were smashed candies under the table that were promptly found by my 2 year old, there were spills on the walls near the refrigerator and in the bathroom near the sink. Lastly, when I checked in, the person at the desk spoke rudely about the person who checked in before me, and there was a small argument between the front desk person and a housekeeper who came to the desk, further unprofessional behavior.

    Bones?

I'll start off by saying that this hotel has so much potential. The owners are just not seeing it. I should have trusted the reviews. This is "NOT A RESORT" as the name implies. Pool is closed "for maintenance". There are actually bones around the pool (see picture) People are living out of the motel. (No picture). The breakfast they offer is pretty sad. (See picture). Like many other reviews, there was a urine stain on the mattress. Our room looks right into a neighborhood depriving you of privacy. We kept the curtains closed most of the time.

Broken lamp shade by the chair that had a brown stain on it.

The room was minimally clean. Cobwebs in the corner of the ceiling. Lampshade broken and barely holding together. Beds were hard and the sheets were lumped up at the end of the bed, not tucked in. Comforter appeared to have been new --- in 1965. Carpet. Oh my. There was some sort of gunk on the carpet between the beds, and the rest of the carpet was worn and quite dirty looking. There were patches on the drywall that could have been done better by a toddler. The chair by the table with the broken lamp shade looks as though someone took a crap on it. The bathroom was serviceable and somewhat clean except for the gray hair that was in one of the towels, and was not mine as I had just taken the towel off the rack. One of the light bulbs was on its way out and was flickering like a strobe light...I unscrewed it. No iron or ironing board although there was a holder for them. No hangers for the closet cubby. Lastly, the bed was so close to the sliding glass door leading to the pool that you had to roll into the bed and access the door from the bed. The ONLY good thing about the room was the pillows. For $135 a night, this place is just not worth it. Oh! I forgot. There is no food service on premises because the cook quit a while back and they haven't been able to hire anyone. The next morning they did however have some coffee, stale bagels, and some bananas in the lobby. No thanks.

Dirty and rusted lamps by bed

This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever seen. The mattresses are covered in pee spots, the carpet is tattered and hasn't been vacuumed in god knows how long, the windows are caked in bird poop, the whole building smells musty and you guessed it, like pee. There is visible dirt, hair and debris covering every surface. Also, it's obvious there has been no maintenance done in probably decades. Everything is stained, or broken. I'm using a dog blanket from my car for a blanket because it's cleaner than anything in this room. We ended up here due to the last minute cancellation of our rental.

King size bed and all the mirrors

Overall impression, older hotel with lots of charm. The Alsi Resort felt very much like the kind of place my grandparents would've gone on holiday. That isn't a bad thing in my mind. It really lends itself to that nostalgic feeling of awe. We only stayed one night, and didn't get to see the full hotel, but we really enjoyed what we experienced. I reserved a king suite with two person jetted tub as a Valentine's Day surprise for my fiance. The photos I saw of this particular room were iffy. I wasn't sure if I was going to actually like it because it didn't look like it had been updated in 40 years. Check in was a breeze. I'm not sure what the gentleman's name was that helped us but he was friendly and pointed us toward the restaurant on site that was doing a Valentine's special (they also had live music!). When we mentioned that we were excited to get to the room after a 2 hour drive, he moved our room around to be further from the excitement of the restaurant (super appreciative!). When I first stepped into the room, my first thought was "it's like a 70s porn set in here!" but in the best possible way. So. Many. Mirrors! We could literally see the TV from the tub (that was in a nook BEHIND the TV). The bedding and limited decor was updated from the pictures I saw which definitely helped the ambiance of the room. The jetted tub was absoltely amazing. Myself and my fiance fit in it with plenty of room for another person if we had prepared for it. The only negative with the tub itself is the large suction hole (I have zero idea what this is called) that pulls water in to then shoot it out through the jets, it's large enough for a hand or a foot to get caught in it - yes I learned my lesson and will have a large hickey looking bruise on my tush for a while. The stairs leading to the tub were pretty slick and there isn't anything to grab on to to get yourself in or out so definitely plan for that. We didn't inquire about accessibility equipment for the tub but they might have bars to help get in and/or out. The only carpet in the room is on the raised platform that the bed rests on. It's orange and odd but charming in its own right. Every other floor surface is tile and it is COLD (bring slippers). There was a couch, table and chairs, microwave and fridge for convenience. Lights in the main room are dim-able for that extra ambiance. In the bathroom it was standard column sink, toilet and shower/bath combo. Ample room, nice bright lights, cold cold cold floor. Once we spent some time in the tub, we thought we'd grab a drink before bed. We headed out at about 9:10pm only to be told they closed at 9pm. There was a sign on the door that we totally missed but it was a bit of a bummer that we couldn't get a drink just to take to our room. The bed was really comfortable, bedding nice and soft, pillows felt like a down alternative. My fiance and I slept without waking up from anything. Their breakfast was a bit lacking (coffee, tea, two cereals, milk, juice and toast with maybe a few pieces of fruit) but it was free and coffee was definitely fresh. I think Alsi Resort is missing out on some prime marketing. Their motif is "in" right now with my generation wanting to pretend we miss the good ole days and wanting to relive the summer Baby spent at Kellerman's. Make a few adjustments like better breakfast, some period artwork on the walls and some kitschy add ons and you've gone from a $70 per night room to a $175 per night room. All that being said, we will be back! I think we've started a new tradition!

We booked this room earlier in the day on 8/14/2022 through Expedia. Expedia said there were 5 other rooms available at the same price of $129, but when we skedaddled out of there after 8:00 pm, there were only 7 cars in the parking lot. And this is a big place. The resort was not up to minimum quality and cleanliness standards. It is advertised as a "resort" but the restaurant was closed (we were told a recent plumbing problem), the pool was closed (no reason given) and the room was filthy. We arrived at the resort and checked in about 6:30 pm but did not go to the room immediately. Since the restaurant was closed, we went off-site for dinner. We returned around 8:00 pm and went to the room. The room was old, dirty, and smelly. I had to kill a spider to open the window. The windowsill was covered with dirt--not dust, dirt. There were 2 queen beds but only 2 paper cups for coffee, bathroom sink, whatever. There were no washcloths. Admittedly, the carpeting looked new. The ceiling fan was very old and covered with dust. I inspected the mattress (which I always do) and found hair and lots of little black specs, evidence of what I suspected were bedbugs. At that point we decided we were leaving figuring other rooms were similar. My wife went to the front desk, but no one was there. There was a sign with a phone number to report problems. We called the number and told them (I'm assuming the manager) of the condition of the room and that we were leaving, and we left. They said they'd be down to inspect the room, but we said it doesn't matter, we were not staying here. We were only in the room for about 20 minutes. The manager inspected the room after we left. She called us and admitted that, "The mattress is dirty but that there were no bedbugs." We asked for a refund, and she refused saying "If there were bedbugs, I'd give you a refund but there are no bedbugs." 'Nuff said.

Please note, that is our comforter on the bed - I am weird and bring my comforter most places.
