The Alpine Lodge Restaurant is a free standing building on the same lot as the Best Western motel. It is open to the public, but is extremely convenient for guests staying at one of the two Best Western hotels. The breakfast buffet was actually free because I was staying at the Best Western motel. I received a coupon for the free breakfast when I checked into the hotel. Because this is also a restaurant for the public, you have to wait to be seated by your waitress. She will also ask you what you want and bring you your drink even though coffee and juice are included. It is nice service and worthy of a tip, so bring your wallet and show up in something other than your PJs. The staff are frequently replenishing the food in the buffet area, so the food is always hot and nicely presented and the area is clean. The buffet includes both hot and cold items. There are scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and a do-it-yourself waffle iron. You can also load up on fresh cut fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, cereal, toast, and pastries. Since it is a buffet, I'm assuming you can go back for seconds, but I didn't try since I loaded up my plate the first time around. I'm not sure what other choices are available in Pecos, but this one seemed to attract plenty of locals for breakfast. They apparently serve lunch and dinner too. The back area of the restaurant looks like an outdoor tiki bar. The patio has surfboard tables and appears to be a great place to get drinks with friends after work. Next time I go through Pecos, I'll have to check out the late night options. read more

I stopped in here for lunch as I was driving through the town of Pecos about a week ago. It's just a typical little restaurant nothing special. The servers and staff were friendly enough. I had a patty melt and it was tasty if I were coming through town again I probably would stop here and try something else. SHORT REVIEW: Surprisingly improved from my visit a year ago. What a difference a year makes. The caveat is that some of the other tables had some problems with promptness of service I had low expectations based on my prior 2 visits. This time, we were there a few days before Christmas. The restaurant seemed adequately staffed and we were politely greeted and seated promptly. The salad bar and vegatable beef soup remains a great draw and is probably the major reason I come back. The soup was delicious, although there were two tureens at two different temperatures, neither of which were particularly hot. There was a tremendous amount ot beef in the soup. The only negative is that the restuarant appeared to have run out of rolls at 630 PM on a Friday night. I asked a server and she said the kitchen had no more...whatever. Being a glutton for punishment, I ordered the steak and this time double checked with the waiter to assure he entered the order as medium-rare. It came out as ordered. While not the most tender rib eye I have ever had, it was flavorful and a good value given the price point. My wife's fish tacos (who orders fish in the middle of texas?) were good read more

An oasis in the middle of the desert, this place will make you glad you trekked over here instead of going into downtown Pecos. It's affiliated with the Best Western next door, and I don't know if this place's success is in spite of or because of that but you won't care. Neither will u care that they don't have anything on tap, because it's either this or the Dicky's BBQ across the street under I-20 that doesn't have any alcohol at all. One awesome feature about this place is they totally cutoff the bar area from the family-friendly quieter main house tables and booths-- complete with two tvs and an open-backed fireplace in the center of the room! The NFL playoffs were going on so as i was finishing my chop steak slathered in mushrooms and gravy (yes, they even have both kinds "white" and "brown"-hah!) a warm soup side and baked potato (which i highly recommend) when it was 36 degrees outside, I couldn't help but overhear the woops and clapping that you'd find par for the course at any sports bar (see my review of Hardknocks in Portland, Texas) so I asked about their bar area because I didn't see it mentioned at all in the internet descriptions i had read and it was only a footnote on on their food menu and my awesome waitress (who catered to my every whim with the great acknowledgement of "You got it.") related that they had someone tending the bar and that they didn't have a tap, but that they did have bottles and cans and liquor. So i settled up with my main house waitress and paid at the register and then made my way to the bar in the back. And then my visit got even better! It wasn't just a little rinky dink short counter bar a' la the marriot courtyard - it was a full on BAR. Complete with loud patrons watching the game at all. A good mix of male and females, the place was lively without feeling crowded. It's obviously a favorite of the locals as well as the roughnecks who work the oil fields and drive the oil rigs for the petroleum companies like chevron around here. But if you look at the picture that I posted it has a a good mix of people just passing through on the way to El Paso or Albuquerque to the West or San Antonio to the east as well. But perhaps the best feature of this place was the staff. This place is fully staffed and very att, which I don't ever seen much of (except for Roses and Adelaide in Berkeley (see my review). All of them were women from all different ages and they all took very good care of me in the sweetest southern/tex-mex charm way possible. Some of them reminded me of my aunts, and one of them I wanted to ask out, she was so cute. What a great way and place to spend the night before the MLK holiday. Forget downtown Pecos! Even though I've never been there I can tell you this place is better. And it's right off I-20. I doubt I'll ever pass this way again, but if I do I will definitely not miss my chance to come here again. Well done management! Well done. read more

We have eaten here several times as it's one of the better restaurants in Pecos, however our experience last night was one of the worst we've had anywhere. We walked in and attempted to sit in the open seating bar area (which is separate from the Alpine restaurant and like we have done many times before) only to find it was full. So we walked back to the front and requested a table for three, which was met with a very off putting scoff and rude eye roll from an older waitress. A younger gentleman walked us to a table and handed us a drink menu and food menus and took our beverage orders. We asked for a Moscow Mule (from the menu I was handed) and Vodka Cranberry (standard bar drink) and he took the order and walked away. Five minutes later, the rude older woman from before told us that she was sorry but we couldn't order drinks because no one on the staff knew how to put the orders into the computer so we could only get water or soda. We told her we have ordered drinks here many times before and have never had an issue and she just said "well I don't know what to tell you. We don't know how. I can get the manager if you want? I don't know." She then just walked off without any resolution. We sat there for another 10 minutes and tried to see if any tables opened up in the bar, but it was still full. No one ever came back to our table or would even look our way so we got up and left. We would have happily changed our drink orders to a simple beer, but not sure that was even an option at that point. No one said a word when we walked by the 3 staff members, including the guy who sat us and the rude older woman, on our way out. We have been here dozens of times and have spent a lot of hard earned money at this restaurant but will likely not return. I don't appreciate the eye rolls and rude attitudes when just trying to enjoy a nice dinner after a hard day at work. read more

I will give the food 4 stars but, if I could give 10 stars for our waiter Alex. I would... he had the absolute best personality! He was attentive and hilarious!! We haven't had that kind of service in a long time. The food was good. My husband had the chopped steak, it had good flavor. I had the Texas Cordon Blue. The breading was soggy, but the flavors were alright. The salad bar was awesome, great selection. All I all, we enjoyed it and will definitely be return customers. read more

My hubby rates this restaurant -3, we should have left when we were taken to a table and requested a different booth, no verbal communication from hostess but the eye roll she gave spoke volumes. A seemingly competent waitress approached the table and took our orders. DINNER NEVER ARRIVED. We waited 45 mins and during that time our plates were delivered to the wrong table, and after they were sent back it was never corrected! What a waste of a Friday evening. This is a tough one to review. I had a salad and chicken fried steak. The salad bar was great. The chicken fried steak was just average. My daughter had a build your own burger. The burger was cooked right but came on a HUGE bun so it looked ridiculous. Her fries were just okay she said. But, having said this, the place has a liquor license with a bar and pours a mean Jack and Coke. It is also directly next to the hotel I was staying at and after driving for 7 hours from Phoenix just average food which didn't require further traveling was good enough for us at that point. My family and I went into the Alpine Lodge restaurant this evening we were set at a booth and we waited for our waiter to come to our table when our waiter came to our table he said he'd be right back with us we ordered our drinks and we ordered two beers and his manager came to the table and started to assist us by bringing our drinks and then took our food order we waited 20 minutes for our beers to be brought to our table after having to remind the manager that we order two beers. The whole time we were there our waiter never came to our table to ask us if we needed anything . The only time the waiter came to our table was when we were done with our food, he asked if we needed a Togo box and said WE WERE THE EASIEST TABLE HE HAS EVER HAD. He had two tables tonight and the restaurant wasn't very busy , my family and I felt like we were or looked and the waiter only cared for his other tables . If I could give this place no stars I would. While traveling my coworkers and someone said we should give this place a try. Where do I begin? Two of the gentlemen in my party ordered Ribeye while two of us ordered Filets. They came out and said the filets would be about 30 mins to which we said no problem. After about 45 mins and our table not being cleaned and filled to the max with glasses, our salad bar plates and empty bottles he informed us it would be another 20 mins for the filets. We then changed our order to the Scallopini and a Cheeseburger. My one companion received a steak charred and rubber like after ordered it Medium. I received something that should have resembled meat but was absolutely horrendous along with a side of fake water alfredo dry noodles. I mean I would have rather had cat food. This has far been one of the top three worse meals I've ever had in my life. I usually never complain or send food back. We come here often for drinks and dinner. When we first started coming here service was friendly and good. Seems like the more we are here the worse the service has become. There are waitresses walking around with earbuds in their ears, sitting and flirting with one table for 15+minutes (while we have to order drinks from another waitress). When you ask for a drink or something extra, they roll their eyes like they can't be bothered with it. Being an exwaitress I know this is NOT how you treat your customers. WE are part of your pay. The other options provided to us for dining later at night (It was past 8 when we got in) were fast food and while I am sure the fast food would have been cheaper, I am sure that it wouldn't have been better for us or probably tasted any better. (Unless you have a real love of fast food pizza) If you're staying at the Best Western it's probably your best option unless you're looking to save some cash. Saw some locals in here as well, so I might not be too wrong about it being one of the better places in town to find food later at night. I am with the energy boom that is going on here. Typical of a boom town all of the locals who have talent are working in the oil patch. This is reflected in all of the restaurants in town. There simply isn't a good place in town except for the Stripes convenience stores for a meal. The Alpine is part of the problem. The special tonight was Chicken Parmesan. It had minimal meat and was so salty I couldn't finish the meal. Paid $21.21 for an upset stomach. Would have saved $20.00 if I had purchased a TV dinner as well as having a better meal. It is the same with all of their meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner). As part of the Best Western hotel complex I expect better. The breakfast at the next door Swiss Chalet is always excellent as is the staff. I just wish the owner would do something about this greasy spoon dive. read more

Breakfast was everything I would want for in a hotel restaurant breakfast and was tasty with all kinds of options. The bartender/waitress is what made this place so great. She made great tasting drinks and was very friendly and helpful when serving the customers. Considering the lack of options in Pecos, this place had a lot to offer. I ordered the grilled pork chop meal and was pleased with it. It came with a side salad (one trip to the salad bar), a side of peas and carrots, and a baked potato. The pork chop was tender and juicy and cooked all the way through. The baked potato was hot and cooked well. The peas and carrots tasted like they were from a cheap can, but I was mainly interested in the meat - not the veggies - so it was of no consequence. The salad bar options were minimal to average, but all of it seemed fresh. If you're looking for a place to have drinks with your dinner, I would highly recommend the Alpine Lodge Restaurant. read more

Came here after recommendations from Fairfield Inn. My husband and I are on a 2 week road trip. We started in Illinois as far west as New Mexico and currently in Louisiana. Been talking about our travels so far. Alpine Lodge was the worst food so far. Had a French dip sandwich. How can u screw that up? Fake meat. I stepped into a scene straight out of the twilight zone. No, for reals! After driving several hours in the rain, we stopped in about 8pm to get some food. Looked like the only decent place around. When we walked in, there was an open table right where we come in. Some lady (apparently one of the many family members who worked here and had her kids here) told us "It will be an hour" as to discourage us from sitting down because she wanted to go home. We sat down anyway because we were starving. After about 15 minutes, got our drinks from the bar (The ONLY saving grace at this place.) My husband ordered the Grilled Chicken Breast Au Jous with fruit. It came out as a chicken breast and a small thing of grapes "because that was all they had" Mind you, this cost over 10.00. It also doesn't include any "Au Jous" and the waitress (presumably one of the young daughters / sisters just shrugged and said she didn't know) I ordered the grilled chicken caeser salad which came out without any dressing. Then they brought me a cup full of dressing to add myself. That was about 13.00. The place was HORRIBLE and the ONLY reason they are still in business is the same reason they have a nice La Quinta here - HALLIBURTON. They are forced to eat here or McDonalds or Subway...
