The staff are amazing! First of all they FIXED THE PROBLEM THE SAME DAY! They called me back and got my urgent sprinkler situation on the schedule the same day. The technician Gerod who was assigned to our project was professional, took my concerns seriously, knowledgeable, affordable, did the job for the best price, and educated me about how to use the system moving forward. Being a new homeowner and not having a clue why my sprinklers weren't working, I was completely at their mercy and they didn't take advantage of my lack of knowledge. We were (are) extremely disappointed in the service we paid for. We asked for a quote on some yard work, and we got a ballpark verbal estimate, but when we got the written estimate, it was for twice the amount of the verbal, and not very well planned or thought-out. We are still waiting for the rest of the plans we paid for, and we have had to request it multiple times as the rep seems to have disappeared on us. She no-showed for an appointment with us and didn't even call us until two weeks after that! We are sticking a check in the mail as we agreed to, but if this level of service is any indication of the work that we would be paying for, we would not recommend them. read more

We had work done over 1 year ago. The communication while planning was poor, and we were told on part of the project we would just have to wait and adjust as they worked on it to see. Would have been fine, but they did not adjust anything we had talked about. Left us with a ski slope full of rock that even the workers said they couldn't walk on safely. Also built a breeze walkway, but the gravel was loose and kept washing away when it rained. The designer, when we called about it, said that was not good. When asked why they didn't put the edging along it as we talked about, we were told he had accidentally taken it off the bill when he was adjusting it. So it won't be installed. AGAIN, no communication. But wouldn't fix it or help us with solutions. Also, when they came back to replace some bushes that had died, they told us we didn't have enough water going to them and needed more drip openings to the plant. When I said, Alpine planted them and put in the watering system, so we think it might be your fault. They got upset with me. Just found out this year that they did not even put a water line to a tree they planted in the yard. There were many more problems we endured as they worked on our yard, but we think you see their attitude. Even when we showed there was an error in following the plan they provided us, they were rude to us! They do what they want and then scold you when you ask questions. Whether it was the planning, installation or followup, we were always to blame. But we did realize, to them, the customer is always wrong! read more

Just one year after their work, I am very unhappy with this landscaping company. They are extremely expensive and their work is poor quality. They did the original landscaping for my new home. They did not put any topsoil down before they installed the sod. Now I have to reseed and patch areas every spring because the underlying soil is just the natural adobe dirt, which is hard as concrete and does not absorb moisture or applied fertilizer. They refused to redo the sodding to include top soil installation. Also, the edging they installed between my rock and the greenway grass is falling over. They wanted $2000.00 to fix this mess. The screen mesh they installed on my rail fence to keep my dog in is now coming off. I was new to the area and unfamiliar with landscaping companies in this area. I have now learned that Alpine Gardens has a very poor reputation among landscapers in this area. I strongly recommend that you NEVER use Alpine Gardens unless you like to overpay for poor quality work. Dear Nate Fetig of Alpine Gardens; I completely disagree with your response. I stand by all of my comments in the original post and I have responded as follows to your response. You were never here and never came by to observe my property. The same is true of Jack, the owner. I am retired and I was here the entire time and observed all the work. 1. Neither compost nor topsoil was put down before your crew installed the sod in my backyard. They simply rototilled up the natural adobe dirt along with the weeds in the dirt and then installed the sod on top of that. Being new to the area, I assumed they knew what they were doing. After observing other sod installations in my neighborhood by other landscapers, I noted that topsoil/compost was always installed before the sod. Being concerned, I called Alpine Gardens and spoke with Jack. He simply told me that they were supposed to install topsoil/compost and that he was sorry that they did not do that. That was the last I heard on the matter from Alpine Gardens. There was never an offer to correct the problem. 2. Since I was new to the area, I also assumed your workers knew what they were doing concerning the edging on the west side of my property. If it was of insufficient thickness (as Heidi Fetig told me after the problem developed), why did your crew not alert me to the probable problem? If I had know that a problem would surly occur, then I would have made different choices, but that was never offered to me. The thickness and quality of the metal edging is not specified in the contract I had to sign with you to get the work done. Also, there is no traffic on that section of my property, either by my dog or a human. That is an assumption on your part. My dog stays in the house and only goes out to relieve himself in the grass or he goes out with me into the greenway. I did not even have a dog at the time of your installation. Please note that the developer landscaper installed edging that continues from where your work stopped to the front of my home. It has the very same steep slope as the area you edged. Their work has not failed or fallen over. I sent Heidi pictures showing the difference. Yes, after the problem occurred, she suggested thicker edging and deeper stakes; however, she wanted almost $2000.00 to correct the problem. I am not in the habit of paying the same vendor twice for work. I am 74 years old and retired. I live on Social Security and my savings. 3. Yes, you have a contract that I had to sign to get the work done. Your warranty is more of a contract to protect Alpine Gardens. Not knowing the area, I paid for a voucher with Alpine Gardens when I purchased the home from the builder. I did not know any other landscapers in the area. I did not see your contract at the time I included that voucher in my home purchase. Your contract is 3-pages long and contains at least 22 listed items for which you will NOT be responsible! I guess the edging was one of those. You did not repeatedly address my concerns as you state. Any addressing on your part was as described in items 1 and 2 above. Concerning you offer to revisit the issues, as I said above I am not in the habit of paying the same vendor twice for work. I have never given a yelp review ~ til Now. On 9/11/2014 I made a planned trip to ALPINE GARDENS LANDSCAPING offices on College Ave. with a printed/scaled copy of my front yard to inquire of their services for our landscape conversion. After scheduling an on-site appointment and meeting with Jill, ALPINE GARDENS Residential Landscape Design and Sales person, and discussing a proposal for SOD REMOVAL only for the front yard landscape conversion plan, I received an 11 page downloadable/printable document from ALPINE GARDENS with a proposal of cost and work for sod removal in my front yard, an area of 2000 square foot actual sod removal. The written proposal includes ONLY sod removal - NO hauling old turf away ~ for the Grand Sum of $6,925.00.. (Read: almost $7,000.00 DOLLARS.!!) I contacted by phone Kris Nylander, ALPINE GARDENS Residential Landscape Design and Sales person and suggested this price looked outrageous and inquired if it could be an error. He sounded a bit surprised at this cost for the singular work of sod cutting, but assured me that he would look into it. Jill called me today. She justified the price in the proposal saying it was "because of overtime" necessary to do the work and that she "was instructed" to quote it this way. Jill had informed me when she met me on Sept. 24 at my property, that ALPINE GARDENS charges $75.00/hour with 50% due up front, ahead of any work to be done. Now. Let's DO the MATH. The ALPINE GARDENS ARITHMETIC either suggests that this simple turf cutting job will take approx. 92 HOURS. (2~1/2 weeks at 40 hours per week) *OR* One Day = 8 hours of work, @ $865.00 (+) per hour. I have yet to hear back from ALPINE GARDENS as to which MATH they employed in their proposal for the work in my front yard. But I suggest they use a very dubious, price gouging calculator or that they propose to remove my sod with a teaspoon ~ or as the previous comment suggests, ALPINE GARDENS does not care to work except for "ultra large contracts" or high end residential prospective customers - that don't Do MATH. If they don't have the time or did not want to do this work they should simply say so. The proposal they sent me is not only insulting, but disrespectful of all the time I had taken to inquire of their services. read more

We had them redo 45 year old landscaping in our front yard. They did a really nice job and the neighbors can't stop complimenting their work. The process of getting a quote was very well done and the managers were all very professional. The workers, who did the actual job were also very nice and cleaned up after themselves every day. The plant warranty person does an excellent job of keeping up with all of the customers, and routinely comes by to check on the plants, the water schedule (of the new sprinkler system), etc. We had one small plant not make it through the winter this year, and she is replacing it at no cost. One of our new Rainbird sprinklers has stopped working correctly (shooting water straight up), and I am certain that they will fix it, but getting in on the schedule for that is frustratingly slow. read more

We have used Jack Fetig and Alpine Gardens for our house's new landscape. We looked at several companies and went with Alpine Gardens due to their reputation, time in the community, and our meeting with Jack. The initial product was great and we were very pleased with an outstanding landscape. Jack went through several versions and variations with us pre-install, and spent the time to educate us on our options and expected costs. The install was smooth with excellent, considerate and friendly workers. Further, Alpine Gardens has stood by their work and assisted us and educated us with issues that have arisen both related and unrelated to their work. I would not hesitate to use them again and recommend them as a quality, reliable and honorable business. read more

Full back yard re-landscape- After meeting with 3 prospective landscapers and obtaining at best, vague explanations of what the others were going to do, we called Alpine. Jack met with us and we gave him some ideas of what we wanted. 7 days later we met with Jack again. He had detailed drawings, a complete list of every plant, were it was going, detailed goals for completion and even color CAD drawings of visual perspective of what the final project would look like. Most important a set in stone price. He designed a complete package that far exceeded our rough ideas and fit our goals perfectly. Furthermore, before starting the project he brought over his crew and introduced them so we knew if there were issues who to talk with on site. BTW there were no issues with any of his crew who worked very hard and were personable. We must admit that it was more than we expected to spend and do not regret a single cent! A great transformation from boring suburbia yard to a wonderful living space. Great work and thank you! read more

On 5/16/15 my wife and I went to Alpine Gardens to get ideas for backyard landscaping and decorating for our new home. We arrived around 2:00 PM, and noticed the business was busy. We walked the outdoor nursery and plants area for nearly 45-minutes, being passed and overlooked by a number of Alpine Gardens employees. My wife finally volunteered to go inside the shop to ask for help. To her surprise she was told by a female Alpine Gardens employee that they were "too busy" to send someone out to help us with our questions and purchase. The woman told my wife to "just read the plant containers for information", because she was not going to send anyone! We left immediately thereafter, went to an area competitor, where we received outstanding service and attention when we walked on to their site. We made our $1,400 purchase at their competitors - and NOT at Alpine. We will never go back!! read more
