If you're driving…read morethrough Soda Springs, I highly recommend timing your visit for the top of the hour so you can watch the famous geyser erupt. We arrived just as the clock struck 4:00 p.m. and barely made it in time--it was the perfect welcome! Watching the geyser shoot high into the air was impressive, but what really surprised me was learning that it's the world's only captive geyser. Knowing it was accidentally created in 1937 while workers were drilling for hot water makes the story even more fascinating. The fact that it now erupts every hour on the hour makes it easy to plan your visit. One detail I almost overlooked was the incredible mineral buildup around the geyser. The railings and boardwalk are coated with thick mineral deposits that look soft and fuzzy from a distance, but they're actually rock hard. It's amazing to see how years of mineral-rich water have slowly transformed the area into something that almost looks otherworldly. The park is clean, well maintained, and completely free to visit. It's a quick stop, but it's packed with history, geology, and a genuinely unique experience you won't find anywhere else. And this summer, when we stopped in Jackson on our trip to California, my boys demanded that we allow time for the rock climbing wall. So, after lunch, we did. It's more of a boulder replica than a rock wall but very significant with lots of options for climbing to the top of this 8-10 foot man-made 'boulder' that's approximately 40 feet by 10 feet. Numerous handholds. This is a serious challenge. I don't know much about rock climbing or bouldering and that will be evident in this description. Neither do my boys. All I know is that they love this feature of this park in Jackson, and I've never seen anything else like it anywhere in America.

There are approximately six pools at the site. When you first enter, you will see two pools designed for children and their parents. To the right, there is a cold plunge and another hot spring. If you walk further down the path, you will find two more pools. In addition to the hot springs, the park also offers a small playground for children and a sunbathing area for adults. We tried all the pools except the ones designated for kids. We loved the hot pools, but the cold plunge stood out, it was so cold that it made us feel numb. After soaking in the hot springs, we purchased some drinks from the front desk to cool down. The site also provides showers so you can rinse off the hot spring water before leaving. We recommend bringing your own towel and a waterproof phone protector, just in case you accidentally drop your phone.

The LSR Preserve is near Phelps Lake and has a visitor center. I like driving to the Preserve on Moose-Wilson Road because there is all sorts of wildlife and natural features to be seen. You can also hike through this area. I parked and walked all the way to the visitor center while taking in the amazing views. The trail is surrounded by a sagebrush meadow. Lake Creek flows out of Phelps Lake and is a short walk from the visitor center. The visitor center ended up being closed when I arrived. It is in a wood building and offers ranger-led programs, trail information, weather, and information on Mr. Rockefeller's vision for the Preserve. The LSR Preserve is a beautiful area and worth checking out when open.

Jackson's Town Square is the heart of Jackson, WY and a must-see when visiting the area. The most unique feature is the famous elk antler arches at each corner of the square. Made from thousands of shed elk antlers collected from the nearby National Elk Refuge, these gates are an iconic symbol of Jackson and make for a great photo opportunity. A fun place to walk around, enjoy the local character, and experience a little piece of Jackson's history.

It is one of my absolute favorites,…read moregiven the beauty alone but also the accessibility, proximity to a fun town (Jackson) etc. The airport actually is within the national park (only park that has this feature), so if you land on a clear day you get a STUNNING view of the Tetons mountain range just to the west. Jackson is a 20ish min drive away, or if you go north toward Yellowstone you can pass along the scenic byway and stop along any of the turnouts for INCREDIBLE pictures, including the famous Mormon row. Go into the park toward Jenny lake for some of the most iconic spots, or a solid hike. Delta lake is a hard hike but it's STUNNING, and of course the hike +- the boat ride across Jenny lake to Cascade canyon and hidden falls is as stunning as they come. Oxbow bend is gorgeous for views and chilling too, and I saw folks fishing over in that area. Be aware that the lot at Jenny lake gets INSANELY full despite the fact that it is MASSIVE and has an overflow area, just cause the park is so popular. It is absolutely worth it. Do not miss this park - it lives rent free in my head and every time the weather is good outside I think about hiking in the Tetons!

It was established in 1929 and continues to be a place filled with lots of wildlife and numerous opportunities for hiking and fishing. The best part of our visit was a genteel raft trip down the Snake River, where you can get a whole different perspective of the park's landscape. As we floated down the river, the snow-covered mountains were visible for most of the trip -- making for some truly great photos. A group ahead of us spotted a moose, but it was gone by the time we got to where it was. It was still a very peaceful and enjoyable afternoon in the park. This national park is truly one of the most beautiful ones that I have visited.
