I got my prom dress altered here about 4 years ago and I thought she did a good job. The straps…read morewere shortened and the dress was taken in, costing around $20. I came here this time to get my suit jacket taken in and the zipper fixed on a dress. My sister gets her suit jackets taken in here all the time, and it had always cost her around $10-$15, so I expected that. When I came in, she pinned the jacket and then wrote on the receipt that it would cost $35. That seems a bit much for just some taking in of a blazer and could go towards the cost of buying a brand new blazer. When I asked her why it was that much, she didn't really have an answer. So I decided to just have the dress done. It was a brand new dress that had an iffy zipper. I brought it in with the price tag still on it, in the event that it's not fixable, I would return it. She stated it would be an easy fix with no need for a new zipper. I just picked it up, and nothing seems changed; in fact, it seems worse. The hole that was in the zipper is still there and she cut the price tag off (even though it wasn't in the way of the zipper). When I informed her that I'm still having the same trouble with the zipper, she and her co-worker didn't even move from their seats to see what the issue might be, or what could be done to fix it. She just said "if it's still not fixed it needs a new zipper." Even though that's not what she said originally, and has already cut the price tag off so I can't return it. I do believe they tailor well but I do not appreciate their business practices and will not be returning.

Barbara started off our consultation by telling me what she was going to do to my dress based on her opinion of how it looked on me. People do not go to tailors or "master dressmakers" (as she calls herself) to get their opinions, they go to have their dresses tailored to their bodies. That being said, nobody other than myself should voice an opinion about how my body looks in a garment. She actually hemmed my dress very well which I appreciate. I also needed her to place more fabric in the bust of the dress to accommodate my body. I was very specific with what I was looking for and she told me that she could do what I was asking and she would have plenty of time to finish it by the date I needed it. To my surprise when I went to pick up the dress it was obviously rushed and it appears she did not even attempt to pay attention to detail (see photos). She didn't even fully attach the extra piece of fabric! This left the dress lumpy and forced me to have to pin it in place, despite the fact that I paid for "master dressmaker" level work. I did not even have time to have her fix the mistakes because she finished the dress the day before I needed to wear it.I am very disappointed with the lack of proper customer service, as well as the empty promises made by the tailor herself. Of course people (especially craftsmen) should know their worth and price their services appropriately, however the price I had to pay for her work did not match the quality of the work performed. I do not recommend taking your garments to be altered here.
