Our GSD, Zerstörer completed two courses at Alpha K9 Academy and started agility training on September 2nd. Our goal is to raise an obedient German Shepherd who is cat friendly and the protector of the house. Glenn and Zack's help has been instrumental in our ability to raise our dog inside the house without ANY furniture destruction, no chewed shoes, and no dumped over trash cans. At 6 months he is still very much a puppy and will continue to test us, but fortunately we have the tools to help us through any rough patches we may encounter. We plan on remaining with Alpha K9 to ensure Zerstörer continues to be challenged mentally as well as physically. Unfortunately I had a more negative experience than positive with Glenn at the K9 Academy. On the first day of class he explained to us what we'd be learning in the basic class and said the most important thing was to have fun. Well there isn't anything fun about Glenn. He's pretty much a jerk with no patience and honesty I felt abused after leaving each class. Having said that, my dog Benny and I did learn basic techniques of obedience and they've certainly worked for us. I think he certainly knows what he's doing but in my opinion if you're a beginner and just want to have fun learning basic obedience with your dog and have no aspirations to have a "cop dog" go somewhere else. I paid good money for this class and haven't gone back to get our certificate of completion because I have no interest in seeing him again. read more

Cooper finished his basic manners class last week. What a difference it has made. He pays attention, follows our commands and loves to please. He was running from the house to go across the street and a car was coming. A simple attention command stopped him in his tracks while he waited for our next command. We followed with a come command to which he followed and then gave him plenty of praise. This is just one example of the difference Alpha K-9 has made. It's now onto advanced classes! Our 8 year old boxer went through basic training class with Alpha K9 Academy after a dog fight left him with PTSD and aggressive defense issues toward other dogs. He definitely learned to trust that WE are in control of him and he is far more relaxed, obedient and trusting. We passed basic training with our 5 month old Mastiff and are now well into advanced training with her. She is now 6 months and Glen has helped us learn to quickly teach our dog commands. By reading his printed instructions, listening and applying what is learned in class and DOING the homework daily we are on track to graduate early, tho we don't want to because we have too much fun. My father is 93 years old. Very with it and very spry. He was a teacher for 45 years , I took his class at COS, it was awesome to see him interact with the students,I loved hearing them talk about what an enjoyable class it was for a subject that most students feared and dreaded taking, speech. My father showed these students patience and respect, in turn the same was givin back to him. Now, last September a puppy was dumped by my house and my father fell in love, he decided to keep him and name him Skippy:) well he loves Skippy but he just needed some socializing and learn some manners. A friend of my son had taken his dog to the academy and was happy with the results so he decided to give it a try. He was really excited about going, I decided to try and make as many lessons as possible . Glenn needs to learn people skills, he is rude and condescending,plain and simple. My fathers blood pressure was elevated after all three classes. At one point my father reached down and with his hand was encouraging Skippy to sit, Glenn turned around and reprimanded my father in front of the whole class that he shouldn't do that he could hurt him. The second class ,Skippy was less nervous but still couldn't focus on the task at hand. So again in front of the whole class, Glenn's son proclaimed that it was obvious my father and Skippy had not done their homework. So now on to class number three. I was unable to attend but my dad and Skippy attended. This is where it got strange, Glenn asked my father where I was and proceeded to tell my father that he (Glenn) and I had an agreement that I would attend all the classes with them . There was no such agreement , it made my father very uncomfortable . After class glenn offered to meet with Dad and Skippy the following Thursday to go over all the lessons and my father accepted , but after they got home and Dad and I spoke we agreed all the stress wasn't worth it. Glenn may have dog training skills but sorry to say his people skills are severely lacking. So here lies the problem, the dogs bring their human with them. read more

I called today to get my dog evaluated. He said I can do that over the phone. I explained why I wanted to have her evaluated and he informed me, "if a vet labeled the dog as aggressive then what do you want from me?" My dog growled and barked at the vet when he gave her a sedative before surgery. They were not even willing to make an appointment to actually assess her or her behavior. She is a large breed dog, a lab mix but moreover I also have a beagle who has attacked someone and barks and growls at the vet. He has not been labeled aggressive. This makes me wonder if my dog is aggressive or is my vet wrong. As a consumer, I have a concern and they are supposed to be professionals trained to assess dog behavior, how does one go about that over the phone? So if I had a vicious pit bull, shepherd, Doberman and simply told them she never growled or barked, then she's not aggressive? I wanted my dog to be evaluated and they were rude, unwilling to even make an appointment and unprofessional. Buyer beware, if they are assessing dog behavior over the phone are they really qualified to train a puppy adequately. read more
