I was able to book a lesson right away. I mean like 2 days from booking! Seemed like this instructor had open availability.... but okay, at least I could practice. I got Julio (I did not read the reviews beforehand...) and it was the worst experience that I've ever had driving. This man kept grabbing the steering wheel, yelling about how people complain about him, told me to look at this car and that car b/c they don't know what they're doing, etc.. This lesson was a mess. The ladies that I spoke to were always pleasant whenever someone actually answered the phone.. They were helpful however they always seems disorganized and in a rush. I understand there's a lot going on in the world they just might be understaffed. I requested to change instructors right after that lesson. I got Ron and he is actually the reason I'm even giving this school stars. Ron was like a breath of fresh air. Calm, patient and able to communicate while giving pointers & critiques. He's still stern without all of the extra rah rah and I appreciate that. If you are going to book lessons request Ron. I actually took my road test this week and passed. I live in Manhattan but could not afford the Manhattan prices. The blessing of this Driving School first came with the affordable rental and driving lesson. I paid less for the rental and driving lesson than what I would have paid for in Manhattan for the car rental alone. 2nd Blessing: I thought I knew it all and if it wasn't for Mr. Lane's wise words I probably would have failed. We get very comfortable thinking our friend's can teach us everything we need to know to pass but trust me it isn't the same. You need someone who does this for a living. Obtaining your license is a very monumental part of life and you should do it with someone that is not only knowledgeable but also with someone that makes you feel comfortable. As soon as I passed my test I jumped out of the car and gave him a huge hug. I was so happy I forgot to unbuckle my seat belt and almost snapped my neck in half. He saved me from wasting more money. He saved me from wasting more time. He saved me from the dreaded bus and trains we all hate. But most importantly he is a direct reason why I am going to have more opportunities to expand my horizons and push the limits of my potential to the next level. Driving has been my biggest challenge and I'm glad I signed up for the 6-7 lessons package. Although I'm still a new driver I feel so much more confident. If you suffer from severe anxiety like me this is the driving school for you . I told Michael(…read moredriving instructor) about my situation and he advised me that he would help me to overcome my anxiety . I paid for five lessons in March . However, my biggest obstacle was i would freeze up when entering intersections and my right turns were wide . After my fifth lesson Michael was honest with me and he told me I wasn't ready and I needed more practice and I needed to relax and stop panicking. I was upset and thought he was being too critical and I went to another driving school . Whilst at that the other driving school I realized that my new instructor didn't emphasize the hand over hand technique and my turns were still too wide and I keep panicking when entering an intersection . My new instructor kept pressuring me to book my road test and I knew I wasn't ready . I called Michael and told him that I really wanted to pass my road test . He scheduled me for five more lessons and he give some helpful notes on how to parallel park, how to do a U turn ,how to approach an intersection and how to do a right and left turn . After the lessons he told me that if I followed his instructions I would get my licenses. I can proudly say that Michael was right ; I did my road test on August 29 and everything that I was taught I applied to my road test and I passed . Melvin saw that when I was learning how to do a k turn and a driver yelled at me, it frightened me. My first time parking, he taught me with my eyes closed, it was crazy to me but he has his techniques. We drove all over the Bronx and at various times so that I was able to know how to maneuver in different kinds of traffic. He taught me how to time cars to merge onto the highway and how to exit. I'm a fantastic driver because of Melvin. My mother also went to him back in the 90s! I have several friends and family members who went to Melvin and passed their road test. I know other people who went elsewhere and failed their driving test, I point them into the direction of Melvin and they pass the test on the first try.
