To make a reservation it is mandatory to pay 10 euros per night and person. And then, if you cancel, even if you cancel long time in advance, you have to pay anyway! THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN ANY OTHER HÜTTE IN AUSTRIA. If you cancel in advance, you wont be charged anything. He is a skinflint and trickster!

Finishing most of my hike up to Aescher, I was ready for a beer and brat! The meal and the view was a tasty reward after my long uphill walk! The patio view is beautiful and relaxing. The food was A-OK, but I would definitely go for the Cheese Rosti (Hashbrown) w/ Bratwurst and a Lager next time. The cost wasn't too bad for Switzerland they also provided menu with English! Overall, Berggasthaus Aescher is more cozy and quaint than Berggasthaus Ebenalp. I'm a fan!

I recently stayed in this mountain hut on a 6 day Alpine Crossing. I would definitely rate this as…read moreone of the better mountain huts I have stayed in. The sleeping accommodation was comfortable, the washroom facilities adequate and spotlessly clean, the food and service good and friendly in spite of the fact that the hut was hopelessly overful. The hut is designed for max 250 guests and had to accommodate 390 on the night. Under mountain rules no hiker can be turned away. Under the circumstances the staff did a great job. Needless to say the scenery is breathtaking and well worth the climb from Oberstdorf which took us about 4 hours.
