You know the menu before you even see it. Anich is, in my opinion, the very best of them all. Be aware that the food is HEAVY and served in large portions. If you order one of the classic popular meat dishes (roast pork, schnitzel, goulash, etc) you should either be very hungry, prepared to share, or willing to ask for a takeout box. It's a ton of food and it's all stellar. I'm trying and failing to think of something we ordered there that was less than delicious and I can't. The service was not especially fast but I don't mark this kind of restaurant down for that because the meal is supposed to be a slow one. The local wine selection is excellent as is the beer. During a very crowded time you may be asked to share a large table with strangers or so we heard, but in my visits I never saw this happen. It was winter. Summer may be a different story. The building is lovely as are the several dining rooms. If you're looking for a light meal go elsewhere. If you want to be stuffed with dumplings, meat, gravy, and all that great stuff don't go elsewhere.

They serve dinner around 8pm onwards so & lunch menu is from 3pm. You'll need to make reservations for dinner as it gets very busy. During lunch they have full bar available, small lunch menu and a DJ playing schlager music the entire time. Even on a Monday afternoon, the DJ was blasting those tunes loud and enthusiastically trying to get the crowd singing. Which usually occurs after afew drinks anyway. The menu is traditional Austrian, so get right into it because it is delicious and homemade style. For lunch we ordered currywurst, bbq spare ribs with garlic bread and ham crust. The dinner vibe was a little less disco Germanic music and more relaxed but buoyant and busy. I think we over ordered but ah well. We had crunchy winter salad, double boiled beef broth with fried cheese dumplings, classic bacon & onions flame tarte (ham crust), pork belly with sauerkraut and roasted potatoes and crispy skin boneless chicken leg with spinach "spätzle" and mushrooms. Honestly no bad dish, everything was top notch only problem was the food was so filling it was difficult to consume it all. Luckily we took our time and managed somewhat. The ambience of this restaurant is cool, Austrian, joyful and drinking. Definitely try some of the local Austrian beers. We enjoyed this place alot and definitely will return upon next visit. Another had the much room beef special and it was apparently delicious too. Not as strong a flavour as mine but still very good. We also had the spinach cheese balls too, which were also liked, it was very tasty but quite a heavy dish, to be expected. We also had the cheese spatzle dish, it was really nice too. To top it off we had the apple strudel and the sxhmarne dessert. Both were good. We liked the schmarne the best. It was liked and even a little crunchy too. The sauces were very good and not sweet. That time was a full blown dinner outing, complete with local Austrian food, and quasi-polka/top 40 (!) band, and some lovely drunk Russians who were kind enough to share their vodka. This time, it was just the two of us trekking up the hill which seemed especially steep on this cloudy, snowy, chilly day. But well worth the hike once inside where we were greeted with Weissbier and local Austrian red wine. We split a cheese and ham sandwich, and a sausage with sauerkraut. Both were good; a review slanted somewhat by the fact that we were cold, tired and starving! But it's a great hike, and a great reward for making it up the hill! A must do if you're in the area. By the way, going down the hill is a lot faster. Some rent toboggans and make the 40 minute journey in about 5 minutes flat!

Outdoor terraces allow you to stop by for a drink or to have lunch. The indoor rooms are very warm and cozy for a perfect dinner with friends or a romantic evening with your partner. The dishes are very well presented and range from tipical South tyrolean to mediterranean and international. The wine list is interesting and has a choice of very good quality wines. A wide range of local producers but also wines from other italian regions. Interesting tip: they brew their own beer. You reach Saxifraga from the Tappeiner Promenade or from the long/steep steps that start behind the absides of the Duomo Cathedral in town. Don't be discouraged by the steps. The restaurant and the view are worth the climb ;)
