We reserved a 2025 blue jeep with one touch sky roof. Spendy, but we counted it as a way to fully enjoy the lush landscape around us. The one touch sky roof feature was absolutely fantastic. We could easily switch between buttoned up and fully open top as we ventured out between rain showers. I highly recommend this car rental option for being able to rent the exact vehicle you want, without having to guess your luck with the phrase "or similar". Cons: Being a unique car rental company, without long lines or disappointments to start your vacation, I will say it took a fair amount of trust to rely on the good word of the company that things would go as promised. There is zero in person contact at pick up or drop off. You pick up and drop off in a deserted parking lot away from the airport, closer to the cruise ships, using a lockbox. The uber ride airport to lot and reversed at the drop off was less than $40 total. We had one person get the car and pick up the others and all luggage. It was not a far distance, but not walkable. Lucky for us the rental was exactly as hoped for and we would repeat the experience if we are lucky enough to visit Kauai in the future. For those wondering why there are no recent (2025) reviews, I'll say there isn't an easy way to leave a review on their website right now.

The car inside was dirty, and the seats were dirty. They just had a storm so I'm assuming the people that had it before us probably went to the beach before us? Not sure but I can see why no one was waiting for Budget, everyone was using the other rental companies. Also, there is no one checking the vehicle when you leave or return, the car was already scratched up so I took lots of photos and videos before I left to make sure they don't charge me for extra charges. They wanted proof of insurance which the standard car rental companies never ask me for. I submitted it and didn't hear back. After submitting my insurance policy I literally heard nothing back. When arriving, they closed early so we were diverted to Budget. We arrived late, but there were only two people in front of us when we arrived. It took 20 minutes to get to the front and another 10 to 15 to get the rental situated. We went outside and waited with other people who had the same long wait, who were now waiting for a vehicle. After about 20 minutes, we went in to ask about our car and the counter person realized the other employee left and had not brought cars to us and others. We got ours first in front of others, and there was no check out. It stunk of diaper. Oh my! It had stains on back seat and trunk. But we were tired (10pm ish in Kauai) so about 2am for us and we did not want to wait again. We suffered this car and considered returning every day, but we were too busy, the smell subsided a lot (we left cracked windows and cleaned seats when not raining). I should add there were many little damages on the vehicle when we picked up. And we took pics of everything, including undercarriage damage I noticed the next day. When time to return, we arrived and got in line and handed keys over pretty quickly with about 10 other vehicles. Where is the Shuttle!! we waited and waited with others. The terminal is not far, but have there was no visible sidewalk, and a fence and landscape between. We asked and about 20 minutes after asking probably 30 minutes total we got a shuttle to stop and take us to terminal. Only good thing was staff, like most islanders, were chill and eventually were helpful. We were never hassled, billed or questioned about the condition of the vehicle which I know can vary by airports. I will just say my airport and rental car experience was so bad I really would question returning to Kauai. I think they are way overdue for a better terminal and rental car access, which seems like an after thought put into the larger parking lot.

I first spoke with Heidi about pricing and available cars. Every time I called, she told me to call back because the owner wasn't there. Apparently no one can book a rental unless the owner is present, which seems like a huge red flag for a rental business. After about my fifth phone call, Heidi told me the owner still wasn't back and that they "most likely" wouldn't have any cars available for my trip...which is still a month away. A few days later I called again, hoping to finally speak with the owner. Instead, I got Terry. I honestly don't know how she works in customer service. During the call she actually said things like, "Ugh," and, "I can't do this right now. Call back when the owner is here." I was completely shocked. Can't do what? Your job? Two days later, I finally reached the owner. I explained how unprofessional Terry had been, and he literally laughed and said, "Well, yeah. No worries, I'm back now." There was no apology or concern whatsoever. I also explained that Heidi had originally quoted me $420 for a week, then later said they probably wouldn't even have cars available. The owner laughed again and said, "No, we have cars." Then he informed me the rental would actually be $600 instead of the $420 I'd been quoted. After that conversation, I came here and read multiple reviews from customers who said they were quoted one price and charged significantly more when they picked up their rental. That was enough for me to decide to take my business elsewhere. Between the inconsistent pricing, lack of communication, rude customer service, and the owner's dismissive attitude, I wouldn't trust this company with my vacation or my money. Rent somewhere else... you'll likely save yourself a lot of frustration!

I asked for leather seats since I have a condition where I have pain with sitting if the seats are not tilted upward and solid like a leather seat. There were only upholstery seats when I went outside to look so I came back inside to talk to Chiobhan. She went and found a leather seated car that had just been returned and said it'll take 15 minutes to clean which we were fine with. When the Mazda CX-50 car came out, we got in and took off but after about a mile or two, I was having pain because the seat was not very good and didn't tilt upward. So we turned around and went back in the parking lot and I was greeted by Alan and told him I'm having pain and I'm willing to upgrade for a better car. As I was heading back to the office, I saw a higher model Mazda CX-90 AWD and sat inside it and it was really nice and the leather seats were more firm and tilted back like I needed. I took a picture of the license plate and told them this is the one I wanted. They said no problem but I need to pay an upgrade for you and I said I'm happy to. Both Chiobhan and Alan we're super friendly and no nonsense and were quick to respond and take care of business with a high-level of customer service and in a very timely manner. I drove away very happy with how I was treated and with the car. Now I'm driving around with a beautiful and comfortable higher level Mazda SUV. I just need to remember next time to order a crossover or premium SUV.
