Kalua pork lunch plate
Jennifer H.

I had Aloha Cafe bookmarked for a while. I finally got a chance to try it out. I wasn't sure what to order so I got the Kalua pork plate. They provided a generous portion of meat. I felt the plate was lacking veggies. There is some cabbage on the plate but not enough. It was just protein and carbs. I also ordered 2 spam musubis. Those were delicious as well.

I haven't been here since they changed their hours changed. They went from open most of the week to only a few days for takeout and catering so was not around when they were open. Today we were looking for breakfast, went walking around and saw on Yelp that they were open. We went in and were warmly greeted. They had a simple menu, mostly lunch items but also had off menu breakfast items as well. We got the Komai breakfast which included 2 of each meats (spam, portugues saisage, vienna sausage), corned beef hash patty, 2 eggs, 2 scoops of rice and 2 bread rolls. Big breakfast. So good.

We were referred by a friend for the catering offered by the cafe. Contact regarding the menu options was easy and clear. We made an appointment to.come taste the entrees and the portions and selections were delicious and generous for a nominal fee. We've booked them for our event, but I'll come back for lunch at the cafe. The items were wonderful!

Fruit plate.super fresh!

Delightful casual little restaurant that features delicious Hawaiian fare. Exquisitely fresh ingredients. Hubby and I loved the huge Loco Moco (couldn't finish!) , the fruit plate, and the side salad. Service was stellar. Even though they say it's "Take Out" only, there were a dozen or so well-kept tables and booths that were wonderful to sit at. Prices were super reasonable. Highly recommend.

Don't remember how I heard about this place, but I'm sure I didn't read that it's a to go place only. Which is kind of confusing because it occupies a full restaurant location with tables and chairs. The person who took my order said they mostly do catering. I did order the loco moco. As you can see by the picture it was drenched in the gravy. Really, more like a 3.5, but I rounded up. Not someplace I'd be going back to.

While I have never been to their restaurant , we did use them for catering and it was amazing. They came in, set everything up and gave it a nice Hawaiian feel. They had a floral table cloth, bamboo plates, tropical leaves as decor and more. Buffets are hit or miss, but not this one. Everyone commented how good the food was. The spam musubi and the mac salad was a huge hit and was the first to go. Numerous people came and asked if there was any more. The meat was also really good. I am not sure how the Hawaiians marinate their meat, but it is generally amazing flavor and the marinade is penetrated deep into the meat. This was no exception. Then when it was all over, they came back and helped to box up to go boxes for people and then cleaned everything up. Was amazing food, great presentation and they made it super easy for us and our guests. Highly recommend them if you need catering. Also Jennifer, the owner, will likely be on hand ensuring you get the best experience. Thank you Jennifer we appreciaete

The food is fresh and hot. Price is reasonable. It's easy place to sit down and eat for quick brunch.

Ask the Community - Aloha Café

Is this place going to stay closed until June 2023 or is Yelp misinformed?

We were there for a private party in December 2022. We are also hoping to have another private party in late February 2023. Not sure what their plans are for regular hours in 2023. Will see if I can find out additional information.

Is there full indoor dining now?

No, as of 3/26 there were only two tables just inside the entrance for indoor seating. The rest of the restaurant is still closed for seating. Take out is still an option.

Is breakfast served all day?

Yes :)

Are they open during COVID-19 says open at 8am but no one has answered phone for 30 minutes ? Or new hours?

Yes they are open. Usually by 9am

Why are they always closed? I've went before the closing time of 4pm and they're never open

On sundays they close at 2pm and every other day @3pm

Does anyone know if Aloha Cafe makes party platters?

Yes they have a catering menu and are wonderful about helping accommodate the amount based on your guest count.

Is it dog friedly?

No it's not. They only have indoor seating.

I hadn't been here in years (15, in fact, which was when my last review went up), but the line was very familiar. We shared: - Urth Farmer's Salad - Full Tuna sandwich (came with side salad which was quite sizable) Everything was super-fresh and generously portioned. More than enough for two people. If we'd known the sandwich came with a side salad we probably wouldn't have ordered a whole 'nother salad, but the farmers market salad was so good I'm glad we did! I also got an iced latte, which really hit the spot. The friendly and efficient staff expertly handled the crowds, which was sizable. We were hoping for a seat out on the patio since it was a nice day, but seating was limited so we sat at one of the small tables inside by the fireplace. It was just ok, but we had a nice time nonetheless.

The smoked salmon was silky and delicately smoky, with a clean, buttery finish that paired perfectly with the medium poached eggs. The prosciutto was thinly sliced, delicately savory, and melt-in-your-mouth tender -- adding just the right refined saltiness without overpowering the dish. Both plates were beautifully presented and generously portioned. The Rising Sun Latte was smooth and balanced, and the matcha latte was creamy and authentically earthy -- you can really taste the quality. Stylish yet relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and consistently fresh ingredients. A reliable go-to brunch spot in Downtown LA. Will definitely return!

We got the below there's, and enjoyed our time outside under the shade. $5 Rose latte and $6 feta thyme scone. $6 Hibiscus Iced Tea, and $5 Vegan Snickerdoodle cookie. My gf mentioned the seats were uncomfortable. They were definitely hard. Maybe it's a place where you're not meant to stay too long? Haha I liked that this place is away from the hustle and hustle, like your own secret white wall garden haha Theres limited seating and great for pairs. It's a small outdoor space so it's easy to hear over conversations if you sit too close? But overall, we enjoyed the items we got, service, the space and our time together. So much white, my gf said it reminded her of Greece. Be prepared to feel under-layered when entering Dover Street Market. Everyone seems to be wearing ten thousand layers here. I love the edgy and creative pieces in there! But definitely not a place within my budget to splurge at. Undercover anit-mall feeling type of boutique store? The art and style of retail display to devor is alot of fun. The restroom could be smelly as it didn't seem like there was ventilation when I visited it. The toilet paper was partially soaked? Not a very functional restroom with even it's faucet fixtures. Across the street is Lot 613 where burner Halloween parties years back when the art district didn't exist yet or at least expand so far. Great events space.
