This hotel is situated very close to the highway among an assortment of hotels in this area. I really like the decor of the hotel and the fact that there are pool tables and a bar in the lobby and also a very large market with real food. When I checked in they were actually having a Paint Night!!!! The room was spacious and i didn't hear any noise from outside which is common for me staying near a highway. There are plenty of restaurants and things to do around the hotel as well. The only minus for me was after following the AC remote directions to the T my room still wouldn't cool and it took 20 mins to figure out the air. The room was on 76 when I got there so I was about to die. Maybe have it set ambient a little cooler? read more

I am three days in to a 14 night stay and not one negative thing thing to say. The front desk customer service is amazing, the bar, lounge, gym are all conveniently located within the hotel lobby. My room was spotless and they offer a credit of $5 to the refuel station if you refuse house keeping. This is the most eco friendly hotel that I have stayed in and I will continue to book with them in the future. Staying in a Marriott down the road and was provided a gift card from that hotel to spend in the loft xyz bar. All I can say is it's way overrated. They are trying to be fancy but they serve cocktails in plastic cups and the bar tender doesn't know a thing about wines. I'm no conosaur, but a simple question about what wines they have did not warrant the response similar to if I had three heads. Looks welcoming but watch your pocket. I seen a availability at the Aloft Chesapeake and it said $98 a night on Google. I was asked for my veteran status be l have them my real ID with my veteran status and was told that wasn't good enough. I still wanted and booked a room naturally but wasn't given a receipt nor told the guesstimate on how much it would be. Once I looked at my bank account they put a $345 good on my account. Once I seen that I went right back in and cancelled the room. Here it is four days later and still my money is being held. Not to mention I called the hotel and the corporate and they weren't any help. $345 for a 3 star hotel for two nights. The oceanfront is cheaper than that at a four to five star hotel at this time of year. Not veteran friendly and they'll hold your money for over a week. read more

Smallest rooms ever. I would never want to share, or stay for very long. Far too cramped. There's a lot of compacting and shelving to create space since lofts are available. This is an extended stay type of place -- go figure. I like the partition for the vanity and the bathroom; it's a sliding mirror wall. The food is great and they play good music in the lounge. I recently attempted needed to stay in the area due to an unfortunate passing within the family. I thought as a loyalty member I would be able to use my points and cash for a last minute stay. I reviewed the property to ensure there were rooms available. I called to make a reservation and was told by reservation customer care I could not. I told them I looked yesterday and there was an option however I wanted to wait to call a day later. They told me "there are rooms available but you can not use your points or certificate." I told told the agent my certificate states "no blackout dates." Then I was told that I still could not use. My experience at this location was unacceptable. My 1st room was was dirty. There was pee on the toilet, the bed sheets had crumbs or something on it! When asked if they could send someone to clean I was told the cleaning crew wasn't available. I was moved to a different room! Still dirty!! That's when I took pictures. I called the 1800 Aloft. Recently stayed here for two nights on business- glad I finally tried out this hotel after a few other sketchy hotels on the same strip, this one is is my new go to while in Chesapeake- wish I would have found it sooner PROS- well lit hotel, clean room, friendly staff (I swear everywhere I turned someone was saying hello or asking how I was doing), easy check in/out, complimentary water/coffee in the room, good shower pressure, comfy bed, good wifi signal, lobby bar, 24 hour convenience area with quick meals and snacks, pet friendly, indoor pool and small workout area, outdoor courtyard CONS- no airport shuttle (doesn't seem like common practice in the area), no complimentary breakfast, no restaurants or gas station within walking distance Obviously the pros outweigh the cons!! and for less than $100 per night after tax :) Note: I was in town for Chicago playoff baseball and the bartender at the lobby bar put the TV and volume on my game and even stayed open later than scheduled because people were hanging out and watching the games- above and beyond service both nights- thanks for making it possible for me to enjoy my home team while on the road read more

Aloft Chesapeake is an "okay" hotel. The customer service at the front desk was great. Although, they didn't know how to use the "mobile" app to be able to use it as a key card. I opted-in on just getting a key card to make it easier on the front desk person. I was supposed to stay two nights but only lasted for the ONE night. The hotel room was very HOT, the A/C, thermostat was not working properly in my room. The Halls were dirty, the noise level in the evening was unbearable. The TV didn't work properly. I had to have my TV volume loud, so that my children couldn't hear other hear couples, or maybe several people in the other rooms having their late night extra curricular activities. Was not happy with my stay, and would opt-in to staying at another hotel. I'm all about cleanliness and comfort and this hotel wasn't there. read more

As an avid Alofter, I decided to stay here one night as I had a last minute trip to the Chesapeake area. I frequently stay at the Aloft locations in Northern VA and love them so much. This Aloft, was not what I expected at all! Lets start with the staff - RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL is all I can say. Not too sure if this is because the front desk staff all looked like they were in High School. I just wanted a room because I was so exhausted and I was given such a hassle because I did not have a reservation even though I'm a Gold SPG member! After asking (multiple times) BOTH front desk agents if a late checkout would be an issue, they ASSURED me as a SPG member it was no problem at all as I desperately need one since I had business to take care of late the next day. Got to my room and there was another surprise waiting for me - one of the blinds did not work and was rolled up so since the room was on the 1st floor, anyone outside of the hotel could walk up to my window and look right in! That was very unpleasant! Then I discover a piece of the broken shower knob in the shower!! That room should have not be available for anyone to stay in! The worst part of my stay had to be the next morning when housekeeping knocked on my door even though my "do not disturb" sign was clearly on my door as I placed it there before I went to bed! WTF!! Never in my entire life has that happened! What part of "do not disturb" did they not understand! (the housekeepers were not Hispanic either) Once I answered the door and told them I had a late checkout, I immediately get a call from the front desk asking if I told the housekeepers I had a late checkout! I explained that I requested one when I checked in and I was told that was fine. Well it was not fine because I was told that I had to check out as the hotel was full!! At that point, I was beyond livid and just checked out because I was so disgusted with the service I received and the "ghettoness" of this hotel and their guests. The decor? Legit. Bright. Modern. Cool. Hip. Vibrant. My kind of place. The design is sleek. It's the type of hotel and bar I would seek when traveling. You immediately feel cool when walking inside. You feel younger. I immediately want to buy out a room and live there. The place is everything that fits into a big city. The bathrooms? Sure, I'd love to spend 45 minutes every morning in a bathroom as cool theirs. I saw a puppy in the lobby so I assume they allow pets. I cannot remember where I experienced an Aloft before (it was a great experience years ago) but if their brand is consistent, I highly recommend a hotel like this. read more

I really would like to give up a few more stars, but I just can't. I've had the chance to visit this particular Aloft on 3 separate occasions over the last 18 months or so, and each visit points to a particular trend. First, there is no doubt that you're in a Starwood Chain/Aloft property. The hotel exhibits the same modern decor, which is both trendy and soothing. The rooms also boasts the same contemporary decor found within the common areas of the property, again, giving that relaxing feeling just by looking at the space. Standard with every Aloft is the W XYZ bar in the lobby with the normal accoutrements of a lounge area, pool table and fire place. So, all in all, this should be par with the normal look and feel of Aloft. The con in all of this is the service. Throughout all my visits, the trending item for this particular property is the service: it's hit or miss, mostly miss at best. Once and a while, you'll have a pleasant experience. I get that customer service isn't always the easiest part of anyone's job. The service isn't comparable to your typical DMV or lost luggage in any airline, but it's definitely not one of the attributes of the front office staff. We all know that first impressions are the lasting ones... you would think that a hotel chain like Aloft would make it a priority to have the front office staff to hold a higher standard in service and professionalism. There are enough pros to keep coming back, but not enough to say that this is a 3 or even 4 star establishment. read more

A nice enough hotel, but certainly nothing spectacular! It's located in Greenbrier, so this would be the perfect hotel to stay at if you're traveling and interested in being close to a mall/many different stores/restaurants. I liked the super modern feel of the hotel, from the lobby/entrance, down to the actual room itself. Upon checking in, the front desk attendant told us that the hotel was actually a "green" one and that they didn't have ice machines, but instead we could take packages of ice from a cooler downstairs for no charge. I thought that was pretty cool! Many companies talk the talk of "going green" but don't actually back it up. My stay itself was comfortable and I had no real issues with the room, which was pretty nice, although the bed was VERY firm. The shower pressure though, FABULOUS. A few things that I wasn't really fond of during my stay: - No continental breakfast! There was the option of buying breakfast items, but I prefer hotels that offer a sit down breakfast option. I wouldn't have even minded paying for something like this. - You could only come DOWN the stairs. I was staying on the second floor, so having to wait for the elevator (only one was working) each time was pretty annoying, when I could have just taken stairs if there were that option. Overall, an OK hotel that I would stay at again, but I would think about paying a few dollars more for another place that had a breakfast, stairs, etc. read more

The hotel looks nice and modern from the inside, but bewarned. The internet, not so modern at all. It may be free, but is ridiculously slow. You'd think this place still used dial-up. Our room also didn't have a fridge. What hotel doesn't have minifridges in their room? Especially one trying to keep up to date? Also, our bathroom door didn't lock. It was just a sliding door that you couldn't fully close and lock. Another thing was the temperature in the room. We had the thermostat set to 68 degrees. I woke up in a pool of sweat, and I wasn't even under the blankets overnight because of how hot it was! The room was on fire, and not in a good way! And the prices for drinks and snacks at the front desk. $1.50 for a can of soda? I can go to the walmart across the street and buy a 12 pack for $5. Or $2.50 for a bag of freaking m&ms? Came down from NOVA for the weekend for my boyfriend's hockey game and choose Aloft because it's pet friendly!! Booked my room the day prior through expedia where I checked throughly to make sure the check-in age was 18 and not 21 because I am only 20. I went to the front desk to check-in when we arrived and gave the lady my ID and she asked if I had anyone with me that was 21. I of course showed her that it said 18 years old or older to check in and her answer was "I'm not sure why these third party apps say 18 but you need to be 21". Lucky my boyfriend's hockey coach was standing there and got the room for us but if he wasn't, I would've had to find a different hotel. If you are aware that third party apps are displaying incorrect information and this issue has arisen multiple times, then don't you think you should fix the problem??? Sounds like a good management idea to me! read more

The staff were super friendly and very accommodating for me and everyone that was displaced. I have a love-hate relationship with this hotel. With my job, I stay at Hilton's a lot, but I was a Starwood guy before going over to the dark side and I find it to be a better program, so I try and stay at them where I can. I am down here a lot for work, and there are only 4 Starwood properties in Tidewater and this one is surely the cheapest. Things I love about this hotel: * The gym is the best hotel gym I've been to for a hotel of this price point. * The bar here is lively and fun and attracts non-hotel guests which is cool * The outdoor space is cool and the rooms are different. * The glass shower is cool, and they have cool W-lite products. So why the 3 stars? It's because of all the little stuff. They charge for coffee, which seems really odd, even though I never pay and no one asks me to. The housekeeping is plagued by problems, leading to inconsistent service like getting a competing hotel's soap in my bathroom (Clarion) and dirty hallways. And after awhile, the rooms do feel small. I like this place and will continue to come here, but it's got enough small stuff wrong that it stands out and not in a good way. read more

If you are looking for a bed to sleep in and a shower this is your place. then you don't care if the TV doesn't work right the air conditioning doesn't get the room below 71 the roof in the bathroom leaks the bed is a futon like mattress thrown on a frame. Yep European type living at its best. While the lobby is nice the rest of the hotel looks like it was designed for a glow in the dark fun house. They advertise that they have breakfast for guests. Sure they do. Not complimentary like most hotels and what they do have is an 8 dollar breakfast sandwich. Very disappointed in our stay and won't ever be coming back to these hotels again. read more

Why not? If you're traveling to the Norfolk/VA Beach area for business or with a friend, this is a cool place to stay. I was concerned that I was the only guest when I checked in because there weren't many cars and I didnt see anyone else in the lobby. When I returned from dinner there were a couple guests playing pool, having drinks, and watching the game (Go Phillies!!!). My room reminds me of the W but with a younger feel. Its kind of like a really upscale dorm room. The showers are nice and big and there are a lot of cubbies for your things in the bathroom. My rate was under $100/night and I had a $10 credit for breakfast. There was a pretty good selection of quick food including warm breakfast sandwiches. This is in a hotel/corporate office area and there are chain restaurants close-by. I drove to Norfolk, Portsmouth and VA beach very easily from here. One thing I would recommend is to definitely have gps in this area because these highways are crazy. Its very easy to miss your exit. Im going to say moderate on the price because I dont know if I just got an extra special deal. My rate was definitely inexpensive. read more

Aloft is a hotel for the trendy people of America who are willing to sacrifice space and good dining for trendy vibes. I loved my 2 day stay at the Aloft hotel. Even with the name I was still surprised by the size of the room a king sized bed, tv and desk on one side of the partition wall and a small closet, mini fridge, luxurious shower and bathroom (with a sliding glass door) on the other side. I had many issues with the tv and adjacent aux box to connect music too but eventually figured it out on my own. The shower is divine, however one should wait to use the sink after flushing the toilet as I found the sink started to gurgle a little after doing that. The downstairs bar and lounge area were nice and I could see it being packed in the warm weather months. Overall I would definitely come again just at another time. read more

As a Marriott property, I was expecting a lot more. But at MINIMUM I was expecting air conditioning in Virginia... in July. The hotel itself was clean, and the amenities seemed new. It's setup to attract a young crowd; the lobby is furnished with a bar and pool table. However, much of the people there were large families lured by the price. The part that really was terrible however was that although each room had a thermostat with instructions, you cannot set the temperature below 68. That wouldn't be a big deal if the rooms were actually 68 degrees. Marriott elite members are put at the top floor and heat rises AND the AC doesn't work. When mentioned to staff they said they would reset the AC, however it still would not go below 68 and the room was still nowhere near 68. In fact, the hallway thermostat was set at 62 and the thermometer read 81 at 9pm and 80 at 7am. Those temperatures are just unacceptable, especially during the summer in a southern state. Smaller points: to get ice you had to go to the lobby and get it from pre-bagged ice and the "patio" area they have is just an open courtyard with a few chairs. So that area is often adorned by people sitting on coolers and smoking like it's the front of a Motel 6. All in all, I will not be returning and I'm the utmost disappointed. read more

I really wanted to like this hotel after hearing great things about it. The vibe given from when we first got there was off. We did get there a little before check in time and as soon as I stated I was here to check in there was snippy attitude given saying no rooms are ready for any check in yet not even early. The way it was said right away turned me off. Second issue which seems to be an issue was THERE WAS NO AC and not just in my room but in quiet a few rooms. We were in town for a wedding and this was the hotel we all decided to stay at. When called downstairs the lady who I think also checked us in was rude on the phone stating they were booked for the night couldn't switch rooms etc we can have some one check it... you know what ended up happening.. we were given a box fan literally a f****ing box fan. The next day I went down mid-afternoon before we headed to the wedding to talk to the manager and she told me I could be moved to the sister property. It's already 2:30 the next day I am heading to a wedding in an hour and leaving at noon tomorrow I don't have time to switch. Ultimately ended up getting one night free and we stayed for two nights. The kicker was the check out process. The manager stated they would be there at noon for check out upon arrival she wasn't so I calmly told the front desk is the manager here I spoke with her yesterday to discuss this issue etc immediately she jumped at me saying calm down don't attack me and just walked away. The staff here is rude the hotel has NO AC's in a lot of rooms. YOU ARE WARNED! The place does seem some what cleaned but not enough for being a new hotel. I come down to VA quiet often will I stay here again absolutely not. You couldn't pay me to stay here again. I hope they get it together for the future of the hotel. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel for 10 days while visiting friends and family in VA (we're from Washington state). We found the hotel on either Hotels.com or Priceline, I can't remember which. Since we were going to be staying for so long, we refused to look up hotels that were any less than 3 stars, because we wanted to make sure we were comfortable. When we saw the reviews and the pictures, we were hooked if a little wary, just because it was so modern and we typically prefer a more homey feel. We got a GREAT deal on Priceline- $90 a night! Compared to other 3 star hotels in the area, it was a steal. When we arrived we were blown away. It was just so... cool! Haha. We spoke with the friendly night desk gal (it was about midnight or so) and let her know that our baggage would be coming by any time between then and 6 am due to catching an earlier flight from NJ to VA. We left to get some food and when we got back (around 12:45) the baggage was already there. We were very impressed when we got to our room- it was very spacious, the bed and TV were large, and the shower was perfect for the 2 of us. We went to the bar a couple of times while staying here, which was a lot of fun. We mentioned that my boyfriend had just turned 21, so we got a couple of shots on the house. The reasons I give this hotel only 4 stars are- 1. the alarm. We set a wake-up call by phone (it was an automatic system) for 8 am. My friend called at 10:15 am, and we were scrabbling around to get ready because our phone never rang to wake us up! The second time, we used the television alarm. Well, guess what? The TV never turned on to wake us up. The THIRD time, we actually went to the front desk and asked for a wake-up call in person. NO CALL THE NEXT MORNING! We were pissed off. We were later told, "oh yeah, the alarm system on the phone doesn't work." Well thanks for letting us know sooner! We did get free food from the little market area because we complained to the manager. We used my cell phone alarm from that point on. 2. We had my best friend and her 2 kids stay over one night, and it just didn't work. I would never recommend this hotel to a family, because our previously spacious room was just too cramped and awkward with 3 adults and 2 toddlers in it. I went here for a paint nite event and had a really great time. It was one of the nicest hotels I have been to in a while. It was so modern and hip looking. They had a middle area for smokers. Their bar area was really nice and well stocked. The bathrooms are clean although the tiles need a good scrubbing. The grout was turning black in places. The gym looked amazing and the pool area was open until 11pm. We tried the hummus and chips which was actually really good. The chips were flavorful. There are a ton of hotels surrounding this area, but this one really stands out. The parking is a little bit confined because there are at least three hotels next two each other, but it was a Thursday night so I found a spot up front. I wish I could have seen the rooms, but based on the lobby alone I would highly recommend it to others. read more

This hotel's initial appearance is very impressive. They went to great lengths to stand out from other hotels and do so very well. From the lobby to the rooms, everything is definitely unique. We actually stayed here twice. Now for the potentially bad: This place could be much better if they would tighten up a few details: 1. The one-inch gap at the bottom of the room door that allows you to hear EVERYTHING in the hallway. 2. If your room is near the elevators (ours was across the hall) you will hear the mechanics of the elevator system all night long. 3. The insulation between the rooms is not fantastic; we could hear our neighbors raising and lowering their blinds like they were in the same room! 4. In the lobby is a bar/lounge. With that said, the lobby was very busy and loud when we arrived around 1130pm. Some local patrons actually stayed in the hotel after having their fun downstairs in the lobby which in turn, contributed to the noise in the hallway until the wee hours of the morning. All in all, a neat place to stay. I would have given this place 5 stars if the noise was limited to what was inside my room and if the bar in the lobby was limited to people staying in the hotel. read more

First, my review will have nothing to do with Covid. However let me touch on that first. Much like the rest of Hampton Roads, it seems like masks are a "please do this but we won't kick you out if you walk in and stay in the lobby watching tv and playing pool without one" type of ordeal. Yes, that's rather specific isn't it. The little breakfast bowls they said they had B.C. (before Covid) looked really good though, and I wish I could have had a chance to try them. No fault on the place though despite that. They have an alternative of sandwiches but at $4 for a breakfast sandwich I can go get off the dollar menu, that's a no go. Nice try though. Now onto the rooms. I've stayed here twice. First on the 2nd floor, and this time on the first floor. So on with it: 1. The doors, while they seem very thick, are in fact not. You will hear everybody that walks by. You will hear everybody that talks in the hallway. You will hear every bark. 2. The beds are very VERY comfortable. Pillows too. 3. I love the modern room style. It's very ultramodern as a matter of fact, up to and including the sliding bathroom shoji door. I personally like it, however the 2nd time I stayed the shoji was a little on the hard to push & pull side. 3. There is no fan in the bathrooms. 4. There is no microwave in the rooms, it's in the lobby. 5. The television is a nice size, having built in Netflix and YouTube, for those of us who despise regular tv, and the only bad thing is that the televisions don't swivel. So if you're at the desk area you don't get to really see it well. 6. There is no dresser. That's not a deal breaker for me but for some it may be a surprise. 7. The staff is very nice. They are very personable, and I've had zero issues. Especially the front desk lady who is there currently, she is super courteous. All in all I like the place and would rate it higher if not for the door sound issue. This place is rather busy and it would be nice to not have to wait until the entire building drank themselves to sleep before I could get rest too. While the rates are fantastic, I may end up going to the actual Marriott instead, just for peace and quiet. read more

5 stars if they had room service! This is a legit 4-star hotel. This is probably the nicest thing in a 30 mile radius minus the Buffalo Wild Wings around the corner. The hotel foyer is like a boushy DC club. The staff is friendly and the room is straight up baller. Flat screen hanging on the wall, modern furniture, indoor pool, and decent gym. Did I mention that this SPG hotel has free WIFI! In all the SPG hotels I've stayed in, this is the first with wifi. Their lotion/facewash is even better than Westin hotels. Also close to typical suburbia stores: Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc. Shopping mall is across the street as well. I been wanting to see what this hotel chain and stay was like oh but after staying there I could have waited forever! The place was not clean and nonchalant staff. Unfortunately as I was checking in someone was being wheeled out by the morgue, a person had passed away! And the police was there ..So I asked was there any foul play considering I would be there with my children! the front desk folks barely answered and were nonchalant! I'm like OK...bizarre. So anyway the pool was dirty, not enough towels in the room, stains on the tiles (cuz the floor was not mopped) then I was running a few minutes behind check out and the cleaning lady knocked hard on Theodore rudely saying check out time is 11!! I am a Marriott Platinum Elite for life but this was my first time staying at this new Marriott property. They made a big deal about being COVID safe and even made me sign up to use the gym so they could limit the people in there at one time. And in spite of the big sign on the window saying Please Wipe Equipment Before and After Use, they did not have any wipes or towels to clean with. And just like many other Marriott hotel gyms they had weights missing (who steals a 45 lb dumbbell?). And they only had 1 Perfect Push-up device. Since I don't do 1 arm pushups this was of no help. They have 2 ellipticals, one was in use and so I hopped on the other one, which was sitting less than a foot away, only to find out the electronics did not work. So I just pedaled away with no speed or workout info. Pretty disappointing experience overall. And this was my first business trip in over a year. read more

Everything was good until the deal breaker. Walls in room are papers thin. You can hear everything. You can your next door watching TV, talking, opening /closing blinds, pretty much everything. If you plan on sleeping in, forget it. Woken up at 6 AM by next door and trust me, they were not loud at all. If you want privacy/ if you want to avoid listening to other PeopleS business...... SKIP IT! Also no ice machine. Rooms are decente but hearing it all is a deal breaker for me. Was in room 525.. Note :they make you sign waivers which explains no partying, loud noises in room. Now i know why. But in my case, there was no parties or anyone trying to be loud. Just being normal but still you can hear next door. read more

We used SPG points to stay here as we had something to do in the area. Upon checking in, the two working behind the desk, checking guests in were very friendly and helpful. We got checked in very quickly. The lobby area was really eclectic and "funky" looking - we liked it! A bar and pool table were in the lobby, something we didn't expect from a smaller hotel like this. They also make warm food there too, which was nice. The décor throughout was nice and ultra-modern. The room was clean and just OK. Beds weren't too comfy, pillows were foam and too hard and we could hear too much in the hallway, like a fight in the middle of the night which woke us up. So, we did get a very poor night's sleep, which is why we wanted to give a higher rating, but couldn't. Check-out was quick, easy and fast and the staff was pleasant. We did decide to hang out in the lobby during the evening, play pool and enjoy some wine and that was very nice. We were surprised to see many others doing the same thing in fact. Overall, we'll most definitely return to an Aloft when the option comes up again, based on where we need to go, etc. read more
