I decided to break up my Outer Banks trip with a stay at this property. After driving nearly 300 miles in Hurricane Helene's rain and wind, I finally arrived. I was warmly greeted by their team at check in and was in my room in no time. Room was clean and comfortable and pretty quiet considering how close we were to the interstate. Interestingly, liners were staged for use in trash cans but not in the cans. Even more interesting is the inability to connect to their wifi. Not too big of a deal as I had nothing pressing to take care of, but as a Bonvoy member I was unable to access despite my credentials. To be fair, I realize internet services may have been impacted by SC tornadoes spawned by Hurricane Helene. Breakfast was abundant and good. Eggs, sausage, sweet waffles and other items made the meal good and satisfying. The best part of the stay? The SpringHill Suites Team! Cheerful and accommodating! I'd return to this property. read more

I've stayed at a lot of Marriott properties, and honestly... this was probably my least favorite. The rooms feel outdated, and in my specific room (509), there were no accessible outlets near the bed. They had USB ports in the lamps, but it's 2026, who's still using those older USB plugs like that? That alone was frustrating. To be fair, the room itself was clean, but stepping outside into the hallway was a different story. There was what looked like the craziest stain in the carpet, not fresh, but clearly the aftermath of a rough night for somebody. The wild part is we had to walk past it for five days, so whatever cleaning happened clearly didn't fully take care of it. On top of that, the hallways had a light marijuana smell that lingered throughout the building. They do have a pool, but it had to be drained twice during our stay. It also didn't help that kids were running around unaccompanied, not just in the pool, but also in the gym, which ended up getting trashed too. And honestly, calling it a pool is being generous. It's just big enough to qualify, and even then it feels like the bare minimum, closer to a kiddie pool than anything worth using. Now let's talk breakfast, because this one was all over the place. Day one: sausage, oatmeal, boiled eggs. Day two: scrambled eggs and dry turkey sausage. Day three: scrambled eggs, thick cut bacon, corned beef hash. By day five, I just skipped it. And yes, there were waffles every day if that's your thing, but I don't eat those. Honestly, I don't understand why they couldn't just keep it simple, eggs, potatoes, and a meat. Some of the options felt random, and at times, the food just wasn't good. One thing I will give them, the staff was great. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, professional, and check-in was quick and smooth. That was easily the best part of the stay. The location is solid too, right by a mall and plenty of food options, which made things convenient. Overall, for the price, it wasn't terrible, but I'd definitely pay a little more next time to stay somewhere else. It didn't ruin the trip, but it also didn't feel like a true Marriott experience. I have been locked out of my room twice in less than 5 days. The first time I was locked out , the batteries to the door had to be changed. The second time I had to wait an entire hour before the "head engineer" even came to fix the issue. This is more than unacceptable and I would not stay at this hotel ever again. read more

We stayed here on our way to the outer banks in North Carolina. I was with my 2 sons and wife. These times are much different with COVID. We already had vacation paid for so we decided to go. This is a very nice hotel. The beds are comfortable and quite clean. Although my wife found a fruit loop under the couch. That was not reassuring. They did have coffee in the morning which was appreciated. Our biggest complaint is that the front desk staff were not wearing masks. One person had it hanging below her mouth and the other simply chose not to wear one. The hotel did seem less crowded then usual. Current morning breakfast service is suspended but they are offering wrapped breakfast sandwiches. The bottom line is this was a nice stay in a quiet hotel. We would stay here again for future family trips. read more

The GM at this establishment needs to learn how to respect and appreciate her employees. "penny" seems to think its ok to down talk employees and push blame off onto them when she makes an error. OMG. Where do I start. This is not a great let alone good Marriott property. Check in was ok but when we got to the room OMG. Strong smell of smoke and a blunt butt was left in the room. The sofa badly stained, the bathroom had dirty towels on the floor and the bed looked like someone was sleeping in it. The carpet dirty the halls looked like they have not been vacuumed. So we asked for another room and now the heat doesn't work clear as day on the thermostat change filter. The mirror dirty. The list just goes on. Going to ask for my stay to be returned. I was never communicated of the outage until I called the front desk. The front representative concurred with it being out and offered another room and/or points be added to my account. My flight was early so I declined to change room and accepted getting point for inconvenience. I checked my account and didn't receive the extra points, which I called the hotel today and they said they will investigate and call back. Yet to get a call back from hotel. read more

This place was not good. I stayed at this hotel for 14 days. I had to switch rooms because of a roach in the bathroom. The second room the shower curtain had mold and red stains on them. Also the rooms just didn't feel clean. I did notice mini blood stains on the sheets. The staff was very nice and the gym wasn't bad. But overall I wouldn't stay here ever again. I had an awesome stay at this hotel last weekend! ! My only complaint...where is the hot tub???? I was so looking forward to a hot soak after my intense workout in the Fitness center. Nevertheless, everything else was great! ! The Fitness center is open 24 hours, while the pool is available from 6am to 10pm. Those are awesome hours there! ! You can swim before breakfast and before checkout. Breakfast is included in the stay and it includes hot and cold selections. There's something for everyone. And checkout is at noon. So for breakfast: waffles, muffins, cereal, oatmeal, pork sausage, scrabbled eggs, bread, bagels, donuts, juices, coffee and tea bags...all the fixings are present too. As a suggestion, turkey sausage or more fruit options. Nevertheless, all are sure to find at least one item to enjoy. The room was petite, but cute for the three of us. However, the beds were a bit too soft to my liking. We stayed in the 2 bed room with the sofa bed. Everything is all out in the open. Meaning, there is no door that separates the bedroom from the sitting room or the bathroom area. The only doors present are the front door and bathroom door. Therefore, if you entertain company be sure that you're presentable when you come out the bathroom. The toilet and shower bath combo are enclosed, while the one bowl sink is on the outside. There are two closets, a desk with a chair, as mentioned, a sofa bed with a mini tabls, a mini refrigerator, microwave, sink and a coffee pot. Pretty much all you need in a room...right. Oh yeah, there's a swivel flat screen also. While on the swivel, you can watch TV from the beds or the sofa area, but not both at the same time. The hotel is clean on the inside and outside. I constantly saw the clean up crew working. That's a good thing. The front desk staff was pleasant all weekend. Cassandra and Raeven made sure we were good at all times. As a bonus, we were able to watch the superbowl game in the hotel lobby while feasting on food provided by the hotel. Bites included: taco salad, nachos and cheese and salsa, hot dogs, chips, wings, and raw veggies. Lemonade was available while bottled beer was sold for $1.00. This was a nice gesture for all registered guests. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. The hotel is amongst a street filled with other hotels. It's also in an area where shopping is walking distance away. Or a short five minutes if you're driving. This area is deemed as the greenbrier section of Chesapeake. A great area of the city. It is located in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, so there are plenty of places nearby to eat and shop. The hotel has an indoor pool downstairs and a microwave/mini fridge in the room. The bed is pretty comfy & there are pretty decent cable channels. I have stayed here many times. The room this time was not the cleanest, but it wasn't the worse. read more

Staff were polite, beds were very comfortable. You can tell they've tried to update the rooms to look more modern, and at first glance it looks very nice. That's where the compliments end. AC was locked at 74 degrees. Instead of fixing, they gave me a fan. It's hot as hell here. The FRIDGE doesn't work unless you manually click the "Quick Chill" button inside it, meaning it works for 30 mins then quits. All my stuff went bad. The SHOWER was also locked at one temperature- a little over scalding. TRASH was left on the floor and in the drawers, along with spills in the fridge and rust in the shower. I don't know what their maintenance & cleaning crews are doing, but it's definitely not working at this hotel. It could be so nice, too. Pros: Front Desk was nice and gave great customer service. My room was clean. Elevators and Ice Machines worked. The outlets in the room worked. Cons: The shower was leaking from behind the wall and ceiling. Made a mess in the bathroom because of this leak. The towel rack was rusted. There is no fan in the bathroom. The store that they had inside of the hotel did not have water. They did not even have complementary water in the room. The channels on the TV did not have a clear picture. The stay was not bad for one night but I wouldn't have want to stay more than one night. They need to refresh their upgrades because the plumbing isn't right. read more

Management has yet to respond after repeated attempts at contacting them (Chevella King) + posting a negative trip advisor review and after contacting Marriott. That is unacceptable. It pains me to write this. As a Titanium elite member with over 150 nights last year with Marriott. This has been the third time I have stayed at this property over the last 6 months. I have stayed all over the world in Marriott property's and this one is close to my office. I'm just going to come out and say this about the property, but the staff is racist against white people. Under observation many times, from the front desk staff. When I check in, walk by the desk to come in or head out for the day not one greeting. Not even a acknowledgment of being a titanium elite member, I'm not trying to be on a high horse but I do spend a lot of money and time with the chain. While even sitting in the lounge area at various times not one greeting towards white people coming and going. But if a African American person comes in they go out of the way with a smile or some kind of small talk. This is a culture thing that the staff here has in a downward spiral in basic customer service. You can not convince me other whys the staff is not, but the perspective from a guest over a course of months tells me what is really going on. The rooms aren't the cleanest, but they work. The ac is not cold, but works. The elevators are slow, but they work. The property has all the basics but need to improve on the things that make is a good property. But has along way to go to make it a great property because of the views of the staff. Look in realize this isn't the JW, but a simple hello changes perception. read more

I arrived on 4/15/2022 @ around 5:00pm and Ms. Justine checked me and my daughter into room 203. My daughter and I arrived and entered into the room before we retrieved our belongings from the vehicle. the door was difficult to open and took extreme pressure to close back. We noticed the following issues: the double beds looked as if someone had laid in them, lack of towels and washcloths, especially when at 5:52, cst I requested extra of and it was confirmed as completed, but it was obviously not. We went straight down and to the front desk and notified this information to Ms. Justine. She recommended changing our room to 315. We entered and inspected and found the following: black stains on the carpet near the beds, pillows without pillow cases, chair pillow missing, a lot of hair in the shower and bathroom floor. The shower was wet as if someone had just taken a shower, which means the housekeeping staff was aware of this, because a new shower mat was hanging inside of the shower. I Immediately cleaned the room and bathroom before and after I returned to the room from meeting with family as this was a 13 hour drive for us both and we had never been to Virginia at all. When I came into the hotel, I noticed one employee dressed in uniform attire & the other two wore a hoodie and a sheer sleeve blouse. The employee in uniform was named David - Manager on Duty (MOD)and also the night auditor, due to me noticing phase 1 of the night auditing process aligned on the counter. I notified him of the room issues and showed him proof. He apologized and viewed my information on the computer, & followed up with that there isn't anything he could do about my room rate, but that he may give points for the inconvenience. I then requested the General Managers' (GM) and the assistant General Managers' information. David (MOD) stated that he's not sure if the GM could do anything because he's an interim General Manager. He gave me the Assistant General manger's information and Front Desk Manger's contact information. David (MOD) also confirmed that he himself could not help with the room rate. I am writing you both demanding that my room rate is adjusted accordingly, due to me having to clean your rooms for your trained housekeeping staff, in which they are paid to do so. I'm here to relax and visit family not become a housekeeper. read more

We booked this hotel for one night on our way to OBX. We stayed here last year and liked it for the trundle bed for our kids. When we got to the room I noticed a couple of ants in the bathroom it didn't think much of it. We went to dinner and were gone for about an hour. When we returned I noticed about 10 ants in the bathroom area which I killed. I called the front desk to ask for a different room but they were fully booked, she was going to send someone up to spray the ants. Before that even happened we saw ants in the bed. At that point we grabbed our stuff and went to the front desk and informed them we wouldn't be spending the night. It did take a few tries over 2 days but I finally spoke to a manager who refunded our money. read more

Up-to-date and clean hotel with great customer service. Located right next to a mall, plenty of restaurants, stores, etc. Also, right off of the highway exit and only 15 minutes from Downtown Norfolk. The open parking lot made it great for my travel needs. This was one of the better Marriot properties in the area, as it looked updated and offered fresh-looking bathrooms, appliances and West Elm decor. The bed was comfy, but I actually fell asleep on the couch one night and slept well! I later discovered the couch was made to be a bed, and also had a slide-out bed at the bottom. Therefore, the room comfortably can sleep four people for a little over $100 a night (with free breakfast). Breakfast was standard, but the area was clean and the staff was awesome at asking was everything okay or did I need anything. Overall, I had a great weekend stay for work and would recommend this property over others in the area. read more

Overall a very good stay at a very good price. The rooms were very clean and that is always a plus of course. The lobby and exterior of the hotel was also well kept. The breakfast served was great and surprised me at the spread that was offered. A very hearty meal to get your day started. The hotel is in a great location next to a plethora of shopping places and restaurants. An extra bonus was that this hotel invested in good workout equipment. This is one of the worst Marriotts I've stayed in. From the onset we (my wife & I) were greeted with the most miserable night shift front desk clerk. The breakfast is nothing to write home about. It's standard hotel fare. The standard off and semi slimy eggs with turkey sausage or some other meat option. The rooms were clean and in decent shape. The repair work and remodeling does However look like a weekend warrior did it. Bad patches in the plaster, missing corner bead, sloppy paint trimming. The thermostat only seemed to work on 80 degrees which gave you the feel of 70. Some rooms such as ours are situated above the hotels condense center. If there is a party you might as well go down and join in because you will hear it until it's over. And no the front desk won't understand why that's not okay. Other odds and ends. The housekeeping staff while we were there left a trail of bits of garbage up and down the hallway. Overall not impressed and not Marriott quality. read more

We were impressed the moment we walked into the lobby and were greeted at the front desk. The clerk was friendly, engaging and jovial. The suite was clean and modern with everything you would expect to have in a suite style hotel. The heat/ac system was easy to adjust and was whisper quiet. WiFi speeds are great. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The shower stall was large and the water temperature & pressure were perfect. Breakfast buffet was well stocked and the hot food was hot, unlike so many other hotel free breakfast buffet. While we didn't use the indoor pool or workout room, they looked clean and well maintained. Please note that when checking in and you are required to read and sign their "no partying" agreement. I heartily recommend this hotel when you are in the Chesapeake area. read more

Pros: The bed and pillows were super comfortable, the decor was modern and looked nice, breakfast was good with a variety of options, and the staff was extremely friendly. Cons: How in the world does a "suites" not have a freezer in the room?! The fridges were a teeny tiny little fridge only that barely worked. You had to press a button for it to chill to a regular fridge temperature and that only last for 2 hours at a time. Fail. This was completely useless and I wasn't able to pack my lunches during my time there with no way to freeze my cold packs. The AC was stuck on one temperature that I couldn't adjust. Also, the thermostat was mounted on the wall at the foot of the bed and had a bright obnoxious green light that stayed on all the time. Why is that facing the bed and why does a thermostat have a bright static light on it? The room waffled between cold one night and very hot the next. The light in the bathroom went out half way through my stay too. Overall my stay was "ok." I would never stay here on my own dime though. Thankfully work paid for this stay. read more

The main floor is nice and modern, very large space with lots of area to sit. The pool is on the dirtier side, could definitely use some scrubbing but a the pool area itself is nice. The outdoor patio is okay, seats are very worn and seem like they could use new cushions. My room experience was not the best, did not enjoy the fact that I had to deal with ants. Overall I would not recommend staying here and I would not stay here again, especially not for 184$ for a night. read more

My wife and I travel to this area about 6 times a year or so. We have stayed in many hotels in the area and have stayed here at the Springhill suites at least 2 times before. Something seems to have caused it to go downhill. First we found an empty beer can in the room, some other trash and a partially eaten mint stuck to the desk. Secondly, one elevator was out of service for our whole stay. As a former hotel engineer myself, I understand that things happen sometimes but with a busy, 5 floor hotel one elevator is very, very slow. This should have been fixed within 24 hours in my opinion. Next, the pool was supposed to open at 7 am(actually it says 6am on the placard next to the door. My 4 year old was very excited about the pool and as we are early risers and away from the hotel from about 9am-9pm, 7-9 was when we could use it and were unable to both mornings. Apparently they choose not to start cleaning it until about 8am so it would not be suitable for use for a couple of hours after that. On the second day they directed us to the next hotel over to use their pool which we did even though the water looked fairly murky there. It seems pretty simple that if you put the chemicals in after the pool closes at night, then it would be ready in the morning. Finally, we had mixed results with the staff most of whom were very friendly and helpful but the person that my wife talked to about the pool was rude to her. The building and rooms, when clean and in working order, are nice. The breakfast is good. Mostly, the staff is friendly and helpful. The location is convenient. It's close to the highway, mall, and restaurants. There is plenty to do in the 7 cities. read more

This hotel did the trick. We needed a place to crash after an overly indulgent night and this fit the bill. We did not necessarily need the kitchenette, but we did enjoy having the little living room as extra space. The beds were super soft and comfortable and the bathroom was roomy. I enjoyed that they offer a nice breakfast, but I hated the biscuits and gravy :( Blech. Other than that, the coffee and yogurt helped put my stomach to rights in the morning. Breakfast ends at 10 and checkout is noon, which is actually really nice and allowed us to have a little bit of a lie in after our late night. We desperately needed it!! read more

SLEEP TIGHT... DON'T LET THE BED BUGS BITE. My husband and I have been loyal Marriott customers for over 10 years. We've always chose Marriott over any other brand because of the great customer service and the quality of our stays. This was my second trip staying at this hotel and although I could have stayed at the Residence Inn or Courtyard which was also close by I chose to stay at the Springhill Suites again since my first stay there last year was pleasant. Unfortunately on this business trip I encountered a bed bug within an hour of checking in. I would have NEVER expected to experience such a disgusting event at a Marriott. I immediately called the front desk, re-packed all my belongings, and was assigned another room (unfortunately I was downgraded from a King size bed to two double beds on a lower floor). Had it been earlier in the day/night, I would have asked to be moved to another hotel but it was already midnight and I was exhausted from travelling from the west coast and was also fighting a cold. I was assured they checked the new room before entering and I checked the sheets and under the mattress myself. Everything seemed to be clear but the thought of having bed bugs in one room led me to think where else could they be and the possibility of bringing them into my home. Needless to say I did not sleep as well the rest of the week. For all that trouble I was credited one night (which didn't matter much to me since my lodging was paid by my company anyway) and received an apology from the general manager who provided me with extra Marriott rewards points -- which I still feel is not enough for what I went through that week. I'm sorry, but that won't bring me back ever again and I'm sure my coworkers won't either. *queue itchy feeling + start scratching* read more

The staff/woman running the breakfast on the weekend should be fired. With 10 plus kids eating breakfast, she decides not to put out the whipped cream and chocolate chips for the waffles. My 2 kids ask for whipped cream and she says, oh, we have that Monday through Friday. I respond, well, that doesn't really help us since today is Sunday, right? She then proceeds to talk stink to another customer right in front of me and say, I just give "them" a big smile. Putting aside how inappropriate her behavior is, I'm not really sure what business people eat waffles with whipped cream and chocolate chips during the week; consider have kid-friendly food on the weekend and hire staff who aren't too lazy not to want to clean up after kids on the weekend.... read more
