When I reached college, I became obese. I still did not eat veggies and healthy stuff until my friend introduced me subway. The first time I tried subway was during my 3rd year in college. That was when there was a buy one take one promo. We shared the promo and I just ordered something and did not even want my sandwich to have anything except the bread and the chicken. (The server looked at me like a weird person) One day, I craved for subway but this time, I asked the server to put a few lettuce and that's the time I started eating veggies. One by one. I also started eating healthy, exercising and guess what! I lost 40 lbs in total. I'm maintaining my diet until now and I know this is weird but I started eating veggies because of subway. My favorite is their chicken teriyaki with lots of lettuce, tomatoes, a few japaleno, onion, and cucumber. The best part is their honey mustard dressing. Preparing sandwiches is easy as ABC. I love that I can grab them and have it for to go always. I just hope that they open more branches especially in the south.

I've had some of my best meals in some of the most unassuming places such as in small cafes, food trucks and New York delicatessens. I still remember the most incredible sandwich I have ever tasted - soft bread, fresh lettuce and meat slices 2-inches thick. I miss New York. And I miss their sandwiches. Unfortunately, the closest thing that I have ever tried to a yummy New York sandwich are those available at Sandwich Guy. While not as excellent, they're good enough. What I like about this place is that they offer some of fresh ingredients especially with their tomatoes, onions and lettuce. While I'd like to have more pieces of meat in my sandwich, the freshness that they deliver every time is good enough. They also have some incredible staff members at this particular branch, always willing to help with any requests. Parking is limited so I usually have mine to go.

So on one of those special occasions, we went to Bamba. The one thing I noticed about this place is how unassuming it is. Their servers are polite and attentive, even if we came in 30 minutes before closing time. Food is served quickly despite the effort that was put in the cooking and preparation. I traded my buffalo wings for their Mushroom Ravioli and I was not disappointed. Each bite was oozing with flavor that it's impossible not to savor it. Hubby ordered the lamb adobo. On his first bite, he said it was too salty. But later on he said it was just right and that the lamb was rid of it's usual pungent smell (I think they call it maanggo in Tagalog). One thing I realized though is that I'm not a fan of those half-baked cookie desserts. The Pizookie was over-rated in my opinion, but well, that's just me. I'll keep in mind to order a different dessert next time. When another special occasion comes up that's worthy of a Bamba Bistro dinner. P.S. Another thing I liked about the place was they have this funny sign board that said something like, "Don't ask us the WiFi password. Talk to each other." Our definite, must-order list consists of the Huevos Flamencos, French Fries Moderne, Le Cochon Sliders, and their goodness-gracious-this-is-incredible Pizzookie. My personal favorites would have to be the fries and the pizzookie though. I never thought French fries would go well with honey and real cheese (versus the store-bought artificially flavored ones), and the rosemary just seals the deal with its mild-yet-enticing aroma. The Pizzookie on the other hand is just a perfect contrast of sweet and salty, and hot and cold, which never fails to give me a warm, cozy feeling and a natural (sugar) high at the same time. So obviously, if I was to go alone (which I would probably do), I'll just have the French Fries Moderne and the Pizzookie for the wonderful contrasts in taste, and finish off with a glass of their oh-so-genius beer and calamansi concoction - the beergarita.

Just so happens we had time to kill one afternoon and sat down at Elbert's to try other items on their menu, the house burger and chili dog which were forgettable. Both had huge buns encasing the meat. The chili on top probably came from a can and topped with about 5 1x1 cm squares of cheese... Lesson learned and sticking with the hits next time!

The inside has this quirky feel: there are swings, there's art on the wall, and the chalkboard writings have a touch of humor on it. They have books for you to read, and board games to beat boredom with (I played Monopoly with my boyfriend, and he lost!!). It's perfect, actually. Because most places who strive for the same template (millenial, hipstery) end up looking tacky and I don't know. Cheesy? Poseury? Not to be mean or anything. We got the Cachorro Quente Completo. It's an 8-inch cheese Hungarian sausage in a bun, filled with corn, mashed potatoes, tomatoes, chips and cheese sauce. It comes with fries on the side. That hotdog is good for two people, it's that huge. I don't think I could finish it by myself. Portion commens aside, I love how the crazy ingredients played with the overall taste of the hotdog. The hotdogs come freshly cooked and absolutely appetizing. The bread is toasted and provides a fittingly tasty accompaniment, while the fries are deep-fried and delicious. I had the Tijuana Bacon Dog, which is a bacon-wrapped frankfurter topped with cheese, chili con carne and a fried egg. I splurged for chili con carne on my fries as well, which proved to be an excellent decision. Food aside, Wicked Dogs has an industrial look that is pretty attractive. The Instagram-worthiness of the establishment is highlighted by the props (mustaches and eyeglasses) present on every table. If you're lucky, you can get the special table next to the window, which is actually more of an elevated alcove that is quite cozy. Two of the regular tables have a swing seat which is pretty novel as well.

Loved the interiors of the place and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Happy to know that they offer soy milk too! I got a soy milk latte that was prepared well and they didn't rush preparing the coffee. Coffee itself was roasted well and not too acidic. Will go back again when I'm in town.
