The lady did not mark where I asked her to shorten to and cut it to the second button hole rather than the first one as I had asked. I had to trash the shirt and buy a new shirt. When I asked her if she would take care of the alteration on the new shirt she said she did not remember and it must have been my fault. She refused to take any responsibility. read more

Unfortunately, this alterations up chargers services. The first time I went, I had a great experience and reasonable prices. The second time I went, only a week or two after my first experience, I was charged double for the same exact service on another shirt. Confused, I asked why there was such a stark difference and I was told "the style and material" was different. This doesn't make sense, because my first order was the exact type of style and the material wouldn't affect the process nor make it more difficult. Not only this, but I had to go back three different times for my second order because she kept forgetting to complete the order. If they stayed consistent in there prices and honest on when they say they'll complete the order, I would recommend this place. Because of the ridiculous up charge and not respecting my time as a customer, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I have been going here for about 8 years...recommended to me by my sister who had also used her for years. Holly is always friendly...and as a heavy woman she has NEVER made me feel uncomfortable or shamed me in any way. In fact she always has nice comments and is flattering. I needed to have a couple snaps sewn on 2 identical Halloween costumes--1 on each. I went into the shop in the afternoon on 10/18. She was busy helping a young lady and her mom with alterations on a bridesmaid dress. So I waited. I actually helped with the resolution of an alterations dilemma. When she was done, I told her I needed my costumes for a party on 10/20. She wrote down 10/27. I corrected her and said I really needed them early afternoon on 10/20. She gave me my bill for $20. $20 for 2 snaps. Really??? Outrageous but I had a lot going on and it was easier to ask for help and pay. When I arrived at 2:00 on 10/20, I stood at the reception desk waiting for her to show up. Finally I yelled "hello". Amazing...she was asleep in her chair at her sewing machine. I saw my 2 costumes hanging on the same hook she put them on on 10/18. Told her I was there to pick them up. OMG. She told me she didn't do them yet. She told me she would do them then and to come back later. No way...I had frozen food in my car, my party was in a couple hours and she's sleeping and wants me to come back later. I told her I was staying until they were done. I paid my $20, felt ripped off, unhappy and I left. The flimsy snaps she used were absolutely useless. They did not hold. I went back today, took the costumes in and told her I want my money back. She offered a bigger snap. Nope...I want my money back and I will NEVER go in there again. Useless. My experiences with the tailor. Holly, has been great. I took a very expensive men's jacket, ISAIA, to her for tailoring and she did a great job. I was super nervous because this jacket is very expensive and I had her shorted the sleeves. This required her to move the buttons, threading, etc. She did an awesome job! It sounds like this company is under new management. With the previous owner, I loved the alterations I got and they were always so friendly. The new alterations woman was friendly enough but nothing spectacular. I really only needed my dress hemmed and she did a fine job with that so I was satisfied with that part of it. The reason I am writing a review is because when I picked up my dress, they had put two giant safety pins in the top of the dress. When I removed the safety pins, there were distinct holes in the sheer chiffon fabric. I didn't make a fuss about it because in the end, the holes were very small (it's a safety pin) but still not ok to do that in my opinion. read more

Excellent alterations are to be found at Almaden Alterations. Last summer I called early on a Saturday morning with a sleeve-shortening emergency on a brand new blazer which I had purchased the night before and which I needed to wear for a job interview on the following Monday morning. They were able to see me immediately and give me same day turnaround service, shortening the sleeves to the exact length and reinforcing all the buttons as well. About 10 years ago I had a "miracle" bridesmaid's dress altered at Almaden Alteration - the bride wanted dresses for her 4 bridesmaids from the Gunne Sax Outlet and only 4 of the dresses were available, two size 12s and two size 14s. I should have had a size 14, but two of the bridesmaids were bigger girls than I, so I volunteered to take one of the size 12s, even though it was an extremely tight fit. One trip to Almaden Alterations and not only did they shorten the dress and tulle underskirt to my petite height, but they were also able to open up every single seam of the dress and find a quarter inch of fabric here and a quarter inch of fabric there until they turned my size 12 into a perfectly fitting size 14. It was truly a miracle dress. I cannot say more good things about Almaden Alterations - if you need something fitted, they can make it happen. read more

Maybe Holly has grown up. My first experience was okay, she could have been friendlier but I'm paying for competence and she has demonstrated excellence in challenging alterations. The work done at Almaden Alterations is fantastic. I've been taking important pieces here to get them altered for over 15 years. However, they are incredibly pricey. You get what you pay for so if it's an expensive piece or complicated alterations, this is the place to go. My most recent experience here was however, disappointing. I brought in a bridesmaid dress for altering and was not told the price when I left it. It was written on the ticket, and I admit I should have asked. Boy do I regret it, when I came to pick it up I discovered it was $140!!! Yikes. I'm disappointed that they didn't say this to me at drop off (BTW, you know this will be $140). Had I known, I would have gone someplace else (the dress was only $260). Again, amazing work, the nicest people in the world, but ask how much it's going to be! read more

Holly did a perfect job sewing Cub Scout patches on uniforms. She even used orange thread on the orange patch and navy blue thread on the blue patch. This was a pleasant surprise compared to the sloppy job that a different alterations shop did, sewing on multiple patches, all with white thread. I was uncertain whether or not to go here to get my little sister's prom dress tailored due to some negative reviews. Her prom dress had a plethora of gems, needed a hem, and was much too large for her. However, I am so glad I disregarded the negative reviews and came here! The store owner is superb and extremely talented. It was a little difficult to communicate with her due to the language barrier, but she did a stellar job with the dress. I think that because her English isn't amazing, she may come off as rude, but she is actually very professional and will does a great job with alterations. When I went to pick up my sister's prom dress for her, I was surprised it was finished -- it didn't even look altered. I was amazed by the great job she did, and all for an affordable price.
