Somewhat conflicted writing this review! I tried Alma yesterday and loved the experience. Atmosphere was nice and slow, so I was able to ask the cashier for a rec and got the 12oz strawberry matcha with vanilla cold foam. So good, and loved the cold foam (not typically a fan of matcha either)!! However, going back today I did feel a little differently. The storefront was busier, but there was a healthy amount of staff to take care of everyone. Once it was my turn to order, I went with the 16oz strawberry matcha & didn't realize they had different cold foam flavors. The same girl who checked me out yesterday was at the register, so I asked what she recommended yesterday and she said "girl I don't even remember you". With her general attitude it just took away from the good experience I had yesterday. I can understand it was busier and maybe she had more on her mind, but I've been on the other side of the bar before too & I feel like the fact that it was slow+ me mentioning it was my first time+ the dance we did to figure out what I should get would prompt an employee to at least vaguely remember a customer if they come in the next morning. Wish I had gotten her name, but attitude and tone definitely rubbed me the wrong way a bit and made the interaction feel less like an experience and more like a transaction. I had also brought a friend (first time customer, also has service industry experience), and she said something to me about the cashier's attitude after ordering as well. Alma recently opened their flagship location, and I had to stop by. I'm a big fan of their matcha, especially the Marshmallow Matcha Latte. It tastes amazing every time! The space itself is beautiful, with plenty of seating that makes it the perfect study or coworking spot for students and anyone looking to get some work done. The green paint on the walls is gorgeous, and that's coming from someone who usually isn't even a fan of green. The atmosphere feels super cozy, and they mainly play indie music, which I loved. As always, the staff was incredibly kind and greeted me as soon as I walked in. One thing I will say is that I initially thought they only served drinks because I didn't notice the food options on the menu until I saw someone else order. When you walk in, there is a lounge area on the left side along with several small table and chair seating options including a long table set up with plenty of seats. On the right side is the ordering area with your matcha professionals behind the counter ready and willing to assist as they greet you upon arrival. They also sell merch including apparel in the far back area, matcha sets and matcha powder underneath the ordering counter and over by the lounge area. Ariel helped me with my order as I was trying to decide what to get. She explained a few different options and gave me some suggestions for favorites. I saw ube and it was all over. Naturally I had to get the Ube Cold Foam Matcha Latte. Had to!!! Although I really wanted to try the Banana Bread Matcha Latte and Blueberry Matcha Latte too. Next time. Madison was my matcha barista. She makes each drink with so much care and precision. They use ceremonial matcha here with all the fancy tools. I got a 12oz Ube Cold Foam Matcha Latte that cost me $9.00. Pricey, not gonna lie. But you're paying for the high quality matcha and the vibe here. I actually finally tried this place because they hosted a Matcha & Beats event in the nearby courtyard which by the way kudos, because that was a great event. The store front actually expanded from what I was told. It's a very trendy coffee shop, located primely in an area that has a lot of foot traffic and not nearly enough parking spots. That's just Fort Lauderdale right. Their specialty obviously is matcha lattes, but they also sell actual matcha powder and merch that are super cute actually. The Ube Cold Foam Matcha and Banana Bread Matcha are two of their most popular. But I've been vibing with Earl Grey tea lately, and they had an Earl Grey Matcha lattee which is so interesting. I got that with Oat Milk and it was surprisingly good. It was a great blend together, because I could taste both teas distinctively. I fear that it might've been better with whole milk, so I'd be interested to go back and try that. The actual store front is coming soon directly next to this pop-up with no name affixed to the frontage yet, so I just followed the endless parade of matcha addicts through the front door. Basically, a cafe style setting with a few couches and tables, but busy with standing room only. Firstly, customers pick their flavored matcha latte from the eight item menu. Then the friendly barista begins the live preparation in front of me using the equipment on the counter which includes a whisk, bowl, sifter and frother. Finally, the thin green matcha is slowly poured into an ice filled cup gently mingling with the milk and syrup flavored base. This is only my third time having matcha and forgot again to request less ice. The banana bread flavor was wonderfully sweet, but it was literally five sips to sucking air for $9.00, but the larger size would have been a couple dollars more. Loved the engaging experience of watching the barista prepare my smooth matcha latte. Not sure if the nutritional value is advantageous or just a fad, but for now I will stick with my espresso and the jitters. As most of us know, Alma Matcha has blown up over the last couple of months. I was a frequent visitor at their location at the Residency, which I loved. They recently moved to a permanent location on Sunrise in Fort Lauderdale, which I'm so happy about because I go to Pilates next door. The space is smaller but still has a nice vibe. There is a good amount of seating if you want to relax and enjoy your matcha or have a girl chat. I'll be honest, I was never a matcha person, but that changed when I tried Alma. Their flavors are really good, but my favorites are the blueberry banana bread and my new favorite, pumpkin spice. My fiancé always gets the blueberry with ube cold foam. Truly, you cannot go wrong. If you're not someone who typically likes matcha, this is a great way to get accustomed to the taste because their syrups are so good but not overly sweet. All the girls working there are super nice and provide excellent customer service. I have to give a special shoutout to Brie, who is a doll. She always remembers us and the first time I came, I mentioned I didn't love matcha. She recommended the perfect one for me and even put a little less matcha in it.
