Things I really like here: They remembered my name after only a handful of visits spread out over quite some time. The housemade hummus. The chicken veggie hummus pita. Probably the best thing I've had there. The BLT. But I'm a sucker for BLTs. The shrimp po'boy special. This or redfish po'boys are only found on Fridays. The soups of the day (at least 4 daily). The spinach & cheese melt. The chicken sandwich special with the pepper jack, bacon, ranch. The chicken breast they use in everything is tender, marinated, and well seasoned. They have a mailing list you can sign up on their site where you can get the daily specials every morning. I work in the area, so I'm a subscriber. They also often have cookouts on Thursdays - burgers, etc, on the side yard, when it gets warm. Open really late for lunch, but they put the soups away at 2. I think you can still order them though at the counter; it's just not self-serve after that time. Per their newsletter, as of April 30th, they will begin selling frozen vanilla yogurt (cup or cone) with several topping choices: fruit, nuts, chocolate and caramel sauces, Reese's Pieces, and Oreo crumbles. read more

A solid 4 stars. Fresh ingredients, fair prices, attentive staff, diverse menu. Great lunch place, especially in an area in Rosslyn with VERY limited options! I really don't dig their cafeteria like ambiance. My only suggestion to them would be to redecorate, rebrand, and become a little more spunky. Both time I came here, I enjoyed my chicken hummus pita and make your own salad. All of the ingredients are very fresh and you can tell that their prepared ingredients are made in their kitchens. There are only 2 reasons why you should ever come to AllSpice for lunch. 1) If you work right next to the place and are feeling too lazy to go anywhere else and 2) because the people who work there are really great and friendly. Unfortunately, the food is poor to mediocre at best. I got the special sandwich of the day which sounded amazing - chicken breast marinated in cilantro marinade, pepperjack cheese, jalapeno spread, lettuce and tomato. Unfortunately, what I got was a super dry piece of chicken with absolutely no hint of cilantro and the "jalapeno spread" was mayonnaise with red pepper flakes mixed in. WHAT!? Found these folks to be very friendly when I went in. A couple of the guys there explained to me how the salad system works. Think chopt but $3-4 bucks cheaper per salad. You can do customized salads or pre selected. I tried the chicken Cobb special salad today. Ingredients very fresh, huge portions (at least as big as chopt as well if not larger) This will be my go to place for salads going forward. I haven't tried the wraps or sandwiches yet but will in the future and update accordingly. Contrary to what the name implies, this is not a Indian restaurant. Coffee and food are fine, but I've never really felt welcome or appreciated in the year I've been coming here. The staff seems averse to ever saying hello. This morning in particular, the only words spoken at me were "name?" and "want a receipt?". I've also noticed that breakfast sandwiches are made in the microwave, which doesn't exude freshness. Lastly, it's not at all uncommon for the cashier to wear the gloves used for food prep to accept your payment, then go right back to making food. I eat lunch here almost every weekday and I love this place. First of all, the entire staff is friendly and very accommodating. I am a vegetarian with several pesky food allergies (and for anyone out there with dietary restrictions, you know how difficult some places can be about these things). The Allspice staff not only remembers my name, but they remember my allergies! Chef Steve has even gone out of his way to let me know when he's created a new, tasty soup or special dish that meet s my particular criteria. Jeni (who also coordinates much of the catering) is especially helpful and sensitive to individual needs. I highly recommend the hummus, as others have mentioned. They recently revamped the recipe and (after a couple of unfortunate attempts) it's now quite delicious! They're also using a new baker for the pita bread and, IMHO, both the white and wheat pitas have more texture and a better flavor than ever before. A few of my other faves (and recommendations for fellow vegetarians): Greek Sampler Salad Combo (hummus, pita bread, and a nice-sized, FRESH mixed-greens salad complete with a mouthwatering, homemade red wine vinaigrette dressing), the veggie hummus pita sandwich, the spinach melt, the savory kale soup, and the spinach-rosemary-chickpea soup. Also, they have the best NY style bagels in the Rosslyn area and they make some yummy flavored cream cheeses. Allspice is a good choice for group lunches (in-store or catered) because everyone can find something scrumptious (my carnivorous co-worker swears by their steak n' cheese pita sandwich). All Spice had a nice variety of sandwiches and wraps so i could tailor a selection of good food to cover all the dietary needs of a 60 person crew. But, it was all worth it, i'll never be impatient again. I got a sandwich, a nice, juicy, gooey, warm, crisp (sortive small looking), square piece of PERFECTION! This, my friends, was the perfect sandwhich. The taste was monstrously bigger than the looks. The flavors were perfect, I could tell they used ingridients strait from the farmers market. I immedietly signed my junk email account to the daily special email list. Under a non-humid day sun, outdoor seating, this sandwich was the perfect lunch. I can't wait to try everything on the menu! This will for sure be my regular place! I come here a lot for my lunch break between classes. The thing that I love most about this place is their wide selection of everything and particularly the vegetarian options. Their sandwiches and salads taste great, you can sense that they're homemade, and so are the cookies (gotta love Oreo chips cookie!). The prices are very reasonable, especially for this business area of Arlington. In addition, you can order by phone or through 'Living Social' and come to pick up your order at your convenience, which is good if you have a busy day and don't want to spend time waiting for it to be ready. Sandwich was small and nothing special, and the chili lacked flavor and any sense of spiciness that I am used to. Honestly, Quizno's chili is better. BUT, my friends, I noticed other people getting the very popular Chicken Hummus Veggie Pita, so I knew I had to go back. Definitely a HUGE step up from my first experience with this place. My favorite is the Chicken Veggie Hummus Pita. It's to die for! The hummus is amazing and I often buy a container to take home. They have daily specials that are made to order and also have fresh salads and soups. The Greek chicken salad is very good also. During the summer they have awesome BBQ and even have frozen yogurt. What happened to the hummus? This use to be my favorite, go-to spot for lunch, mostly because they made my favorite hummus around. I've ordered various wraps and salads that come with hummus in the past and even picked up containers of their hummus to enhance my homemade lunches. But the last few times I've gone (mostly in 2013), I've noticed the hummus has changed. It use to have a wonderful flavor with a little bit of a kick, but not any more. OK, so I'm stuck in the same office building with this place...here for training. Saw this place then wandered across the hall to give it a try. Here's what I've discovered, excellent breakfast sandwiches offered on a wide variety of fresh bread, same at lunch time only those are lunch sandwiches. So here's an interesting factoid about this lovely little café located in this nondescript office building in Rosslyn VA, it sits atop the parking garage where the Deputy Director of the FBI met in secret with journalists from the Washington Post. The action that brought down Richard Nixon's presidency...spying on the DNC HQ at the Watergate Hotel, 18 minutes of missing oval office voice recordings, wow! I haven't eaten at the cafe yet, but Jeni and her team at AllSpice catered our wedding a couple of weeks ago and they were great. Total professionals who were able to put together an amazing table of great food, help with set-up, serve drinks, manage the event and clean up before the next wedding came in. They even stuck by us when 6 weeks before the wedding we had to move it. Jeni came out and did another site visit and basically re-planned the logistics. After purchasing the $1 for $10 of food LivingSocial deal, I decided to try out AllSpice Cafe and Catering since it's right next to my work building. 5 star deli. Why it's 5 Stars: 1. Just as requested: I asked for cole slaw on the side (I don't like it when it's drenched in mayo) - it was on the side. I asked for the sauce to be on the side (I don't like it when the sauce overpowers the sandwich) - it was on the side. I asked for a specific kind of bread - i got that bread. 2. It was made and ready on time (probably even earlier!) 3. Fresh ingredients - I got the East Coast Turkey which is a roasted turkey with cole slaw, swiss cheese, and a sauce (which is pretty much to Thousand Island sauce). The portion of meat is just right, the quality of the meat is excellent, pumpernickel bread was a little dry but really didn't impact my meal. 4. Don't cheat you out - for sandwiches ranging $5.50-$6.89... you get your money's worth. Feel great after eating it since it's all fresh ingredients. 5. Service. My friend wasn't sure if his food was ready (he ordered much later than me online). Store manager called him to verify that he would like everything on it, and notified there was no more potato salad offered him something else all within 5 minutes of placing the order. Once the his order was done, we didn't realize it was and one of the employees making the sandwiches followed up on us asking what we were waiting for. If it wasn't for her, we would have waited longer simply not knowing it was ready. Great job management and staff. I decided to give it 5 stars not because it is life-changing but it is very good at what it does. A very solid lunch spot with sandwiches and salads and wraps and pitas. I've mostly focused on chicken caesar wraps and grilled chicken/veggie wraps and salads, but I've enjoyed them all. The quality of the chicken is night and day when compared to that of Cosi or Chopt or any of the chain restaurants where the chicken tastes fake. I've been coming here on and off since 2008 when I worked in the building across the street. I'm a pretty picky and habitual eater. Their chicken Caesar wrap is the best wrap I've ever had! At $6, you get a heaping, overstuffed wrap filled with lettuce, chicken, feta cheese and dressing (which is never too heavy). And they actually pay attention to any special requests you might have.
