Spring Tea Garden

My friend has a real gift for finding the most wonderful restaurants. I recently had the pleasure…read moreof joining her and her mother for afternoon tea at Spring Tea Garden. The room where they serve tea is elegant and serene. It was exactly as we'd hoped it would be for a relaxing place to have a pleasant conversation with friends over delectable food and drink. We went on a Thursday afternoon and I would suggest a midweek visit since it wasn't crowded as I suspect it would be on the weekend. We ordered the ''Spring Tea'' menu option. It was $36 pp which I thought was reasonable compared to other places I've been. It included 5 tea sandwiches, desserts, a pot of tea, and a scone with cream & jam. There was enough food to bring some home for later. The selection of teas offered was large. I opted for the Earl Grey Fancy which I quite liked. My friend ordered the Ginger Peach which she really liked too. I recommend this establishment and hope to go back before long.

I've visited Spring Tea Garden for several occasions over the years - birthday party, a bridal…read moreshower, and casual girls' day outings. Each experience was hosted in a different room, which kept things feeling unique each time. For larger events like birthday parties, the food was served buffet-style, while smaller gatherings such as the bridal shower had table service, which felt more intimate and elevated. Most tea sets include scones with cream and jam, tea sandwiches, mini desserts, and a refillable pot of tea. Portions are on the smaller side, so you'll likely leave satisfied but not overly full. The food itself is decent but not particularly memorable. The atmosphere and experience are definitely the main draw here. It's a cute spot for a girls' day or special occasion, though it is a bit pricey. The middle-tier tea service is around $36 per adult, and they also offer a Little Princess Tea for kids at $20, which includes fruit, scones, desserts, and cucumber sandwiches + PB&J. One plus is the parking as they have a good-sized lot and I've never had trouble finding a spot.

She was quick to respond and came up with ideas to perfectly put together the cutest and most perfect backdrop! My sister was in awe and cried when she saw it. First, I have to say... I HATE PARTY PLANNING! For this reason I was eager to find someone who…read morewould help me plan as much of my baby shower as possible. However, I was also on a budget and that made finding someone nearly impossible. I reached out to several over priced planners, decorators, and party supply stores before finally finding Diane on Instagram. She responded and immediately started asking the right questions to get an understanding of what it was that I was looking for. We discussed what services I needed, how much I was willing to pay, and what my theme was. After discussing all the details she provided me with a quote which was AMAZINGLY reasonable. She had options and solutions for nearly everything I needed. I ordered chairs and tables, linens and runners, the cake and desserts, and the backdrop. The day of, she was at the venue on time and immediately started setting up (all before I even showed up). She was always available to answer my questions and or make adjustments to my order to stay within my price range. She was absolutely amazing. Diane, I just want to thank you for all your hard work. You are truly a professional and have incredible taste. I would use you again and refer you to anyone. You made this baby shower beautiful and everyone commented on it.

We ended up having my daughter's birthday here. Unfortunately, the ladies that were in charge of…read moreher birthday didn't have as much energy as I had seen in other birthday parties. (I put in the request via email about people with a good amount of energy, since I noticed a different in two parties I had been to, but none of the requests that I had placed via email mattered. I asked for high energy and mentioned that my daughter loves music, and they had lower energy and had to ask them to turn up the music. I mentioned that we didn't need a cake since she was getting one later, and they brought a cake.) At some point during the birthday party, I had to actually ask one of the ladies there to turn up the music because we could hardly hear it. That was really disappointing since my daughter really loves music (which I had mentioned in my email to them earlier that week). They didn't do any singing or karaoke since we hardly even heard the music. Super disappointing. It's cute in the sense that the kiddos can dress up and get their makeup and hair done and they did a great job at that part. I also liked that they took photos and then airdropped them to your phone after. The way it's set up, the birthday kiddo rings a bell to ask for more food or whatnot for her friends. The whole set up honestly doesn't seem to foster the values I want in my kiddo, but for a one time thing, I suppose it can make the birthday kiddo special. I feel like they could do something more fun like ringing the bell each time someone said birthday or something to that effect. Given my experiences here as the host of a birthday, it's cute but wouldn't do a birthday or event here again just given the overall service. Also, you'll end up tipping the people helping out, and that will be extra (I think we paid almost an extra 100). From a parent perspective, it's a little awkward. You are told to put "drop offs encouraged" but a lot of PV moms end up hanging out or not knowing if they should stay or go. I've paid similar amounts to other types of birthdays and have definitely felt like the value was worth it. This place, not entirely sure, but understand it's an institution and place of tradition in the area. You have to bring your own food, but they don't serve cake. Make sure you bring socks.

My wife chose H&H Brazilian Steakhouse in Los Angeles for my birthday dinner. We picked it in part…read morebecause of the halal options, which we appreciated, but overall the service and experience were disappointing. We had a 6:30 reservation, and after being seated at table L4, it took several minutes before anyone came over. When our waitress Karen finally approached, she greeted us with "Hello, ladies" without really looking at me. She then realized I was a man and apologized. I do have long curly hair, so I understood how the mistake happened, but it made for an awkward start to the evening. She was pleasant while explaining the menu and helped us understand which items we could eat. One of the main reasons my wife chose H&H was because of the halal meat options. Since we do not eat pork, our waitress specifically told us she would let the meat servers know not to bring pork to our table. Unfortunately, pork was still brought over to us, which was disappointing considering our dietary restriction had already been clearly discussed. After taking our drinks and getting us started, our waitress essentially disappeared. We had to flag down other staff throughout most of the meal whenever we needed something. Meanwhile, nearby tables were receiving regular check-ins and much more attention from their server. We were among the few couples of color in our immediate area, and while I can't say why our service was so different, the contrast was noticeable and made the experience uncomfortable. The meat servers were actually one of the bright spots and a big reason this isn't a one-star review. Several of them were friendly and accommodating. However, the red-and-green card system didn't seem to work consistently. Even with the green side showing, there were times we were passed by and had to ask for certain meats. The food itself was mixed. The Brazilian limeade was probably my favorite part of the meal. We also really enjoyed the cinnamon pineapple, fried plantains, Brazilian cheese bread, and the mashed potatoes, which were excellent. Some of the meats were good, but others were overly fatty or very tough and difficult to chew, also we did not like the big crystals of salt all over the meat which made it very salty. The fried corn wasn't for us. The farm-to-table area was another disappointment. We noticed numerous small flies flying around the food, which immediately turned us off, so we barely took anything from that section. Cleanliness also stood out for the wrong reasons. There was visible dust buildup on the wall and lighting area behind our table, as well as on the small lamps around us. In the restroom, there were no paper towels available for drying your hands, only the air dryer. My wife had also specifically noted on the reservation that we were celebrating my birthday. There was no acknowledgment until she went and reminded the staff herself. They eventually brought something out, which I appreciated, but by that point it felt more like an afterthought. Even getting the bill at the end was difficult. We were left waiting and eventually had to track someone down just so we could pay. There were definitely some good moments, the Brazilian limeade, cinnamon pineapple, Brazilian cheese bread, mashed potatoes, some of the meats, and several helpful meat servers, but for a birthday dinner costing us well over $200, I expected much better service, cleanliness, attention to our dietary request, and overall hospitality. Unfortunately, this was not the birthday dinner we were hoping for.
