My microwave plug had gone out. I have used Allen Electric for years so I contacted them. I was given a quote of $405.00. They said it covered the plug and breaker. So I asked if it turned out to be just the plug would it be cheaper. I was told no so I told them to replace breaker if I was already having to pay for it. i feel like I was taken advantage of and will not be using this company in the future. I phoned Allen Electrical at 8:00 a.m. and the repair was completed by 10:30 a.m. the same day (replaced a faulty basement light fixture). The three employees I dealt with were all friendly and professional. Wendy took my initial call and explained all the details of how Allen Electrical operates. Everything went exactly as she explained. The two electricians (Jordan and Garrett) completed the repair in a timely manner. They explained everything they did (and why) and were respectful of our property. It is refreshing to deal with folks who understand great customer service! My mother had this company out today to replace two outlets in her kitchen that stopped working. They were there less than 20 minutes and charged her $314. Minus the $49 call-out fee, that's over $132 PER OUTLET. Those outlets cost just over $3 each on Amazon. That is one hell of a mark-up. We called the "manager," and he said they just "charge by the job." If a 20-minute job that requires nothing more than a screwdriver and that you don't even have to bend down to reach costs $314, just imagine what a job that actually requires skill and time will cost you. I cannot speak highly enough of Clayton. I didn't even meet him in person, as I was at work, and I was impressed. He gave a straightforward price, and when I asked him if I could do some of the work myself, he went above and beyond so I could save some money. He answered all my questions, and even made sure the old fixtures we were wanting changed out were safe for me to change myself. If we have any issues in the future, I'll be calling Allen. We had an electrical emergency at our home at 2am with a smoldering outlet producing a horrid electrical smell. While we did not want our home to catch fire, having a newborn, 2 dogs, and 3 cats to worry about made this an even more anxiety-filled night. We did not sleep. I called our home warranty at 6am, and they said they could have someone out Monday or Tuesday...this was at 6am Saturday, so that was NOT going to fly. I did a Google search and found Allen Electrical Services and called them instead. Their dispatch listened to my needs at that early morning hour and quickly assigned me to a technician named Drew, who promised that he would be out by 1030am. He showed up early at 945am and had our situation resolved by 1015am. He was very friendly and efficient and explained what repairs were made in a manner that I could understand (without a lot of jargon). He also let me know about paying via cash instead of card to save 3%, and he gave me an Allen Electrical magnet for the fridge and told me that I Cooke also likely contact my home warranty for a payment reimbursement. I loved my experience with Drew and Allen Electrical this morning! You guys saved my home and allowed my husband and I to finally get some rest with peace of mind and a new outlet, and also saved us some money. We needed a new breaker box installed for a new electric water heater. Allen Electric came very highly recommended and rightly so. Daniel and Dylan were early (which I LOVED!) and very courteous. They explained everything they were going to do before they did it and answered every question I had about the whole process. My first experience using Allen Electrical could not have been better. Jordan and his assistant (Evan, I believe...) were prompt, courteous, and professional. What I thought was going to be a simple circuit breaker replacement turned into a couple of hours of trouble shooting, running new wire, and re-doing all connections on the circuit. I called Allen Electric to get 2 floodlights replaced. A year ago they gave me a quote to replace them when I had other lights installed. Today I called them to replace the lights and they wanted to charge me $50 just to show up and do the work. That's $50 on top of labor and costs to do work I wanted them to come out and perform. Shame on you Allen Electric! What a way to treat a returning customer! I highly recommend going anywhere else if you want customer satisfaction. read more

I called them to schedule for an estimate to come and replace the electrical panel downstairs, run new wire,and a generator plug, they came to do the estimate and the tech said it would take 2 weeks to get it back never heard that before, nevertheless I said ok let me know,after 10 days I called to see how long it really takes to do estimate the receptionist said it only takes 2 days. I then explained to her why it took so long she gave me an excuse the tech got sick, never mind he told me in the beginning it would take 2 weeks to do it anyways. To make it even worse I received a letter from them with the total estimate of $4,100 and then she send me an email from the tech that was sick and forgot to send it of $4,900, what a joke never again I decided to go with someone else. read more

Office staff and appointment booking was great. They communicated well and arrived on time. The technician was polite, courteous and was able to fix the problem quickly.... But, the price. Wow. $318 dollars to change a dimmer light switch (materials no more than $15 to $20). That's $49 dollars for the service call and a flat $269 for the work they did. From the time he pulled up to the house, did the work and left it was around 45 minutes. Minus the material cost, that is almost $300 dollars for the (less than) hour. I don't mind paying more for good/professional work and it is why I went with 3 stars. I am glad it was not a serious issue and it was resolved, but for somewhat simple tasks, that is a bit much. read more

I have never had to hire an electrician, and not being from the area makes that pretty hard, especially when none of your friends have any recommendations. I feel like I got lucky, when I found Allen Electric, when I googled Electricians. Everyone I spoke to was professional, friendly, courteous and helpful; from the guy who answered the phone, the girl who scheduled my appointment, and, of course, Chris, the electrician, who came out to do the job, on a freezing cold, snowy morning. I love that they are very open about pricing, from the start. Their prices seem reasonable. I really like that all of their prices are clearly printed, on the work order. So, if I ever need more electrical work done, I can check the price list and have an idea of what it will cost. Chris arrived close to the appointed time and called, when he was on his way. I wouldn't have been surprised, if they would have called to reschedule, due to the weather, but I was happy that they didn't. The job was done very quickly and he also took care of another small issue, for us. There is a one year warranty on the work he did, so that and the fact that he was very knowledgeable gives me confidence, in the job and the company. Wasted $400 and solved nothing. We have rooms in our house that keep tripping the breaker box despite having only a few things plugged into the outlet. I called Allen Electrical. No free estimate, it cost $49 to have them come out. That was reasonable to me. Electricians came out, very courteous and friendly. However, they only listened to my verbal description of the problem. In order for them to actually look and examine anything, I had to sign the paperwork. I signed and agreed to pay $347 (for a total of $396 including the $49 fee), thinking that they would fix the issue. After examining the breaker box and outlets, they were still unsure of the issue. They left. Nothing was fix. I still have the same issue I had before calling them, except that now I'm $400 poorer. While the electricians were nice and friendly, paying $400 and got nothing accomplished is very frustrating, especially amidst the pandemic when money is tight. read more

BUYER BEWARE. This is my first review ever on YELP - I just had to speak out. Start with my credentials - I am a physician so I am not a cheapskate and my Dad was a house framer so I respect trained professionals of all varietals. I have spent my entire adult life remodeling/fixing things in my house. On a scale of 1 to 10 I have a 4-5/10 knowledge of electrical matters. NOW my issue - one week ago I asked to have a electrician come to my house to replace one breaker, correct an open ground in one plug and fix 3 non-operative outside GFIs. In my mind I was thinking I could do this work in an hour and materials would cost around $75. Since this was in response to a home inspection I felt important to bring in the big guns. They came out - put on booties - spent around a minute surveying the situation - went back out to truck - QUOTED PRICE - over $700!!!!!!!!. The open ground was simply a loose ground wire - 2 minutes plate screw to done. I'm sorry that is so outside the realm of reality - an electrician should knock this out in 45 minutes. Hourly rate of more than $650 an hour. After this encounter - I went ahead and did the tasks myself - $63.75 materials - and 39 minutes of my time. If I put a breathing tube in your lung to save your life I would charge you $290. I don't know if I was up charged because we have a great house (thank God for my blessings everyday) or if they thought I looked like a sucker. Save your hard earned money - I'm putting 6 kids though college in the next 6 hours so I watch every penny. Find an honest hardworking electrician through friends - will not contact these guys ever again. Not looking for response from them - I I'm paying this much you're either cutting open my chest or representing me in court. read more

I've used Allen Electric on and off for years. They are very responsive showing up with a few hours notice and pin pointing the problem effectively. We are using them on a big job and our electrician was extremely thorough. He was a second bid. He looked over the job, made excellent suggestions and added an extra box that had been damaged. The other electrician didn't even look at it but it clearly needed replacing. His price was still cheaper and the communication was excellent. So I had a light in the kitchen go out, after changing bulbs we figured it was the fixture. I changed the fixture and still did not work, I changed the switch and still did not work. The other light in the kitchen was fine and this one stopped for no reason. I called Allen electric and made an appt, I believe a 45 dollar service call fee off the bat. I had the light fixture down and the switch plate off before they arrived (2 employees) and timed their stay at 43 minutes. They said since it was a two switch box it would be 263.00 flat, but if the problem took longer to figure out it would go to 300+. One guy went to the attic after the checked voltages, once that happened I began to get the discussion on it taking longer to figure out, then the guy in attic came down checked the wire and it was good. So, instead of 300+ they kept it at 263.00. Light switches cost about 1 to 3 dollars which was the materials expended. It still feels a little much, so I posted a poll on nextdoor and asked if people think that is excessive for a light switch fix. So far after over 80 votes 86% found it to be excessive. Next time I will check around. I also want to be sure to say their employees were polite and professional, I had no issues with them and was pleased with their work. read more

I have used Allen Electrical 3 times and wouldn't think of using anyone else. We have a 120 year old home with electrical that has been cobbled together over the years, including some knob and tube. Every crew I've had from Allen has been prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. They take excellent care to clean up after their work and make sure pets don't get out when they come in and out. During COVID they wore masks and didn't complain once. I love their up front pricing and they don't recommend additional work that's not needed. We recently had the power go out in a guest bathroom. After a couple of hours, I couldn't diagnose the issue. I called multiple electricians, all of whom were unable to come look at it until next week. It wouldn't have normally been a big deal, but of course, we have family coming in from out of town and will need to be able use the bathroom to accommodate the 4 people staying at our home. Since I've used them before, I called Allen Electric and they were able to have an electrician come the next day. The technicians, Aaron and Clayton, were very respectful of my family especially considering it was nap time for the kids. They were able to diagnose the problem fairly quickly and worked with me regarding the cost. Had Allen Electric fix a heat sensor on a recessed light plus a socket. They have a policy of $79 per part regardless of what the part is!!!! I paid $79 for a $4 heat sensor & another $79 for a $3 socket. Service was good but whoever decided the part pricing policy obviously doesn't want repeat customers. Drew K. was great when he came to work at my house last week - he switched out three ceiling fans and a light fixture, working for over 4 hours. He was polite, industrious, and thorough. When one of the light fixtures was discovered to be broken in the box, he even helped me talk to the Lowe's service desk about getting the correct replacement. Other review mention strange pricing, but everything was very upfront -- I was told on the phone that the visit was $49. After Drew looked at the fixtures, he showed me the price list and it was very clear what the charge would be.
