The answer? In this case, it's Wright Mechanical Services and Anthony Wright. Over the Thanksgiving break, my mom got some bad news about her furnace. Not being the handiest of fellows, I did some internet sleuthing and discovered that her diagnosis is one that people get scammed about quite frequently. It's also one where, if valid, is very serious and needs to be fixed as soon as possible. What's a superstar son to do? I turned to Yelp. Using the Request A Quote feature, I found a few HVAC companies. I found one, in particular, who could make it out to the house the day after Thanksgiving. Sold. Anthony called to let us know he was en route and showed up at the exact promised time. Not only did he have a treasure trove of tools but he had booties to cover his shoes. It's little details that this that's so appreciative. He explained what he was looking for and how to make a diagnosis. He walked me through every step he took and taught me a great deal. Unfortunately, the heat exchange(r) was damaged but rather than taking his word for it, he encouraged me to look for myself and explain what it was I was looking at and for. He didn't stop there. He went on to examine the second furnace (all good, thankfully) and provide a CO2 test of the house to make sure there were no dangerous carbon monoxide leaks to make us sick. Prompt. Thorough. Patient. Honest. These are the qualities you want when it comes to HVAC repair. I know that anything dealing with a HVAC unit can be really frightening. Counter that fright with the expert powers of someone who knows what he's doing and is really good at doing it. Avoid Wright Mechanical (Louisville, KY) at All Costs - $4,500 Later and Still No Fix We inherited a York HVAC unit installed in 2020 when we bought our home (installed from Wright Mechanical). It was oversized for the space, but issues didn't start until 2023 -- just three years in -- when it stopped blowing cold air. We called Wright Mechanical to service it. They claimed there was no leak, added 11 lbs of Freon, and charged over $1,000. In 2024, the exact same issue returned. We were confident there was a leak, but they again denied it -- and even suggested our neighbor might be stealing our Freon. They topped it off with another 11 lbs and charged us $1,100. By 2025, surprise: no cold air again. This time we insisted they actually fix the root problem. After a couple hours of unclear troubleshooting, they proposed a dye test (finally) -- for $2,400. This would bring the total to $4,500 paid over three years, with zero resolution. We told them we were moving on to a different company. Their response? A $500 bill for that day's visit, despite being onsite less than two hours and leaving midway. When we asked to speak with a manager, we were told that was "against policy." We called the office to escalate and were told someone would call back. No one ever did. Bottom line: Wright Mechanical charged thousands to temporarily cover up a problem they never actually diagnosed or fixed. They showed no accountability, no urgency, and no real customer service. We're now pursuing small claims court and filing a BBB complaint. Save yourself the stress -- stay far away. read more

We've had to use Wright Mechanical twice within the past two years due to buying an older home with older equipment which is not anything any homeowner truly wants to say. However, Wright made the process so painless. First, scheduling an appointment is incredibly easy, folks are friendly, and it's never too long of a turnaround time. For our A/C, we had another company come out first and tell us we needed an entirely new unit. Wright came out the next day for a second opinion and fixed our A/C in a matter of minutes. They did tell us that we will need it replaced in the future as it is ancient but for now, it'll keep running. Winter comes and our furnace went out. We immediately called Wright after having such a wonderful experience in the summer. They came out the same day and told us this time we did need a new unit. They provided us with a lot of information to help us make the an educated decision with the best fit for our home and our budget. They, also, helped us with telling us about rebates offered through our energy company. Really appreciated them working us in. Pricing was competitive with others in the area. Did not try screwing me over in order to make more money during another visit...was a small, quick repair. Seem like real people of integrity. Would be my first call with future issues. Update: Rated them four stars in the past but after they came last time to fix my a/c, they left without it working yet but insisted it WOULD kick back on. I trusted them but it never did come back on again.They cashed my check right away ($300.00) and never returned my phone calls about it. (As promised) Money down the drain and their guarantee that it would work-useless. Do NOT pay them unless you KNOW it is fixed. Dont take their word on it. Because it was mid-90s outside, I couldnt keep trying to get them to keep their word and ended up hiring another company...who DID fix it...and for less money. Company originally scheduled appointment for the following day to look at my AC that was not working. They called me back and said they had a cancellation and could go ahead and come out today. Then they called again and said the repair guy was done early and could go ahead and come on out! Yes! The guy was very nice and professional. He replaced the fan motor and was done in about an hour from the time he arrived at the house. Never once even suggested that I would have to buy a whole new unit (I have an old unit and I know it's not going to last forever, but if I can get a couple more years out of it then yes!). Our furnace has been acting up here lately so we gave several companies a call. I can't say enough good things about this company. After coming home from a weekend trip we found that our AC had stopped working while we were gone. I called a different, "big name", heating and air company and waited two days for one of their techs to come to our house. He spent all of maybe 5 minutes here and without really looking at much declared that my system was too old and needed to be replaced. Quoted me a price that seemed extremely high for my small house, took his $60 check and left. After contacting Anthony at wright mechanical he was out here the same day. In the same amount of time if took the tech from the other company to quote me a high price for my new ac, Anthony had already found and fixed the actual issue and had my air back up and going in maybe 15 minutes, even in the dark. I also got a quote from him and to replace my ac and furnace it will cost less than than the other company wanted for just my ac.
