I'd placed an online order at the Custom Store that was hung-up at the warehouse. So, I called the main customer service number and spoke with 2 reps and a supervisor who, instead of helping, actually made the problem much, much worse. Then I called the store location on Michigan Ave. to make an appointment to come in, explain the problem, and get some resolution. I spoke with Heather, the store manager, who was able to comprehend the complexity of the problem over the phone. Even though she was scheduled to begin a vacation the next day, she straightened out the problem and I received my shoe delivery in just 2 days. This is what I call 5-star service and a 5-star product. Amazing customer service and top of the line hospitality from KJ who helped me on a rainy evening. I had a pair of self neglected AE's that were due for a bit of TLC. I was set on getting them recrafted but my wonderful sales associate, KJ, told me that my shoes had still a while to go in their lifespan. Talking me down from the $155 recraft package and towards products to better maintain my beloved shoes. After deciding to purchase shoe trees, polish, leather lotion, and a shoe brush - she then went on to send me off with a shoe box and shoe horns. I've never been the recipient of such kind hospitality and was in awe. She demo'd to me how to apply both the lotion and polish and answered all my eager questions. * Old reliable * Never on the cutting edge, but never out of style. I've always liked Allen Edmonds shoes and appreciate how the company stands behind the product, makes it easy to get them refurbished back to like new when they need it (just mail them in with a reasonable fee and they send them back just like new). I also like the wide (pun intended) variety of shoe sizes they offer. I know that I can always find a pair that is comfortable with them if I order online. At home in Vancouver I can find their shoes in a few stores, but the selection is usually not great. This store is a wonderful thing - every style and size they make under a single roof. I love it! I wish I hadn't come to Chicago with just a small carry-on bag. No way I could fit these shoes into it to take back with me. But the good news is that I figured out which styles I want to order and now can do so without wondering what they really look like in person. Hooray! read more

Visiting from out of town, my bf just bought a pair of beautiful Allen Edmonds and excited to see that Chicago had its very own store we decided to take a look inside. I dont know if it was because we were dressed casually or we looked young or what have you... but we werent greeted when we entered the store. In fact, I was the one to initiate a hello with the two gentleman in the very empty store. We took a look around, looked at his shoes and then went up the platform to see the belts and nothing...no "how may i help you? is there anything i can help you find?" etc. etc. WTF... At first I thought, maybe they just werent friendly or they were tired or they had a busy day.. but then another gentleman came in and they promptly greeted him and even had a full on conversation with the delivery guy while completely ignoring us, RUDE. I felt really insulted and wanted to get out of there. I've worked in customer service and there just isn't an excuse for that kind of rudeness. Yes, the shoes are GREAT, but do yourself a favor and buy them from the amazing sales people at the Nordstroms across the street instead. read more

Saw a pair of shoes last night on Esquire magazine's web site: Black Special Edition Allen Edmonds Even though I live on Ohio street, I had never stopped in the Michigan. ave. Allen Edmonds store. Popped in on the way to the gym and there the shoes were. I had never tried this brand (I've owned Everything from Gucci to Aldo). Kim Ketter gave me an expert fit and is an exceptional salesperson. She is knowledgeable, professional, charming, but never pushy. Exactly what one would want when special ordering shoes in the 300$+ price range. As an FYI, these shoes can be ordered in widths so it is essential to to stop in the store and get measured/Fitted. Highly recommended as the service is excellent. read more

Probably the best customer service I've ever experienced!! When I decided to invest in a quality pair of dress shoes I gave an exhaustive search for style an comfort. That search landed me at the Allen Edmonds on Michigan Ave and I couldn't be happier it did! As a novice, each and every salesperson took the time to describe each shoe in detail and spent significant time helping me try on several pairs. After thorough support I walked out with a great pair of shoes. Unfortunately being a novice, what I initially thought was a good fit turned out to be a bit too small. I went back to the store and they happily offered to give them a good stretch. No charge! Upon receiving the newly stretched shoes they felt great at first but after about a month I came to the conclusion they were just a bit too small. So I took them back yet again and again they offered to stretch them at no charge! Nearly three months after purchasing the shoes I went back to try on the shoes which had been stretched for a second time. They ended up being a bit too small still. The customer service had been phenomenal thus far but I was blown away by the next step, they exchanged my clearly worn shoes with a size up!!! Again at no charge! I cannot give enough compliments to all that assisted me, but especially Kayla, she couldn't have been more of a pleasure to work with! Best shoes money can buy, and extremely knowledgable employees! Was a great place to stop by, already owning 3 pair of Allen Edmonds, to look at some other models and discuss "care methods" with the employees. Found out that the care instructions I was given by a Nordstroms Men's Shoes manager where I bought a couple of Allen Edmonds was incorrect, so it was nice to hear the proper instructions straight from AE employees! The AE store is small but cozy, and they carry an impressive selection of AE shoes. While there's really not much on sale here (unlike occasionally at Nordstroms), the selection is pretty much unbeatable. The best customer service! I stopped in fifteens to closing at the tail end of a holiday weekend (I made sure to stay only 10 mins). I was cared for as if it were 9am and if I were the only one there. I researched the shoes online and wanted to come in to figure out my true shoe size. Allen Edmonds has many sizes, half sizes, and a surprising number of widths as well. I definitely recommend stopping in to meet the staff and finding your correct size. I decided to come again after I finally decided the styles I wanted. Both times I was quickly fitted. The staff immediately eyeballed my foot size and further measured to confirm. Shopping here felt like I was being served by someone at Macy's. I have to report this because I truly care about this company and think that things need to turn around. The interactions I experienced here left much to be desired. The salesman did not seem at all passionate about their product and made me feel like I was bothering them.. I purchased a wallet but almost regret that I did, they deserved no sale. The manager at the Costa Mesa store in California will make you feel like you truly are buying a luxury product. All of my shoes for work are Allen Edmonds. While I found the quality of these shoes to be better before they were purchased by private equity, I still think they make a decent dress shoe. I purchased three pairs in May at the store on LaSalle Street - don't go to this location. One of the pairs that I purchased and have only worn maybe 30 times already had a hole through the sole into the cork. I take very good care of my shoes (weekly condition/shine, shoe trees every night) so this was not an issue of neglect. I went to the store on LaSalle and asked for Rufus who sold me the three pairs. He said there was nothing they could do, that it was normal for the shoes to wear this much and suggested spending $150 to resole them. I left feeling very annoyed and not helped. A week passed and I stopped into the Michigan Avenue store and was helped by Heather. She was fantastic. She looked at the shoes, saw what great shape they were in and agreed they should not have this problem. She even noticed there was an indention on the inner sole that shouldn't be. Heather exchanged the shoes and I left estatic! I will always go to the Michigan Avenue store moving forward. Sorry for your loss Rufus. read more

Good shoes, awful customer service. You're better off buying online or from Allen Edmonds' Outlet. I don't know what the problem is with the people who work at this location but most of them are miserable and unhelpful. I was sized twice and both times the employees came up with different results. None of them explained the difference in lasts and sizes (that I had to figure out myself). They merely plopped down what they believed to be my size and sent me on my way. Not cool. If they're going to be rude, they can at least get my size right. Even the store manager was not helpful. I don't know if it's because I don't look like I have money, or if they treat everyone who comes to their store poorly, but it certainly left with a bad taste in my mouth. I even went as far as to complain to Allen Edmonds customer service about my experiences, but all I got was a typical copy and paste reply. I'm pretty turned off on the brand from all this. I will be looking into other dress shoe brands in the future. AE, If you wan't people to shop at your store, be more insightful and knowledgeable about your products, and don't rush people through the fitting process. Possibly the worst experience in a AE store. Came in to try and exchange a pair I bought online; needed a wider size. Place is a bit small and had 2 other customers inside. I said I will look for another pair of shoes while she checks availability. Came back to the register with another shoe, at which point she left, coming back several minutes later. I asked if my shoe was available in the store, she said "no only online". I then asked if the shoe I was holding was available in the size. She checked and said "No, online only as well". I then asked if another color of the design was available in store to try on. She replied with an annoyed tone "No, I would have offered if one was in hand". Really? How the hell was I supposed to know you checked, you never said anything! I just returned the shoe. which was meant as a replacement for my current AE of similar color and style. Overall I currently own about 5-6 AE shoes that I wear extensively for work. The shoes feel great, wear well and all but several styles are made in WI; which is important to support domestic mfg. Maybe this was her off day, but one would expect a higher level of service in a high end shop; especially one that is in theory a flagship store on the MM. read more

I bought a $400 pair of shoes here and they're falling apart less than 10 months after purchase - soles falling off the shoe. I took them in and was charged $65 to re-sole. They said they couldn't comp because of salt damage and I hadn't used the shoe trees diligently enough. I don't use galoshes but do use shoe trees on the weekends (travel during the week and don't want to haul shoe trees around). I've had much less expensive shoes that held up much better with the same wear and care. Perhaps they're worth the price if you're extremely diligent about using galoshes and shoe trees. However, my experience was that they're not worth anything close to their price tag. read more

While you don't need to rob a bank to own a pair, it helps to have money in the bank. They offer a wide range of very conservative looking shoes, perfect for the boring corporate job. What sets them apart is a very wide range of sizes. If they don't have your size in stock, they can get it delivered to you for free from another location. The shoes are actually easy to get repaired - they are just like any other shoes, but you can also drop them off at an Allen Edmonds or mail them in for a complete refurbishing. I have some pairs that I've refurbished and worn for over ten years. read more

If you looking for your first "good" pair shoe (the kind of timeless shoes that will last you for years and years) of shoes, you couldn't do much better than Allen Edmonds. The are the most affordable of the high end "goodyear welted" shoes (still not cheap though), and they happen to be American made up in Wisconsin. The big plus with Allen Edmonds is that they have a lot of odd sizes in stock. The staff is well educated and will fit you properly in your new pair. If you are going to start wearing dress shoes everyday, you owe it to yourself to get a proper pair of shoes that are built for comfort and the long hall (buy some cedar shoe trees while your at it so the shoes don't develop ugly banding). I stopped by the other day mainly because I had heard good things about the quality of Allen Edmonds shoes. I really had no intention of buying anything, but upon walking in I was promptly greeted by Heather. I'm sure I didn't look like a typical customer wearing a tshirt and shorts and having many visible tattoos, but I feel as if I was treated very nicely (as it should be, but isn't always at certain high end stores). Heather insisted on measuring me out even though I was quite certain I was a size 11. Much to my surprise she told me I was a size 10 E. Brought the shoe out and it fit like a glove. You could really see and feel the quality in the construction. Heather enlightened me with some brand history and informed that the shoes are made just over the Illinois border in Wisconsin. By this point I felt obligated (in a good way) to buy something. Premium customer service combined with a premium product made me feel like this place deserved my business. Even though the shoes will probably last a lifetime I would shop here again in a heart beat, and also recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality product/customer service. read more
