I hired Allen and Sons to remove one tree and grind the tree stump down. It took them 10 months to complete the job and they left a ton of debris in my yard that I will have to pay someone else to remove. This company may be good for large tree jobs, but after accepting the job to remove a tree from my property it seemed like they were too busy to care to complete the job in a timely manner or clean up everything that was cut down from my yard. read more

I made an appointment and wasted my whole morning waiting for them. However, they never showed up or called. I finally called them and they apologized but made excuses instead of actually being sorry. My time is important also. A simple phone call from them would have solved everything. If you are looking for a reasonable, honest, reliable and hardworking company.....you have found it here at Allen and Sons Tree Service. Ben came out and gave us a quote for a large tree that we needed removed...the quote for that and some clean up in the front was very reasonable. Upon further inspection Ben noticed a dead tree in the back as well as some more overgrowth. He was quick at providing us with an addiotional quote to get these removed as well. His crew was hardworking and quickly completed the tasks at hand. They did a fantastic job cleaning up all debris from the area. Ben even went above and beyond and sent us picturws of before and acter as we were away from the priperty. To quote my neighbor " it looks like a completely different property". I highly recommend this company! We had 3 very large trees (including 1 very large and old holly tree) that needed a lot of "love", and this company delivered on every level. They arrived on time and went right to work. Plenty of workers who were all hard-working and professional and took the time to make sure our trees looked great. They brought all the necessary equipment including a bucket truck. Mr. Allen took the time to share his extensive knowledge to care for our trees appropriately. And he listened to what we were looking to achieve. It is truly refreshing to hire a company to do the work you have hired them to do and in the manner in which they performed. I called for an estimate today and was told I have to wait a week. I am within walking distance from the shop by the Parkville Shopping Center. I walked it today twice. I am not sure why it takes a week to get an estimate when I am within two miles of one of your locations. That is poor customer service. On top of that, I work. How else could I afford a house and to get work done on a house? Then, I was given time during work hours. Now, I have to wait a week for an estimate and take time off work all while living within two miles from one of your locations. This is poor customer service and a surprised that this company does not want local business. I also called several times and never got an answer. read more

I used Allen & Sons for work related to storm damage from the summer of 2012 derecho. Ben was very friendly, and his crew got to me as soon as they could given the number of jobs they had due to storm damage. I felt the price was fair. However, some of the work related to 'weed' trees growing in my yard that I asked them to remove and treat to prevent resprouting (mulberry & ailanthus). When the job was done I - not being a professional - couldn't tell whether the stumps had been treated as promised. They all resprouted, and I called to inform Ben of this. He did send a crew, and again said the stumps would be treated. EVERY ONE OF THEM RESPROUTED AGAIN. While I appreciate the friendly and timely service, I absolutely DO NOT appreciate paying for a job done either incorrectly or unfinished. The bill has been paid, I sent a letter expressing my dissatisfaction, and have since heard nothing. In short, I would be very wary of using this company again, and would be very sure to accompany the crew during every phase and question everything. I don't usually complain but this has been very frustrating. I will now have to find another company to complete the job, thus paying again. read more

I am a Disabled Veteran. The owner gave me an estimate on tree trimming, and we came to a verbal agreement. On the day of my appointment, the work crew arrived, but not Mr. Allen. I reviewed what work was to be done with the crew leader, and work began. Approx. 2 hrs into the work, the crew leader said "We're all done, would you like to come and look". I was skeptical, because they finished in 2 hrs, what I thought, and Mr. Allen said, would be an all day job. Upon reviewing the work, I explained in detail what was discussed on the day Mr. Allen came by, and what still needed to be done. The crew leader agreed, and his men went back to trimming the trees. They required a boom truck for one of the trees located near a power line, and the crew utilized this truck for ALL trimming throughout our small yard. There were areas in front of the trees, and over hanging my property, which were inaccessible to the truck, and subsequently, not trimmed. We ended up with trees pruned excessively on one side, and not touched on the other side. I expressed my concern to the crew leader, and to the boom truck operator, and they replied "we can't cut off any more, it's bad for the trees". I accepted this, because the trees in my yard are mature, and I did not want to harm them in any way. The crew did a rush job - perhaps being a Friday, they wanted to go home early. The crew leader also mentioned that "after they were done here, they needed to go back to the shop and perform maintenance on the equipment". Another reason I feel I did not get a quality job was that although Mr. Allen specifically said a person would be CLIMBING into the trees to thin and prune, the crew chose to disregard my request and continue with their quick and easy method - utilizing the boom truck. Upon completion, and although I was dissatisfied with the end result, I paid what was agreed upon. As the boom truck operator was backing out of my yard, he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and destroyed my gate and fence. The driver was unharmed. The crew leader ASSURED me that the damage would be repaired immediately. He stated that he would report the incident to his office, and a handy man that they utilize would be out to my location to see what needed to be replaced / repaired. I have called Mr. Allen MORE than numerous times, and I have called his office - which is handled by his mother. I have also attempted to e-mail the company website SEVERAL times. Mr. Allen kept stalling, saying his fence guy is very busy, and is planning to make it out. It is now a year later and I have hired a professional fence company to complete the repairs. Through many phone calls, Mr. Allen was VERY unprofessional, used very vulgar language, and seemed to fly off the handle with no warning. The MD Attorney Generals office is now reviewing this case, and grievances have been filed with the DNR, and BBB. BEWARE!!!!! Find another tree service, this one's NOT worth the headache! I scheduled an estimate with them to take down a large yew in our back patio. The soonest appointment they had was two weeks out, which was longer than I wanted. They gave me a two hour window and never showed. I called and no one answered. I left a message and no one has called me back. I can't say I've ever done business with a company where they so blatantly snubbed me. I definitely won't be attempting to reschedule with them again. read more

I recently had Allen & Sons out to remove several trees damaged by the recent hurrican this past August 2011. I know I was amoung numerous clients that had to wait awhile before I could get someone out for an estimate. Once I received an estimate the company was out the next day in the rain, they cut down, trimmed and hauled away all debris and grind the remain stumps and pre-existing stumps in my backyard. The job was professionly performed and I was very pleased with t he work. Ben Allen and his team were fantastic. I had a tree limb as big as most trees fall on my house in Columbia, MD. When Ben came out and surveyed the work he made me aware of the dangers I faced. About six trees were growing towards the sunlight. They all had weight over my house that exceeded the weight over their roots. Ben and his crew took out all six trees even though they couldn't take the equipment behind the house. They used a 50 ton crane reaching about 120 feet tall and actually took the trees apart and lifted them over the house! My neighbors were in awe of their expertise as I was. They cleaned up all the remaining trees including cabling two parts of a tree in the front yard together so it was no longer under stress. They got rid of the stumps and cleaned up afterwards. I was very pleased with the cost and what they did to earn it. If you have a need for any type of tree service call Allen and Sons Tree Service. You will be very happy you did.
