I had recently come off from Active Duty with the Air Force as a Personnel Specialist and was presently serving as a Traditional Guardsman in Air National Guard. My intent was to be hired by UNC-CH as a permanent employee. I worked for 6 months as a SPA HR Manager in the School of Dentistry and I transferred to the School of Public Health, Dept of Environmental Engineering for 6 weeks, covering for someone on medidcal leave, handling departmental personnel transactions. That September, I was interviewed and hired as an Administrative Assistant III, managing a couple of grants and several pharmaceutical clinical trial contracts, managing several members of the research team, and overseeing the group's administration. Everything worked out for me. I had regular access to Karen R. and she was responsive and supportive on every call. I don't know if something happened after I left, but I had a great temp experience at UNC-CH and would recommend it as a mechanism to work and bring in regular pay while searching for regular employment. They will tell you how to act and what to say at work unprompted it's extremely unprofessional and I'm still waiting 3+ weeks for my first paycheck when it's supposed to be weekly pay.
