I saw this nearby Ogden restaurant on Yelp and we made Sunday reservations for four, to say thanks. Amazing food. Amazing drinks. Plus they had bottles of one of our favorite reds from Alexander Valley Vineyard. My Chicken Parmesan over soft creamy polenta was unique and fabulous. Had half for lunch next day. Husband loved their take on Beef Stroganoff. Friends had pork chop and a pasta bolognese. Yum, yum, yum. Gourmet comfort food. The corn bread honey loaf. A must. Tasty cocktails and mocktails. Ended w creme brulee and 4 spoons. All as good as it gets. On a lovely western street. Cheers.

Xalisco Tequila Bar is a total hidden gem located right off historic 25th Street!…read moreWhile the food menu is on the smaller side, don't let that discourage you for a second--everything is packed full of incredible, authentic Mexican flavor. But let's be honest: you're really there for the tequila, and it is flowing! The drink menu is so diverse, creative, and plain fun that we had a blast just reading through all the options. The service was fast, friendly, and super knowledgeable, guiding us through the selection. Running into a great friend while we were there made an already awesome night even better. Whether you stop in for a quick drink and an appetizer or settle in for the evening, you will not be disappointed. I'd easily recommend going back multiple times!

I stopped into Xalisco in Ogden on a random weeknight around 8pm and was a little thrown off when I…read morewalked in and the place was completely empty--no customers, no one at the host stand, just crickets. For a second I wondered if they were closed, but someone eventually came out and seated me. That initial vibe had me a bit concerned, but I stuck it out. I started with the chips, corn, and guacamole, which was decent, nothing mind-blowing but fresh enough and got the job done. The Cadillac Margarita ($20) was a disappointment though. It was basically a glass of ice with way too much lime juice dominating everything; I could barely taste the tequila. The Michelada was better, solid and refreshing, and the service was about the same: friendly and attentive enough once they got going, but nothing standout. But holy smokes, that asada stuffed burrito saved the whole meal. The asada was ridiculously tender, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. Juicy, smoky, melt-in-your-mouth beef wrapped in a solid burrito. That one item alone made me glad I came. Overall, the place has some hits and misses. If the asada is what you're after, it's worth it. Just maybe skip the Cadillac marg and don't expect a lively atmosphere on a slow night. I'd go back for the burrito.

Even after that, we waited another long time to even get drinks started and food ordered in. The bartender was super kind and talkative but felt like he had really no care for being attentive. My girlfriend got a buffalo chicken sandwich that really had no flavor and was mostly breading and super messy. I got a shepherds pie but as well the potatoes had little to no flavor.. I think this place has a lot of potential. Maybe it was just a bad night. But I think better service and curating a better palate for the menu can be done. What it is, and what I am rating it on. It is a dive bar, it has sticky tables, (not really) it has pool tables and tacky decor, it has really friendly service and it is awesome for what it is. The crowd can be a little rough and it is a Bar, must be 21 years or older. It has typical bar food, hamburgers and anything you can put in a fryer. But on Thursdays and Saturday Nights, after 6:00PM it is steak night. I usually don't like local grills for steaks, they're usually terrible. But not here, one of the best steaks I've had outside a high dollar steak house. After 6PM it is time for steaks, they close down the other menu items and you have a choice of steak (Ribeye) or steak (Ribeye). You can choose your temperature, I chose MR, and it was probably Med, but that's okay. Comes with a baked potato, a roll and grilled onions and mushrooms. But what stands out was the flavor, so good, place got a little smokey as they grilled. I really like mushrooms and grilled onions, but the steak didn't need em. I took mine off and enjoyed the steak as it was. I did finish the mushrooms and onions as a side. Highly recommend steak night. The salad was plain with cheese and croutons, nothing special. The Potato was cooked perfectly with a cooked crunchy skin, soft potato goodness in the middle. Came with butter and sour cream, I would have liked some cheese, bacon and chives, but it was still good. Lots of food, didn't try dessert. My wife enjoyed her steak too but would have liked some other options, it was a lot of food for her. But lunch for me the next day. Our waitress Zoe was new but very good, very attentive, and very friendly. Well done Zoe. Keep it up Rainbow Saloon.
