An interesting find and a welcome addition to the city. Too bad the menu is so limited.
The name strikes everyone as totally not Korean and it isn't, which to me actually helps this business stand out among the crowd. As well its interior, very not Korean but quite homey and with a lot of character. The staff is very welcoming and friendly too.
The food, although Korean, does not stand out as much. The city doesn't have a lot of Korean restaurants which is why I like the almost novelty of Allegaartje, but it serves the regular Korean BBQ, kimbap, bibambap and mandu. All of which by itself are not quite remarkable and very 'make it in your own kitchen'-friendly. Not saying it isn't tasty, but if you've had any before it won't be very impressive.
The BBQ (€25) does offer some well marinated beef, but that's it. I'm used to getting more than just beef, or at least the option to bbq more than beef alone. The kimbap and mandu or okay-ish. When I return I would like to try the bibimbap, which is fairly priced (€11-12).
For first timers Korean food, Allegaartje will be pretty nice. But for me I rather get something better for the money, or the same for less. read more
