One particular female client was raped and suicidal. I called the Sarasota Police Department (SPD) to take them to COASTAL. She was told they would keep her for a week or two and help her transition to go off the street. They discharged her in three days back to the street. I have many homeless clients who said they were overmedicated and could barely walk when they were discharged. However, now that they were purchased by FIRST STEP of Sarasota, I expect the quality of their services to improve greatly. I am sure it will. A homeless friend I have known for years was recently excepted into their 60 day rehabilitation program which I am very pleased to hear.
