I usually would go to Sarasota Memorial, Downtown, which I do for breast exams, etc. and rate them highly. I will not come back to SMH at University Parkway for a MRI. The person providing the MRI said he was at the end of his 7 hour shift. He was not dressed neatly in "uniform" of any kind, and smelled of BO. I first thought he was a maintenance person. He did not provide assistance in terms of how to negotiate the MRI bed, what to hold on to, etc. Very casual and not engaged in the process. Very unusual from positive experienced I have had with SMH downtown.

I kept this appt because I needed help with joint pain and sciatica...they billed it as wellness, insurance turned it down Did I sy I pay out of pocket for insurance too? oh sure do. The biggest problem is they do less than nothing....here is a doctors office that figured out how to make money by doing nothing. The doctors and NPs are all very kind and knowledgeable - pain management can be intimidating and confusing but I have never had a bad experience with this office. I love working with Dr. Amen - he goes above and beyond to answer questions in a way I can understand during appointments and always makes sure any portal messages are responded to. I went for my first appointment, to get started, and the doctor was not empathetic, and refused to prescribe anything for me. They could not review my chart because their internet was down. I was treated like an addict. The staff were all lovely, but I am very disappointed with the doctor. He ordered an MRI, which I'm waiting to have scheduled. I've never had withdrawals, but I'm terrified. He walked out whole I was talking to him. I am hoping this gets addressed quickly. Any referral I've asked for, she has told me I need to figure that out with my insurance, myself. She breaks everything possible into multiple visits so that billing happens as much as possible. For my last appointment, I had a urinalysis that she admitted she never reviewed, even though it was a severe issue that needed immediate care. I had to make a new appointment a week later to review those results because I still wasn't feeling well. When I told her it was unacceptable that she never reviewed my results, she said "it's Monday" and "you're not my only patient", I said it's been a week and that's a terrible way to treat a patient. She back tracked immediately and said she did review my results and never followed up because she didn't need to. She then began being very condescending to me and even told me she doesn't need to mother me or check back in (and denied telling me to call her if I needed a medication change, as my infection was a tricky one to treat). I again, told her this is very condescending as I was just following exactly what she told me to do. She actually hung up on me during this telehealth video call. She is truly the only PCP that was available when I moved here and it is clear why. The office itself is so gross and creepy. She's cared a lot more about my outfits I wore to my appointments, than my family's colorful cancer history! This was my final straw after her lack of care for 2 years, so this is probably a blessing in disguise for me!

I recently had a health emergency for which a trip to the emergency room resulted in nothing. No care, no prescription, no relief, no diagnosis and inadequate testing. I went to see Dr. Bakus as a walk in the next day and was diagnosed and treated within hours despite it being a holiday weekend. She has stayed on top of the situation. I appreciate the whole spectrum of medicine practiced from modern, to Eastern and in between. Dr. Bakus is thorough, caring and empathetic. Her staff is equally wonderful. They greet you with caring and always remember your situation. The facilities are always immaculate. If I could give a 10 star rating I would.

We are both healthy adults and she keeps insisting on seeing us every three months giving us the same lines and charging our insurance company for office visits. I would recommend finding a family doctor!
