One of the best things about Ann and Victor is that they don't believe in choreographing your first dance.

Best wedding investment! We were dreading our first dance, but Mateo at Arlington Ballroom…read morecompletely transformed our experience. Mateo is warm, patient, and his intuitive approach made us feel at ease. His guidance not only boosted our confidence on the dance floor but helped us stay confident, and connected throughout the day in front of the cameras (looking photographic too with all those practice dips & posture tips too!) When we struggled with certain steps in the routine, he listened and adapted, finding alternatives that suited us. Beyond preparing us for our first dance, Mateo gave us with tools to stay connected leading up to our wedding. His lessons turned stressful days into moments of joy. We left every session feeling ready to take on whatever came our way. And we know we will be using them for a lifetime. We couldn't have asked for a better instructor or investment in our wedding. And yes, the dance went beautifully. We looked amazing, but Mateo gave us so much more than a great show for our guests.

This could be the easiest 5-star review ever I've ever written. Wish I could give more stars!!…read more I started taking private lessons with Dmitri to supplement my weekly lessons with my long-term regular instructor. Although we try to hit all the smooth and rhythm dances focusing on bronze level, we often gravitate to rhythm and cha cha; it's my favorite. Although fox trot pointers helped especially when compared to other moves. Dmitri is a professional. He immediately can assess your weak points and strives to make you a better dancer all while making it a pleasant experience! The room is clean and well lit. There is a pole in the middle that is actually useful for demonstrations ("this pole is me, I am you"). I find myself adding more lessons as the competitions approach and now we are working on a showcase cha cha routine. It was impressive how fast he could think of steps to put together to the song I chose (Fireball by Pitbull). In terms of booking, we use text and he's responsive. Payment is easy through Venmo. We also video tape some choreography so that we can continue to build on it and I can refresh inbetween lessons. He also builds a community feeling with events like a Holiday Party which was super fun. A great value, a fun experience. I highly recommend! Oh and parking is free and easy!

Court House, Rosslyn

Let me introduce you to my eXtend-ed Family (and maybe yours too!)…read more I've been coming here for almost two years, and while I originally came when my former beloved Barre3 studio closed in Clarendon, it now truly is a home to me. I dream about my teachers and friends at night, and I wake up in the morning looking forward to my mid-day workout (I most often take the noon classes). If I haven't been to the studio in a day or two (like when I am out of town) I don't quite feel 'right.' Let me tell you about the teachers: Dana is sunshine personified! Her positive energy is contagious, and her wit and word plays make me laugh out loud. She has a way of making everyone feel welcome and has only positive words to carry us through the classes. Her good-natured cheer and self-deprecating charm belies her intelligence and warmth. Elaine is a mistress of form. Her watchful eye ensures we all move safely and effectively, while offering modifications that cater to everyone. Her passion for teaching shines through, and she genuinely cares about helping each student improve. She is encouraging and helpful and always gives you a reliable workout with a good kind of exertion. Kelly, the owner, pours her heart and soul into this studio. Her classes, along with Stephanie's, are no joke - they'll push you to your limits, but you'll leave feeling empowered and accomplished. Kelly is a tough cookie and I think that the studio's success is a testament to her keen eye for detail (the Bath and Body Works hand soaps will always match the season, for example), her sense of style and her welcomed obsession with cleanliness. Kelly also has a ROBUST holiday decor repertoire for EVERY occasion. Alissa is GORGEOUS and you easily feel her warm embrace as soon as you walk into one of her classes. In Alissa's Barre Camp and Bounce classes, your coordination will be tested, but she always helps you feel totally OK about just doing what you can do and will talk you through every move and choreographed series. Emily is ADORABLE. She has a playful, jovial demeanor and her Bounce classes are my favorite since the trampoline is intimidating to me and she really breaks each move down and builds up slowly so you don't feel lame when you are bouncing like a goofball. Kate is literally a RIOT. You almost don't need any ab exercises since you'll be laughing the whole time, even as you are working your glutes or your triceps. She has an irreverence and wit that has led to me changing my family's weekend schedule so I can attend her Sunday classes. Marti and Tonya are both sweetness personified. Marti has a calm, wise, soulful spirit that is soothing, even as you are sweating. Her poise and grace are the perfect antidote to the early morning screech of the alarm. Because of my schedule, I don't get to take as many of Marti's classes, but when I do, I feel treated. Tonya's Southern accent sounds like mother's milk. She does a great job of coordinating the beat drop of a song to the moves and her workouts can be deceptively intense. Tonya's modesty alleviates any anxiety you might have when you have an 'off' day. "Bless her heart!" There are a handful of teachers that I have not had because I only take morning or noon-time classes. There are also teachers who have gone on to other destinies who I miss dearly (looking at you Colleen!) but every Xtend teacher I've had has been welcoming and taught me something. That's saying a lot since I've been in some form of Barre, yoga or The Daily Method for 20ish years!! Xtend is a place where you grow stronger, laugh often, and feel genuinely good about yourself. The sense of community is truly special - you can tell everyone there genuinely cares about each other. Come join us!

It's a fitness class in a similar format to Springfield's Kazaxe Dance, where you follow the lead of a dance instructor (or as my friend so affectionately coined, "Twerk sergeant"). I attended a Yelp Fitclub event but will be returning to Fete Fitness on my own. I definitely got the feel-good bliss after this intense workout. Bring your own water! And lots of it! You'll work up a sweat, get your heart beating fast and leave with a huge cheesing smile. There's much more flair and style here at Fete Fitness compared to other dance fitness classes like zumba, etc. The dance routines are inspired by Caribbean Carnival with influences of hip-hop, jazz, dancehall and afrobeat. I love it! During Carnival season, the owner also leads a masquerade ball and encouraged costumes and feathers. The building for Fete Fitness is a bit hard to find - it's located above the Fire station on Lee Highway. If street parking is scarce, you can always park at the nearby Safeway. Drop-in classes are $10, and a 5-Class pass pack is $40. It's more expensive than Kazaxe, but it's much closer to me location-wise and more focused on dance.

I love this location. Validated parking in DC is always a win. I really like the instructors who…read moreprovide hands-on corrections unless you prefer not to receive them, who will challenge you and motivate you. I've been complementing my gym workouts with solidcore and has been great for core strengthening but there are daily muscle focuses that are tough too. Membership isn't cheap but I've found having a not-so-committed membership (4x per month) in addition to classpass (for flexibility of either doing solidcore or something else) is a good pace for me. Edit: after reading some reviews, I wanted to say in the classes I've been to, there have been heightened attention from instructors to ensure people have correct form. If you don't, you may get injured. That's with any sport or workout. Also, if you're new, look around to see if you're doing it wrong. Hell, 50+ classes in and I still look around sometimes. Lastly, nearly all the exercises are slow movements. Unless the instructor explicitly says to go fast on army crawls or up downs, you aren't trying to break the record for most reps. Some classes, I've seen people breeze through. First, you're likely not getting a workout and second, you're increasing risk of injury.

I've been coming to Solidcore consistently for the past 7 months, and it's hands down the most…read moreeffective workout I've ever done. I've always been active and played sports growing up, but I struggled to find something that kept me motivated as an adult. Solidcore changed that. With no major lifestyle changes (I work a desk job, eat decently, commute mostly on foot/via transit and still drink most weeks), I've seen a huge transformation in my body. I am probably the most fit I have ever been. The coaches are great - Sam is the best, but you can't go wrong taking a class with Alethea, Sofia or Mary Kate. The vibe is always supportive but challenging, and I actually look forward to going. I also really appreciate how receptive the team is to feedback. On the rare occasion something's come up, they've been quick to address it and super responsive. No substantive complaints about the studio itself - especially considering it's one of Solidcore's lower membership tier locations. It's technically in NW DC, but it's billed at the Maryland tier, which makes it a way better deal than the other DC studios with more expensive memberships. The only thing I'll note is that this location doesn't have a live phone line, which can make it tough to get ahold of someone quickly if something comes up. Not enough to deduct a star, but I do wish they'd fix that. If I had one suggestion for the company overall, it would be to remove cancellation fees and shorten the cancellation window. Life happens, and a little more flexibility would go a long way for members. In short; If you're looking for a fun workout that will push you and actually deliver results, this is it. I even brought my 55+ year-old dad to a class and he loved it. Highly recommend.
