BQ Electric - great people, great company, great service…read more I first contacted BQ Electric in 2021 about upgrades to my home's electrical system, which I deferred for personal reasons. When I contacted them again in 2023, it was as though no time had elapsed. The records were in place along with the technician who gave the original estimate. When the project was scoped and scheduled, everything was completed as specified and completed on time, without a trace of the crew (5) having been there. One of the project upgrades was the installation of a transfer switch, which came in handy on a couple of occasions during short interruptions in electrical service caused by storms. On a separate occasion, BQ installed surge protectors on my electrical system. All of the work was done at fair, competitive prices. This long-overdue testimonial was prompted by my most recent experience. At 1 AM on St Patrick's Day 2026, a severe wind storm knocked out electrical service in our area. The original ETA for PSEG's return of service was 2:45 AM; I didn't see any reason to panic. By 5 AM, it was clear that the damage was more serious, and it was time to fire up the generator. Two problems: I was having a problem with the transfer switch, and when I got it working, the generator wasn't delivering power. I contacted BQ at 8 AM and described my situation. Kaitlyn handled the call in the most professional way, despite having to deal with a very cranky customer. Kaitlyn had our history with BQ at her fingertips, and agreed to dispatch a technician who was scheduled to arrive between 8:30 and 9:30 AM. When asked who the technician would be, she immediately gave me his name, Vincent Lopez. He was not part of the crews that previously did work at my home. But given the caliber of the other technicians at BQ who worked on my home, I was not concerned. At 8:36 AM, Vincent texted me that he was on his way. The text included a clear photo, a short bio, a tracking link, and a phone number. Vincent arrived at my home a short while later; he introduced himself with a smile and a handshake. We spent a couple of minutes confirming the problem, and he got to it. Within a minute, Vincent identified the problems. My mistake was that the generator circuit breaker was not set correctly, so power was not reaching the circuits. And he noticed that the transfer switch had become dislodged, making it difficult to set it correctly. Everything was fixed and running by 9:30 AM. Vincent showed me that the transfer switch could easily be moved into position with one hand. But Vincent didn't stop there. We went through the circuits that I needed to switch on to get the essential functions working, e.g., heating, refrigeration, WiFi, and internet services, and a couple of rooms with lights. Vincent wouldn't leave until I was sure I had the electrical services I wanted and that I knew how to configure the circuit breakers, if and when necessary. Vincent is a personable, friendly, and competent technician of the same high caliber as the technicians at BQ. To my complete surprise, Vincent suggested that I not be billed for the service, to which BQ agreed. P.S. PSEG did not restore service until 5:30 PM. PPS. BQ sent me a thank-you note the next day! When unexpected issues came up, they presented us with a range of options and didn't pressure us into having any additional work done. They also accommodated an additional small job that popped up unexpectedly. Estimates are done via computer software, so you can expect consistency in pricing - they're not just making up numbers as they go along. Overall, I found them professional, knowledgeable, and reliable and would use them again. Electrical work isn't cheap - especially on Long Island - but I think we made out OK given the quality of the work and the amount of time they spent on the job.
