This past weekend, I popped in to check things out and was elated to see samosas hanging in the hot case near the register! They came with a premade packet of green sauce, but I *think* the samosas are handmade. Sure wish we lived closer to stop by on the weekends more often.

The owners are passionate about their mission and so dang nice that you'll be on cloud nine after visiting the space. All of their food is organic and vegan; basically food that you can feel good about! No artificial preservatives, what you see is what you get. My recommendations are the Acai Berry Blast smoothie and the Bliss Bowl, which is spicy tofu deliciousness! I took my first ever yoga class at Fresh Jax. To be honest, I had no clue what I was in for. Afterwards, I felt as if I achieved nirvana. I felt calm and relaxed, almost to the point of a high-like state. For newbies like myself, Fresh Jax has my stamp of approval! Although, they do offer advanced classes for experienced yogis, too. Truly, an eye-opening experience. I need to push myself to come here more frequently, because I felt unstoppable after my initial sessions. It doesn't get better than great people behind a great product. Love this place!

I attended their grand opening and was able to check out the store and studio that day. The yoga studio is huge and their entire staff was super friendly and helpful. They have a retail area with the products they've carried for years plus baked goods, juices, etc. They have some tables set up both inside and outside, too. The atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable. When I attended the grand opening, I was able to purchase 30 days of unlimited classes at a significantly discounted price. I live nearby and they offer a variety of classes so I jumped at the opportunity to check it out. I've taken yogalates and tabata so far and both were great. The instructors are super helpful and encouraging. Fresh Jax is such an asset to this part of town. I feel like places like this typically open out at the beach or in Riverside but I'm so glad we have this gem on the southside.

Also, she makes homemade kimchi and some other mitbanchan which are for sale in a fridge by the cash register--and it's excellent kimchi. Honestly, this is all I come here for, really. The bad: The rest of the store is inferior in terms of variety and quality of products overall compared to New World over on Beach. Check the dates on stuff: some things seemingly have been here since the Joseson Dynasty. The ugly: This store is in a really sketchy strip mall. How sketchy? There's a hella sketchy strip club on one side and a store selling outfits for strippers on the other. Nothing against strippers, but you know, it's just a place that doesn't attract always the best of people to the parking lot. And the building is in rather poor repair, too. However, Soriya Food Market is next to this strip mall and while it also looks super-sketch, it's a lovely Cambodian market and you're going to find fruits and meat items there you just don't find elsewhere. Honestly, I just come here for the kimchi and mitbanchan and because the owners are so nice. I will also get a large bag of rice when here to give them a little more business and their rice is always fine. I am serious about checking dates on other products here though--not being mean, it's just the situation it seems.

Mostly great. The meats and seafood selection isn't all that though, but the dry and frozen selection beats a couple of other Asian markets I've been to in the area. Prices are good too. I'd imagine the piece of meat hanging next to that heat lamp should be keeping it warm. Maybe not? Haven't gotten it in a while, anyway. Kind of hard to spot this place if you have never been. It's behind the Zen restaurant, or whatever restaurant name it's changed to because it's been called 3 different names in the past couple years. Plenty of parking once you find it. Not in a bad way, but in that unmistakable health-food-store aroma that tells you there are herbs, oils, supplements, organic everything, and probably someone blending wheatgrass in the back with spiritual conviction. I walked in thinking I'd grab a couple of health bars or maybe a smoothie, and suddenly I found myself in what felt like a live-action documentary about modern hippie culture. Real hippies. I'm talking long dreads, natural fabrics, calm serene smiles, and an energy that says they own a crystal collection and know each crystal by name. The vibe inside was amazing. Everyone looked like they were on their own personal wellness quest, floating around the aisles with purpose, shopping carts full of things I didn't even know existed. I felt like I needed to level up spiritually just to stand near the kombucha section. And the café area had this cozy, earthy coolness to it that almost convinced me to sit down and contemplate the meaning of life over a smoothie bowl. The whole experience was wild in the best possible way. Grassroots Natural Market wasn't just a store that day. It was a full-on immersion into the hippie heart of Jacksonville, and honestly, it was fabulous.
