I have a home warranty policy with American Home Shield, of which I contacted on April 26, 2017 about my AC unit not working properly. The warranty contracted with All Pro to diagnose & repair my unit. My first complaint is that it took 2 days before they even contacted me in reference to the repair & typically I get a call the same day from other contracted repair companies. I finally received a call from their scheduler on April 28th late afternoon & scheduled appointment for May 3, 2017 between 9-11am. The techs arrived just before 11:00 a.m. and I showed them where everything was located. The guys seemed fairly nice, and they began to work to diagnose my issue. After about 30 minutes or so I hadn't heard anything from the guys as they continued to work, thought it was a little strange but thought nothing of it as I just assumed it was taking a little longer to diagnose my issue. I have a heat pump so, they had to be out at my compressor as well as inside at the furnace. After about 45 minutes to an hour they then both came back inside from the compressor & one asked me if I was told about the ridiculously small amount the home warranty covered on refrigerant. I acknowledged receiving an email from the home warranty company in reference, then asked, "why, did I need refrigerant?" at which time I was told, "yes, we needed to use 2 pounds to perform a leak check & then another 8 pounds to fill your unit for a total of 10 pounds". The warranty company only covers $10 per pound & the cost of the R22 that I needed was $85 per pound (they used 10 pounds $750). I was never told about the diagnosis or given the opportunity to even approve the repair. I was advised of diagnosis, repair, & presented with a bill all at the same time. The techs then proceeded to tell me that my unit had a leak in it, & that they had repaired the leak already and that ALL of my refrigerant had leaked out, so they had to fill it from empty. This is where another issue comes in. (I've contacted other HVAC companies for factual information on how my unit works) If you are familiar with a Heat Pump system it requires refrigerant at ALL times of year to function properly, for heating & cooling. When I made my original call about the AC not working it was warm. However, when ALL Pro came for my repair the Indiana weather had changed once again and we were back in "heat" weather, so my heat was back in use. On the morning of the service call I turned my heat off approximately 30 minutes before their arrival so the unit would not be hot when they arrived (so my heat was working just fine, not emergency heat either... Regular heat, meaning I had refrigerant prior to their arrival because the heat was working). So how could my unit have been "empty" as they stated? Then I was also informed by another HVAC company, that if my unit was empty, the company should have used a gas called nitrous to perform the leak check, but ALL pro stated they used 2 pounds of the very expensive R22 for the leak check. Why waste $170 of refrigerant for a leak test especially if the unit was empty? Again, I was informed that also since the unit was completely empty (according to ALL PRO), there were less expensive R22 alternatives that could have been used to fill it. I was never given any options at all. NOT EVEN THE OPTION TO APPROVE THE REPAIR PRIOR TO IT BEING COMPLETED. After contacting the warranty company about the horrendous bill, I was advised I was responsible for paying ALL PRO anything that wasn't covered under the warranty. They advised me to call the company directly after I mentioned how I was never given the opportunity to approve the repair & just presented with a bill. After calling All Pro I spoke with their scheduler I believe her name was Sarah, I explained to her the situation, she apologized seemed very sincere & told me that her technicians DID NOT follow protocol & were supposed to call in the diagnosis, find out what's covered, then they would contact me to see how I wanted to proceed with the repair. So she offered to contact the owner & explain the problem. After several minutes on hold she advised that she had talked to the female owner & the owner wanted to conduct an investigation & would call me back in a couple days to be fair. This happened on May 5, 2017. After I hadn't heard anything I called the company on May 10, 2017. There was no answer & I had to leave a voicemail & I did asking for an update & call back in reference to my issue. After a few days of no call back, I contacted my attorney making him aware of the situation & requesting advice. I made another phone call to them on May 17, 2017 as I had not heard anything back & left another similar voicemail. My attorney then contacted them on Thursday May 18, 2017 & they advised they had planned to call me back that day. I did get a call from the female owner later that afternoon where she apologized & asked me what I wanted. But, now I don't trust them anymore. read more
