TO The Handyman Service, Contractor License # HANDYHC853M9…read moreBellingham, WA We are pleased with the workmanship of the assigned technician, Dayton, in his fabrication and construction replacing the front porch. The finish work was detailed and site was left clean and lovely. We did experience a single dispute occurring at the end of the project. While we had the verbal assurance from the project manager he would keep us apprised of cost overruns, we received a staggering surprise at the end of project, only with the final billing. When disputes or misunderstandings occur, there is always a lesson for both parties involved. We have learned with future projects to have all our requests in writing prior to implementing and making down payment for the job. Verbal sales statements are never enough no matter how sincerely made. We have learned to demand accounting toward the original contract, and to demand the new estimate of costs of new issues in labor and materials, as they occur. This clearly keeps all parties on the same page. In our case, we expected some cost overrun, but were unaware of the change order resulting in an overall 38% cost increase. While we did verbally discuss some rot issues and the placement of a new support pole, we had no change of order workplan to sign off our understanding of the potential increase in cost range. We are grateful to the owner and the project manager for reviewing our dispute, coming to an agreement for 31% above the final contract amount, after review of receipts and labor log. Had it not been for a breakdown in communication and lack of written understanding for both parties, this job clearly would have been a 5 star!!!!

A big thank you to the Fly Guys for my new roof. And for the repairs to my board and bat siding…read more Owner, Austin, chose to behave with honor by acknowledging mistakes made by his previous company. He made good on his offer to make me better than whole. He didn't have to. I think it shows the strength of his character to own and to make an effort to remedy the past mistakes. Before and while work was in process Austin's office staff or support crew worked diligently to keep the project moving as quickly as possible. They smoothed communication issues and kept me updated. Austin's crew lead by Luis replaced the composition shingle roof with a new metal one. They were super-friendly and courteous. I love the new color! The same is true for the new exterior color. My greatest concern with the previous job was with the board and bat siding. Those concerns were justified by water-stains. Austin's crew remedied my concerns by replacing boards and bats. The previous scope of work was limited to two walls. Austin's crew weather-proofed the bats on all four sides of the house. And finally they stained those four sides with a new, more modern color. All of this was done at no financial cost to me. So thank you again to Austin and the Fly Guys.

We hired Graham to help us prep a rental property in Bellingham for sale. From the moment we…read morereached out, Graham was responsive, respectful, and creative in helping us tackle the tasks that didn't fall neatly in any other bucket. He replaced almost 40 year old thermostats (including sourcing modern replacements); replaced very out-dated light fixtures; replaced almost forty outlets and nearly that many light switches to upgrade them from 80s almond to modern white; among numerous other things. We were tackling this project from afar, so Graham became a de facto project manager. He was communicative throughout the process, and he was fast. We gave him a big list of small things, and he did all of it in three weeks while working around painters and flooring people. Cannot recommend Graham enough for any project you have around your home. He is truly the best around.
