I had a horrific experience with this organizer.
She seemed amazing the first time she came over to help us with our loft area, but there were some red flags that my husband and I ignored.
During the loft organization project, I fell extremely sick with a cold/flu. I contacted Tara the day before to let her know that I was coming down with something, and she told me to see how I felt the following day and get back to her. I was much worse the following day (it was a winter flu), so I canceled.
One part of the plan was that she was supposed to pick up a baby gate for us on the way to our house from Buy Buy Baby. We said we could easily order it and get free shipping, but she insisted that it was right on the way, and it was no problem at all, so she would just grab it for us (for free) along the way. It made no difference to us. In fact, the gate is still sitting in its box from months ago. We did not need it urgently, and could have easily ordered it online or picked it up ourselves. Since she was so cheerfully insistent that it was no problem to pick it up, we said that was fine.
When I canceled for being sick, she decided to use that day to go out and purchase the gate so that she could charge us for an hour of work. She later admitted that she did this as not to lose money for the day that was lost due to my illness. That felt wrong to us. She wasn't going to charge us for picking up the gate before, so why was she suddenly charging us now? She had no policy stating that we would owe money if we canceled due to unexpected illness, which is exactly why she went ahead and charged us $40.00 with the excuse of picking up the gate.
We spoke with her candidly about our concerns (there were other minor concerns as well), and she ultimately said that she saw where we were coming from, and she would drop the $40.00 charge. To preserve the relationship, and because we are genuinely kind people, we split the difference and paid her $20.00 - just as an act of kindness.
Months passed, and we decided to book her again for help with our garage. Her schedule was full, so we waited weeks for her to come. We were so excited!
She seemed angry from the moment she showed up. She went into the garage and just started trashing everything! She grabbed handfuls of things out of boxes and trashed them. She threw away several brand new greeting cards with envelopes stored in a box, an article from an accident that took the life of a loved one, shirts with tags on them, a brand new bag of bungee cords, and the list goes on.
I pointed out that she was throwing - in the trash - items that were perfect for donation (brand new clothing). I calmly also asked her to please let me look at things before she trashed them. She was moving at an alarming rate of speed. She ignored me and kept angrily trashing handfuls of things. I - again, calmly - said, "hold on, I need to look through things. This is an article that I ordered from The Gilroy Dispatch about an accident where I lost someone I loved." I had pulled this out of the trash. This is when she flew into a rage and yelled that she was leaving.
I said, "yes, please leave now."
She stormed off.
I feel truly heartbroken about this interaction. When she left, I was shaking and my heart was racing.
Of course things need to be thrown away and donated - of course! - but I'm the one paying an hourly fee for her time. I needed to move much slower and be included in the decision making process about my own belongings. I don't think that there is anything unreasonable about that.
This woman is extremely unstable, at best. We have been nothing but kind to her, even giving very special gifts to her kids.
Please be very careful if you hire her. She came across as the sweetest, kindest person, but I assure you that she is not. I have unfortunately seen another side of her, and it's nothing that I would wish on anyone.
