As a public school teacher who also cares for my elderly mother, NOTHING stresses me out more than home repairs. Needless to say, when the December rains revealed that I needed a new roof, I was absolutely terrified about the process and cost of getting my roof replaced. I had nine different companies give me quotes. All American Roofing was not the least expensive company to quote me, but John Tescher, the owner, was the most honest, patient, and professional of all those I spoke with, and hiring him turned out to be the best decision I could have ever made! Unbeknownst to me, I had severe cracking on my chimney. John recommended that I get that fixed as soon as possible. Over the course of two different phone conversations, he never once tried to get me to become his customer. All American Roofing has completed a large community flat roof project recently, they have proven to work well with difficult personalities, and they are quick to tend to reported leaks, which makes the homeowners feel heard and cared for. They will also be used for the tile roof portion of the project as they have proven that they can complete the work at a reasonable price with labor and product warranty in place. Don't be turned off by their no nonsense approach to business. If you are looking for fluff and hand holding, then you are in the wrong place and you can pay someone else more for that. We had a small roofing job to do while All American Roofing was working on an extensive project down the street from us. John was able to squeeze us in on a Saturday to make sure we were able to move forward with our project. The roof looks great! The crew also did some repair work on our roof while they were there adding a Solaro fan and O'Hagen vent. The fan is great and runs on solar power. It was a great idea for our garage conversion ADU. Reached out to All American Roofing to fix a metal roof leak that sprung up after all these horrific rain storms our county has been experiencing. John Tescher, the President of this company at first, came off as a gentleman and very eager to please. A company that he either purchased or inherited did this roof 13 years ago, so he was selected to inspect the roof for me before I purchased the house. He inspected the roof of my home, before I bought it and gave the roof a clean bill of health. His workers even did some repair work on the roof and said that in the short term, there are no issues. He did document that the tiles were not staggered properly, according to mfr specs and that the underlayment might eventually dry out and be subject to the elements. I have all of our correspondence that states that he would not worry about the roof and if it were his house, he wouldn't hesitate to move in and not to do anything right now. He also gave me the strong impression that he would take care of any issues that may arise in the near future. To me this was a very nice gesture of good faith. Now that the big rains have come, the roof leaks. One of the first questions he asked me was, "what is your email, so I can send you a price / quote to repair the leak...?" His demeanor completely changed from that nice guy I met a couple of months ago. He then told me to go elsewhere to repair my roof. I would stay far away from these guys. They don't care about their customers and seem to cut corners when it comes to repair...what did your guys do when they were up there a month ago? I've only ever dealt with John Tescher via phone and email, not anyone else . I'm impressed with how quickly he responds to an email. I've used All American several times for various flashing problems on our HOA roofs. They've always come promptly and fixed the leaks well. A few weeks ago they installed two Sola Tubes in my condo. One of them leaked during yesterday's deluge, this was a Saturday, so I emailed John and he said he'd send someone out first thing Monday. SUNDAY afternoon, here's an All American worker at my door - went on the roof, did some hammering and sawing and as he was leaving, the rain came down again. No leaks! It was fixed, and on a Sunday! These guys are the worst. We had them install a Dura-Lock metal roof on our home back in 2002 to replace our aging wood-shake roof. The house is a typical single-story L-shaped house, so the roof design contains a seam that runs from the top of the roof to the gutter along the 'inside elbow' of the 'L'. The new roof was installed such that this seam is only about an 1/8" wide, consequently dirt and leaves get inside the seam, yet there is really no way to get them out. In 2010, the seam plugged up during a heavy rainstorm and we incurred water damage inside 2 rooms in our house. I called to inquire about what to do about it, and basically all I ever got was an endless run-around from 'Doug'. First he claimed that one of the water stains was caused by the skylight that we had put in by another contractor during the installation of the roof. It was not, and the fact that he would attempt to place the blame on someone else without even investigating the problem first-hand should have given me a clue as to what kind of customer service one can expect from All-American. Then he claimed that we needed to remove the ficus trees in our front yard that hang over part of the roof (apparently you're not allowed to have certain types of trees in your yard if you get one of these roofs, something he failed to mention when we was touting the advantages of this product). When I told him that I needed to talk to him in person at my house on this issue and that it had to be on a weekend so we could look at the roof during daylight hours, he told me that he's "really hard to catch on weekends". He made absolutely no attempt to accommodate this seemingly simple request. It's amazing how much more accessible he was when I was cutting him a $17,000 check to install the roof. Bear in mind, I wasn't insisting that he perform any repairs for free, I just wanted to know how to fix the problem before it ruined any more ceilings in our house. He finally sent one of his workers 'Sal' out to look at it. Sal admitted that there's no easy way to clean out the seam, so he charged me $120 to rip off all of the metal tiles around the seam and clean out the underlying trough. The trough was indeed packed in several places with dirt, ficus leaves, and smaller leaves from 2 other trees in our yard as well as leaves from neighbors' trees (have pictures of this). Then, after re-installing the tiles, he added some wire meshing that he thought might help keep leaves out in the future. However, within a few days I could already see that leaves were getting through the mesh and into the seam. At that point, we decided to remove the ficus trees and replace them with a dwarf magnolia. As much as we loved the looks of our mature ficus trees, I had grown tired of having to dread every heavy rainstorm that rolled through the area. To this day, Doug has never even bothered to follow up with a phone call to see if I was satisfied with Sal's services, or if he even approved of the steps that Sal took. And just when I thought that maybe my roof problems might possibly be behind me, disaster struck yet again. During a recent rain storm, the seam clogged up again and not only re-damaged one of the ceilings that I had to repair, but also damaged a small part of the cathedral ceiling in our living room. To me, the whole idea of replacing the old wood-shake roof was to supposedly avoid such costly headaches. So now I'm basically cold-calling every roofer in the book trying to find somebody who might know how to fix my leak. To put it mildly, this roof has been an absolute nightmare. New roofs aren't cheap. My advice is [1] shop around before you settle on a roofer to install one and, [2] avoid these guys at all costs. Hopefully this review will save somebody from the aggravation that we've had to endure with this rather expensive 'upgrade' to our home. KS Camarillo read more

Absolutely terrible. Don't hire them. They destroyed my garage taking off the roof. They left a notice saying I "may" want to cover boxes in my garage because of dust. That is it. Then I come home to find gravel not dust all over my garage, in my washing machine, on baskets of clothes, on my baby things etc. I was 9 days away from giving birth at the time and when I called angry, I was told I can not speak to whoever in that tone. What?!? My things are ruined and instead of fixing anything or making it better you have an issue with my tone. You are providing me a service and destroyed my personal property in the meantime. While I didn't actually use these people, I asked for them to come out and what needed to be repaired because the rains this year caused a nice sized water leak in our second floor ceiling. You should believe the other one star reviews if my experience is indicative of their actual repair work. I called them because we have a stone coated steel roof and the original roofing tile company said they were the official repair roofing company under their warranty for the area (the only ones in the Thousand Oaks CA area). More rains were scheduled to be coming and we were growing desperate since we didn't want our upstairs to be destroyed with a large repair bill. The owner told me that they were scheduled 4 months out (regular roofing jobs). After pleading with him, he said they would see if something were possible and I gave him my cell phone number. Unfortunately, the cell phone wasn't on loud enough for my wife to hear when he called that afternoon (I was on the treadmill and not by my phone for about 45 minutes, but assumed that my wife would hear it). He called the house number too, but never left a message as my wife got to the phone and heard it click. When I called later that day, he said that he was going to have his manager come out during his lunch hour but the "window of opportunity had closed," and why didn't I have the cell phone with me if I wanted his service. I've never heard such a bad attitude from someone in a trade that I though was supposed to be about helping customers. I've never seen a company on Yelp actually get an average of one star. So, bottom line: believe these Yelp one star ratings and avoid this company if you're in the Thousand Oaks area--unless you want to invite attitude problems and bad customer relations--and possible poor repair work too! read more
