I have been taking my own, my wife's and son's cars to Dave at Alkay for years, always a good job at an honest price.

A good mechanic is hard to find and an honest mechanic is even harder to find. If you're sick of…read morechain chop shops like Pepboys and Tire Kingdom where they lie to you first and then overcharge you for the pleasure, I highly recommend Bob's. We have been taking our cars here for years and years and have always been pleased with the staff and service. All work is first come, first serve. No appointments. While some may find this annoying, I actually think it's pretty fair. I recommend showing up early in the morning before they open (8 on weekdays, 7 on weekends) or while the mechanics are at lunch (before 1:30pm), to be one of the first in line. You might have to wait in a line, but it's worth it to get in and out quickly. Also, you can always call ahead and get an idea if they're busy or not and it's worth making the trip. The place is clean and well-maintained. Prices for service are reasonable and they complete the work quickly. No mechanics lounging around, finding other "problems" with your car - they're just fast and efficient. The mechanics are honest and will always come out and keep you updated on the work they're doing. Further proof that they're good people? I can't tell you how many times I've taken my car in for an oil change or a minor issue, only to be told that I didn't need the oil change, or that the issue was so minor, there's no charge. Since when does an auto shop do something like that? It's integrity like that that keeps people coming back. The real gem of this place is John behind the counter. He's such a great guy, always has a smile, and his memory for you and your car is nothing short of amazing. This place has a lot of return customers for a reason, and you'll understand if you go. To sum it up: I wouldn't trust my car to anyone else.

The price was less than half of what the dealership charged me and their wating room is pretty nice. Clean bathroom, small vending machine and a TV to pass the time. They had plenty of employees so the waiting time should never be too long.

I used to bring my car(s) here for years a while back. Over 20+ years ago. Moved away, came back…read moreand was delighted they were still in operation. Wanted to get some maintenance and work done on my vehicle so I brought it in a couple weeks ago. I called in advance to ask if services were available and was told yes. I arrive that morning and I'm told that I'll have to wait because the mechanics needed to get their certifications/licenses and to come back in the afternoon and they might be available. Okaaaaaay. I ended up not coming back because I had a a schedule to keep. I didn't want to write this review but this latest incident bothered me. This morning I brought my car in hoping to get an oil change and tire rotation. As I walked towards the entrance of the shop one of the mechanics was walking out of the service bay and we passed one another. I greeted him and he ignored me and kept on walking. I thought to myself, ok he must be busy or just having a rough start. Cool, we all go through something, right? I walk into the lobby and it's empty. It's about 9:00am. I see the mechanic I walked past in the service area with another mechanic. They're talking. I wait in the lobby until one of them comes in to help me. Several minutes pass and they both look at me individually and continue their conversation. Then they both attend to one of the cars in the bay. I know they saw me in the lobby. They both liked right at me. I thought, ok, I'll go to them. I exit the waiting area and walk to the service bay to get their attention. " Good morning!" I say, getting their attention. They both turn to me. "Are you guys doing oil changes today?" I ask. The worker I passed earlier says "Yeah. Why, what's up?" "I...uhhh, I'd like an oil change, please." I reply. He looks at me and says "Yeah, you'll have to wait until my boss comes back." I was confused by this statement, but ok. I looked at the other guy standing next to him and he just looked back at me. Not a word. I was irritated because this is the second time I was turned away when requesting services. And for such odd reasons, I just don't understand it. Help me understand. Is the business open for...business? Do you pick and choose who you want to service any given day? Years ago, I never had any issues with servicing my vehicles. I get it, businesses get busy, workloads can overwhelm employees. But it was a Monday morning and not a soul around. The previous attempt thwarted because your service techs needed to get their license or something-or-another? I don't get it.
