The food at Alioli was surprisingly good. I'm not sure what I expected...maybe something a little more touristy? The restaurant is located right on one of the most touristy shopping streets in the Centro Historico of Querétaro, and there are a number of places nearby where they are just hustling the out-of-towners to come in. We got lucky. We stepped up to look at the menu of Alioli and a customer sitting inside looked out at us with a big grin giving us two thumbs up, and then pointed to his food before repeating the gesture. As a result of this friendly stranger, we decided to give the place a try. Every part of the meal was great, staring with the saucy amuse bouche and the bread, which was warm and fluffy. We followed that with the croquettes as an appetizer. After the waiter brought these to our table, I was kind of waiting for them to come back with a dipping sauce (common for croquettes), and was a little disappointed when he didn't. Yet, I was hungry, so I bit into one anyway, and realized that these croquettes don't need anything else. They're excellent. We finished with two meat-heavy entrees. My wife ordered the bull tail, and I had the pork back. Both were prepared so that the meat was so tender it basically melted in our mouths. My only complaint would be in reference to the music. About halfway through our meal, a live musician began playing and we could barely hear one another talk...Yet, in the end, all of this plus drinks came to under $40 USD! Great food and great value! read more
