Serenity Mental Health is an unprofessional, UNETHICAL, money-grab scheme of a business. If you're…read morelooking for answers & actual help, look ANYWHERE else. I was referred here by my general care practitioner (who assured me she will not be sending any more patients here after my experience), to receive counseling & medication management for debilitating depression, anxiety, and ADHD, as well as to sign a leave of absence form for my job until I can find a treatment plan that helps me to function again. I have never received any type of mental health treatment and was anxious, but trusted my doctor knew what was best. The serenity team was plenty nice on the phone at first but I thought it was odd that the receptionist tried to sell me on ketamine before I'd ever stepped foot in the office or met with an actual professional. I was assured that my insurance would cover the appointment, however, when I arrived, I had to pay $378 before I could be seen and was told insurance will likely not cover any treatment they offer. Whatever, I paid because I truly needed the help. I had the form I would need signed faxed over to the fax number provided to me by the receptionist herself, but upon arriving at the office, I was repeatedly ignored when I asked about the form and when I didn't drop it, the doctor tried to tell me they didn't have a fax machine?? WE WALKED PAST IT on the way to his office. I talked to 5 people during my appointment: the receptionist, 2 techs, the doctor, and the office manager - every single one of them gave me a whole sales pitch for ketamine. It was unsettling and I felt like I was being coerced to try something that I already made clear I was uncomfortable trying, but boundaries be damned I guess! During my appointment, Dr Holzhouser was extremely unprofessional, made derogatory remarks about my answers to his questions, and made no real attempt to get to know me or help me find answers. He asked strange questions that made no sense to pass the time and would stare out the window in silence for MINUTES at a time before asking the next question. It was so bizarre and uncomfortable. I felt like I had to plead with him to listen to anything I said, when he's the psychiatrist!!! He was cold, uninterested, and made ZERO attempt to make me feel cared for in the least. He asked me multiple times about my financial situation, how much money my husband makes, and if we could afford treatment out of pocket because I would have to "give an arm and a leg to get insurance to cover ketamine." After I expressed that money was tight and I really only wanted counseling anyway, he asked me if I had a "rich uncle who loves you and can pay for ketamine." Like WHAT. I nearly walked out of my appointment after that but was still hoping he'd AT LEAST sign my work form. Dr Holzhouser was getting visibly annoyed with me that I wouldn't agree to ketamine or TMS and told me I'm not taking my own wellness seriously and that I "wasn't worth it" to keep on as a patient if I wasn't paying for those treatments. After I expressed for the hundredth time that I was not interested in ketamine, he called in the office manager for reinforcement. They discussed, in front of me, what they could do to convince insurance to cover ketamine so I'd try it. They discussed bumping my dose of fluoxetine, which I'd been on for THREE DAYS, from 20mg to 80mg AND adding an adjunct medication on top of that, then trying to speed run me through 2 more meds as "proof" for my insurance that I have "treatment-resistant depression." Mind you, I've NEVER IN MY LIFE BEEN TREATED BEFORE. I expressed that their plan made me nervous and I wanted to give the starting dose a chance to work. The doctor rolled his eyes. I made a last-ditch attempt to get my form signed since I clearly wouldn't get any other help from them, and I turned to ask the office manager about getting the form filled out. The doctor butted in and said it's against policy for them to sign it if I'm not on ketamine treatments and I called out his bs, which pissed him off. I said all you need to do is sign the form saying it would be beneficial for me to take a break from work, which is a desperate measure for me, and he SNAPPED at me and raised his voice, saying he wasn't referring to my job's policy, he was referring to their office's policy, in a tone that implied I'm incompetent. The office manager tried to mediate the situation and said he would figure out the form and call me back tomorrow, and escorted me out of the office. The following day he called to tell me that Dr Houlzhouser would be happy to sign my form now if I first agreed to do ketamine treatments - a literal ULTIMATUM????? I'm a very patient person but I lost it on him. I paid Serenity $378 to induce a mental breakdown lol. Long story short, serenity does not see humans who are seeking help, they see an opportunity to exploit mental illness for their own gain. This company is corrupt and should not be in business.

Horrible experience and ended up walking out from my first appointment. All they want is to get…read moreinto your wallet and push ketamine on you. I did ketamine before going to Serenity and it's a short term fix for mental wellness. Plus they over charge compared to other places.

So bad that they changed their name to Lifestance. Still just as bad. Scheduling is a nightmare.read more

Unprofessional and rude…read more My sister was being seen for anxiety and depression. In the 9 months she tried to receive counseling and medication, her appointments were cancelled three times! All because the doctor was unable to make the appointment. She was also unable to receive a prescription for medication unless she had at least two counseling appointments scheduled, even when they had kept canceling. They won't accept any recommendations from counselors outside of Ascendent for medication. For someone who needed help and took the tremendous step to get treatment, she was met with hostility and inflexibility. When she needed a refill on her single prescription, she had to call 4 times over a week before she was able to talk to a person and not an answering machine. The receptionist then said that they would not be able to give her a refill until she'd had another appointment. Then my sister was told that her provider had LEFT the practice with all her records, then returned! It was disorganized and chaotic and with no apology offered for the confusion, my sister is done being offered zero help and is ready to find another provider. Hopefully one who can actually keep appointments. She does clarify that Natasha (receptionist) and Celeste (counselor) were very kind and professional. My sister was glad to have been in their care. But with all the other issues, it's just not worth it.
