She could not have been more kind and warm; I'm so sad I didn't get her and the owners' names (but her daughter also owns the jewelry store across the street!!). Olive & Slate is a must-shop. Instantly the scent of one of their candles hits your senses and you're drawn in. They sell these awesome robot pieces made of metal and tin and are painted and out together by locals. They also sell flour towels with amazing quips on them (see pics below - they're only $7!!), and Mud Pie products that you canNOT love without. You gotta go visit. BRING YOUR MONEY! Buyer's remorse is NOT a factor here!

There are numerous items (like coffee mugs) styled with clever sayings. There are candles and pots, note pads, and ceramics. Near the entrance is a 3' long "Woodie" station wagon car filled with products. I've never seen anything like it! The mix is eclectic, but somehow the owner has a good sense of style and taste to make it look like it goes together. She was glad to assist if I had anything in particular that I was looking for too! Just another cool shop to stop by when downtown in Muncie! Review #2620

The land was later purchased (1917) by Frank Ball, of the Ball Jar Company and became part of his estate. The shop is filled with Indiana themed items that you can't find anywhere else. They have wonderful Bob Ross themed gifts, books, paint kits and even wigs if you want to do Bob Ross impersonations. Another shelf is full of Ball jars and assorted canning equipment. There were even lovely, hand crafted earrings made from old Ball jars. Local Amish popcorn and other Indiana goodies filled shelves. Garden decor and narwhal themed toys were featured. A clerk welcomed us as we entered and offered assistance. Supposedly they sell sandwiches, but I didn't see a counter for them. I did see a freezer with ice cream bars. Patio seating with umbrellas were in an outdoor area in front. The building is accessible and parking is abundant. This is a perfect shop for Indiana themed gifts.

I visited this weekend to see the work of this iconic glass genius and nephew of the great St. Clare glass legends. Elwood is known for the glass factories that thrived mid 20th century. Members of the St. Clare family have made decorative glass items since 1890s. During my visit, Joe and artisan, Matt, were demonstrating glass blowing and other techniques at the shop as part of the Elwood Glass Festival. Joe has been making glass since he was twelve years old and his work is exquisite. The shop is tidy. I purchased five spectacular pieces of glass signed by Joe from his little gift shop. Joe's wife runs the shop and was super friendly and wrapped my treasures with great care. In a back room, St. Clare family pieces were on display along with family photos. Joe is proud of Elwood and it's history. He sent us to look at several historic sites. There's parking on the west side of the building. There is a public restroom. Call before you make the trip to make sure they are open. Prices were very reasonable. Can't get much more local with lovely craftsmanship.
