Don't expect it to be large, it is only one in room, but they expect to have local artwork on the walls soon and might possibly consider expansion at some time in the future. For a little shop though it has some charming items and yes, it was hard for me to get out of the shop without buying something for myself. (I succumbed!) One of my favorite things about this shop is they are selling items made by local artisans. I love not only shopping local but supporting local people. Quilted items, maple syrup, jewelry etc. There is one issue, however, and that is parking. It is very limited but if you find the parking lot full then take advantage of on-street parking. Just don't park in spaces intended for nearby businesses. Not cool.

The stand alone shop is near the entrance of the Menards on the south side of where I-69 passes Anderson. It has its own gravel parking lot with plenty of spaces. Kokomo Opalescent Glass is America's oldest glass manufacturing company. They began manufacturing…read morecolorful sheet glass in 1888 and, today, produce 75% of the world's stained glass. I took a tour of their factory today. Tours are available weekdays by calling their office. The 45 minute tour costs $6 for adults and $3 for students. The tour starts and ends in their small gift shop. We visited and saw demonstrations of molten glass moving from furnaces to make sheet glass. We learned about how they mix colors and recycle waste glass. We visited their warehouse and learned about the different qualities of glass and how the glass is shipped. Finally, we saw artisans making decor pieces from the glass. Our tour guide was friendly and interesting. I had trouble hearing her in the furnace room, but still was able to follow. Closed shoes must be worn (no sandals). They provide safety glasses. We found ample parking in their lot. Restrooms are available on site. The buildings are ancient and interesting. The furnace building holds a beehive furnace that was interesting, but is no longer operational. Worth a visit to this Indiana treasure.

Everyone in both places is always so kind and chatty, and I always come away with loads of incredible glass for a ridiculously low price. Well, this year we decided to stop at Kokomo on our way home. We wanted to see what it was like, and I'm just in love with their vertigo texture and was hoping to pick some up. Y'all, it was honestly so disappointing. The selection was not great but the prices were through the roof. I had some money leftover with what I had saved from the first two sales so I did end up buying a few pieces of glass, but I spent as much there on about 3-4 square feet of glass as I did at wissmach buying 10x that much glass! It was my choice to still make the purchase even with the high prices so I won't hold that against them, but I still wouldn't recommend them based on customer service. From the person who wrapped our glass, to the person who checked us out, it just felt like they couldn't get us out of there fast enough! Maybe we're just spoiled with the friendly, kind, passionate glass community that shows up at wissmach/youghiogheny? Three stars because I still love the vertigo texture they offer, and the glass isn't bad quality.

She could not have been more kind and warm; I'm so sad I didn't get her and the owners' names (but her daughter also owns the jewelry store across the street!!). Olive & Slate is a must-shop. Instantly the scent of one of their candles hits your senses and you're drawn in. They sell these awesome robot pieces made of metal and tin and are painted and out together by locals. They also sell flour towels with amazing quips on them (see pics below - they're only $7!!), and Mud Pie products that you canNOT love without. You gotta go visit. BRING YOUR MONEY! Buyer's remorse is NOT a factor here!

The other thing I have to mention is they will add tissue paper to your little brown paper bag and dress it up, if it is a gift and then you don't have to bother wrapping it yourself! They said they had the perfect thing and that they could offer us a 25% discount to bring the cost down to our budget amount, making our total $70. She received a potted hydrangea that looks like it came from the grocery store, with a bow stuck on it. These cost $12-$13 in the store! We will not be using this business again and feel grossly taken advantage of.
