I love this place, but I hate how it's already packed and at "full capacity" by 10:30pm, although the place really isn't even that crowded during that time. It's a smaller space, but has a full bar and it's nice having the option to dance if you wanted to. The music has always been appealing to me (mostly top 40s and hip hop). The crowd is young and dressy, and the drinks are a bit pricier but are still tasty. The free coat check in the winter is great, and the heated cab stand outside is a nice touch (that makes you actually want to go out in the winter)! Fun and lively on friday and saturday nights! I would recommend coming here at least once while you are in Boston. read more

Alibi is the ground floor bar at the Liberty hotel. Usually I avoid going there because it has a low ceiling, is very dark and has too many people there. It takes forever to get drinks there too however, I like their outside patio, It has a nice seating and has wait staff to bring your drinks and food there. This review is to compliment one of your door staff members name Jalen. Once in a while, I go to upstairs Lobby bar on Mezzanine level but three times I've been to Alibi, Jalen was there. Each time he welcomed me with a smile and remembered me from previous time. He is friendly, professional and knows how to treat people matters. Thank you Jalen for your wonderful hospitality. read more

Drinks were pricey but tasted great. We really liked the atmosphere both indoors and outside.

Our waitress was so great but the food took awhile to get. We got kicked out by someone who came up to us saying are you aware that our DJ is coming at 10 pm and is setting up where you are sitting? Even though we were never told and the reason we were there so long because our food took forever to be delivered. read more

I had the misfortune of attending a birthday celebration at Alibi on a Saturday night. I'm not sure where to start ranting. I guess staff is as good a place as any. The door staff seemed to have some sort of god complex and where nothing short of rude and arrogant while speaking to people waiting in line to get into the bar, luckily I was with some one staying in the hotel so I got to jump the line and deal with the doorman inside instead. The indoor doormen were in fact the only friendly staff I encountered all evening. The bartenders were less then attentive to any one who was not sitting right in front of them making it difficulty to get drink if you didn't have a seat at the bar or at a table with a waitress. The drinks were mediocre at best and certainly not worth the $13 patrons are charged. I ordered a side car it was weak and the sour mix used seemed to be low quality making the drink more syrupy then it ever ought to be. I did not try the food but from what I have heard it is not much better then the drink I had. The clientele on this particular Saturday night seemed to be a mix of 30 year old men who never out grew the frat boy mentality, Euro trash ( not the fun kind) and girls who really wanted to be Paris Hilton ( who did actually spend time at Alibi when recently in Boston). The decor could have been better. It's cool that it is in the jails old drunk tank and some of the art work is interesting enough but the most of the mugshot posters are lacking, I don't want to see a coked out Lindsy Lohan staring at me while I'm drinking. If I could have had my say in picking mug shots for a jail themed bar I would have gone for classics like Al Capone and Bonnie and Clyde. The place just seemed like it was trying to hard to be a trendy LA style night spot and all I have to say about that is "This is Boston not LA" read more

I couldn't quite make sense of my experience here - it was a hotel bar with a relatively uptight and polished crowd, the music was too loud for talking (mostly old-school hip hop- think Biggie, 2pac and old times Jay-Z) and yet there wasn't exactly a dance floor...?!??!! What am I supposed to do here, marvel at the mugshots? (By the way, most of the people featured in the mugshots were charged for DUI, which was only fitting if not cautionary at a bar) This place definitely lives up to the standards of a hotel bar. Very nice door staff and security (opened doors, politely asked for ID's, greeted us and sincerely wished us a good time), nice bartender (she SMILED! for real! no sarcasm here), attentive waitresses and even concierge that helped us grab a cab when we left. The mugshots and prison idea was gimmicky but done nicely. Dim lighting definitely helped set the mood in there. It was a very intimate space with exposed bricks and candles. There weren't a lot of tables and they are first-come-first-served. The crowd was in their late 20's to late 30's and very polished. Most guys were wearing button downs with sweaters, if not a suit jacket. My friend and I grabbed a table right when someone left, only to get death stares from 2 cougars. Oh well, too bad for you. The music was too loud though; we had to scream at each other from across the table. Drinks were good, I just had a standard dirty martini and my friend had cosmos. Good quality and expensive compared to other bars in Boston - which is expected for a hotel bar. It got really crowded past 11:30 and people started lining up because the bar was at capacity. You can either stay in line or go upstairs to another bar, which was much more spacious with very high ceilings. read more

Sweet merciful crap, the bartender we had at this place was gorgeous. i didn't get your name, perfectly stubbled, soap opera star looking drink man, but my friend and i spent a good part of our night there oggling you, and i am not ashamed! My friend and i decided to get dressed up a bit two Friday's ago and check this place out after all the hype we'd heard. it poured rain, and we got there early, so we were able to miss the much talked about long wait to get in. i have to say, i was impressed with the interior. dim, lots of exposed brick, cool photos on the wall. the old original jail doors are awesome! there was an interesting mix of people ranging from 20 somethings to much older. we scoped it our for a few and noticed that the majority of people were drinking wine or fancy martinis. my friend and I happen to be beer girls. we ordered two and i cringed while waiting for the total. 8 bucks! that's right, 8! 4 dollars a beer in a fancy shmancy kind of place is ok by me! we hung out for a while as the place progressively got more crowded. we noticed a bit of a line forming outside. after one last oggle of the bartender we decided to make a few people in line's night and head over to the Beacon Hill Pub. sitting in the BHP with a cheap pint of light beer in hand, we both realized that as much as we wanted to be into the "IT" scene we are just the dive bar type at heart. i really did like Alibi though, and i think at some point i'll give it another chance. and NOT just because of the bartender...really...i swear... read more

Great place! Try and beat the rush though.... Or it's a long wait for drinks!

Really cool place. I mean: the place is really cool, but what's going on in it isn't. Drinks are mediocre at best, way overpriced and watered down - and a price complaint coming from LA should be a statement by itself. Not gonna leave a 10 pages review here, just a few words: get in, take a pic of Kiefer Sutherland when he got a DUI, and get out. That's the only thing you should do. No alibi for that place. read more

Such a great bar, a great space, great atmosphere and drinks! I work in the neighborhood, and this has become my favorite 'happy hour' bar. Yes, I know we dont have happy hour, per say, in MA - but I have never been in the bar past 10 pm, and see it a lot as an after work bar. The space itself is great. It used to be the 'drunk tank' when The Liberty Hotel was still a prison. Great brick walls, high ceilings, and iron bars show off its former life... and ad an oddly warm and comfortable environment. The walls are also decorated with lot of mugshots of celebrities, etc. Its pretty cool! It is not an overly large place (in nice weather, there is an outside balcony), but good for singles, couples, and small groups. if you can, go to the back corner, there is a nice small section for two people. great if you are on a date. Plus, it has super high chairs that seem like thrones! 9and are comfortable). Just a great place to relax and enjoy a drink or two. I have not tried any on their 'specialty' drinks, but they make a great grey goose dirty martini - and offer olives stuffed with blue cheese instead of pimentos - a bonus in my book! The service has ALWAYS been top notch, and the cliental normally matches. If you want a nice, upper scale place to go out for drinks post work, or even later at night - it is definitely worth a check. Prices are in line with other Boston area bars of this nature, and the environment makes it 100% worth it! (and if you drink to much, you have a hotel to stay in right there, and the MGH redline is right out the door!) read more

I love this place i cant believe i am reviewing situations that are blurry in my mind. Well first i must compliment the wait staff being friendly and engaging (plus they are all hot). The drinks are amazing im not a martini guy but i have had a few while visiting. The best thing to do is grab a table or sit outside while its sunny get some truffle fries and enjoy the scene. If your not cool before you leave drink some more until you are the coolest mother F*r on the planet. read more

Created this account specifically to write this review. TL;DR: a waitress assaulted my fiancee by throwing a drink on her. This is usually a fun place with good drinks and all of my experiences, save Friday night, have been positive. However on Friday night we had our first bad experience. Our waitress decided that she would express displeasure with our company by pouring a drink on my fiancee (yes, she literally threw a drink on my fiancee). The reason? None given. However our speculation is that the tip, which accurately reflected service and quality was unacceptable to her (drinks were not up to par with what I've become accustomed to and certainly not worth the $18 they charge). So if you go, watch out because there might be some vigilantes who deem a certain level of compensation is required regardless of service provided. I mentioned this to the manager as I was getting the heck out of there and wrote an email to the contact on the website but haven't heard back. Never have I been to an establishment where I was literally assaulted in the criminal sense by the staff. Beyond absurd. read more

I had some time to kill on a Thursday after work, so I decided to check out a new spot. Just as so many have said before me the building is impressive. Since I went straight to the bar I couldn't get a sense of the overall size of the room. Service was prompted and courteous...I didn't get anything too fancy, just an amstel light which was priced the same or less in some cases as bars in Downtown Boston. I can definitely see how on a Friday or Saturday evening the place can get pretty crazy. read more

I had a great time here. Nice outdoor seating. Gets pretty busy in the evening. Dress however your feel comfortable, some will be dressed up, others dressed down. Good mix. read more

Alibi - This was the amount of people - Lounges Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

One of my favorite bars in Boston! It's pretty swank and classy, the cocktails are great and the DJ is always good. I wish the place was bigger though because it always feels so congested in their. My advice would be to get there early. This place has super long lines and sometimes it gets so packed that they only allow hotel guests in past a certain time. read more

The staff here was highly disrespectful and seemed to get off on having power over other people. Maybe they should hire people who do not have insecurities that they overcompensate for by treating customers rudely read more

Really weird vibe honestly. Inside is reserved for eating and there is very limited standing room both outside or inside. Tables are reserved for bottle service starting at 10 leaving even less space outside. read more

A unique spot to grab a drink and enjoy either the club scene with a DJ or on an outside patio. Alibi has both. You can dance inside to DJ music or be low key outside on the patio. On the weekends there's a good crowd so either area is a louder kind of nightclub. One of the bars on the property of the Liberty Hotel you can't help connecting the feel of the clubby debauchery with the haunting of the former prison vibe. read more

Trendy and gorgeous space with a captivating concept (pun not intended). My first time dining here I made reservations for myself and two colleagues who were visiting Boston. I chose the Alibi, despite having never been, because I was looking for something with a very sui generis experience to impress my friends. Well, mission accomplished. We sat in the outdoor dining area just after sundown and it was so casually glamorous. We came here primarily for drinks, but the server was very assistive in checking with the kitchen to let me know which appetizers could be made vegan. In the end I ordered a bread basket sans dairy alongside several glasses of Kim Crawford. The bathroom was sort of difficult to locate, so save yourself some time and ask the staff for directions. read more

I really enjoyed my experience here. The atmosphere is extremely unique with the jail bars and celebrity mug shots. The drinks were wonderful, but the food was surprisingly delicious for such a small lounge! I had the truffle fries and the olive oil pasta and both were amazingly good! read more

This place was so cool! What a great idea! A prison that has been turned into a hotel, restaurant and bars. The bar is called "Alibi" and has a great atmosphere. Little on the pricey side for some drinks but the patio is amazing with the fire pits! read more

I was misinformed and told this was a lounge, but upon coming here I felt that it was a bar with the semblance of a pseudo dungeon that just so happened to be aligned with couches. More casual than expected, but a place that one may want to start the night in for a drink or two and then go their separate ways. Music was ok, top 40, some hip hop, the usual, not much dancing though if that's your cup of tea. Meh, more like a 2.75. read more

Food and beverage were excellent. Service was on par with what I suspected. Last minute reservations and they did not disappoint.

My friend and I had a GREAT time here!! The atmosphere is awesome, the layout is super cool and vibey, and the drinks were great. The bartender Nolan was hilarious and very enjoyable read more

The cocktails and food at Alibi were top notch. It was a busy night, but the servers and manager were working hard to accommodate all of the patrons. Hats off to the manager who was doing everything from running drinks and food to clearing and wiping down tables. We will definitely be back! read more

This place is the ultimate in cool and great for meeting friends and date night. Stay away from their specialty drinks - neither the Hot & Dirty Harry dirty martini, nor the Jailbait Mojito struck us as not very good (sorry). The skewers though were delicious. We tried the lamb/riata & chicken/curried and enjoyed every bite. The arugula salad also was quite good. Service? Meh. At least our table. Everyone else seemed to be getting a lot of attention. We had to wait 20 minutes for our check. The server was apologetic saying that there was an emergency ... we did see someone on the floor, but again ... it didn't seem to affect anyone else. We definitely would go back. Outstanding ambiance, comfortable couches and outstanding bites .... what's not to like! read more

Delane was an attentive server. The food is great. Ambiance is perfect. Service is fantastic!

This place is decent, but it's super tiny, and somewhat expensive for what you get. You need to get there early if you have any prayer of getting a table or a seat on a couch. They do have wait staff that comes around, which is handy considering the bar area gets super packed and is hard to maneuver through. There is no bathroom in this place, you have to exit the bar and go to one of the bathrooms in the lobby area. I hear that now they make you get some kind of a token thing? Odd... don't know what that's all about, by my assumption is so that you can't cut the line and just say that you were at the bathroom... but... I've never experienced a line here. It's been a few months since I've been, so I'll have to go back and see how things have changed! This place does get credit for the interesting decor since they play on the fact that this used to be a jail and have mug shots of celebs on the walls. They're entertaining the first time that you're there. read more

Alibi Lounge is on the 1st floor of Liberty Hotel. Gents need to wear pants/jeans and shoes to be admitted. The venue still retains jail cell bars and has funny celebrity mugshots posted up with entertaining fake quotes accompanying them. My local Beantown friend, Cindy W., gave me the tour this past Friday. Alibi has a DJ and an outdoor courtyard, but I prefer the upstairs Clink. more. Clink. is less stuffy and less crowded. Alibi is definitely worth checking out at least once though, especially if you're from out of town. read more

I've always had good drinks at Alibi and the music is solid. On most weekend nights you can run into a solid group of people from Boston - but there are definitely some nights where the scene turns Jersey Shore or Cougar Kingdom... The drinks are average priced for Boston, and when I was there last night the cocktail server Desi (sp?) was awesome. Oh Liberty Hotel, I will be back. read more

I've been here a few times. I love the vibe here and the atmosphere. The name is very fitting. The metal bars coming down the windows and the loungy chairs are great. The further back you go, the more dirty the chairs were and so, i hesitate on sitting on them. The bar staff are pretty friendly. The drinks are pretty good too and the garnishes are fresh. Space wise, it's not very big but it looks and feels cozy. read more

I really like the decor and theme here so I'll give them that. This bar is located inside the Liberty Hotel and I guess parts of the hotel & bar used to be a prison, hence the theme. This place seems really upscale and I've heard they have a dress code which I don't really get. Maybe it's just me but I find it rare for lounges (which is what I would consider this to be) to have a dress code. Normally those are reserved for clubs or nice restaurants? On that note though, one of our friends was able to get through in flip flops and I came straight in casual work attire with a backpack so maybe they aren't that strict after all. It's obviously very pricey here. Drinks are around $15 (+2 for tip maybe) so you're looking at nearly $20 a drink. They're ok...sure they're fancy and taste decent but I think you can get similar drinks at other places in more of the $10-12 range. Also a nit picky thing: the table our group picked in the back right was one of the only ones that didn't have a light, making it extremely hard to see the menu. The waitresses/bartenders don't seem to be the friendliest either. I think overall I just didn't have a solid good or bad experience here. It is very much a 3-star "meh" place. read more

I have been coming to the Liberty hotel for years and years and the service has always been pretty decent. This last time I was there was by far the worst it's been. We were able to get a table at the bar (high top) outside at Alibi on a beautiful evening for some drinks and an app. We sat there for a solid 20 minutes without being acknowledged at all. A large party sat next to us and was being served drinks and food consistently, but nobody looked at our table to realize we had nothing (our eyes were wandering pretty hard at this point). Someone finally asked us if drinks had been ordered and we said no, so they took our order. Fast forward 15 more minutes and no drinks. We had to go to the host stand and ask what the issue was. Our drinks finally came and we were told "there's only one person behind the bar" at 6pm on a Saturday? Ok. It was clear that staffing is a huge issue here. Very much understaffed and we witnessed food runners confused and not sure which table to bring food to. A table next to us was asking for their food that they had ordered a while ago, so it wasn't only us having issues. Overall, they really need to fix their service. The hostess was lovely, but that's about it. Very slow and not very friendly. When I am paying $16-$18 for a cocktail, I'd like you to be friendly and pretend that you care. read more

The outdoor patio is where it's at! Although the inside looked pretty nice too, it t was just such a perfect night to be outside! It was crowded (on a Saturday night, I wouldn't expect less) but there was still enough room to move around and maneuver your way up to the bar. Finally got to try a Caipirinha (Brazilian drink) made with Beija cachaca! It was nice and strong, and very fresh! I like that it's on the fancier side, so you have an excuse to get a little dressed up! As you might then expect, it's a little on the pricier side, but definately worth it! I would definately go back next time I'm in Boston! read more

I have a close friend that used to work at the hotel so I've been to Alibi many times. It's pretty much always a good but not great experience. The drinks are tasty but expensive. They have a wide variety of liquor and bubbly, and you can even order appetizers and snacks from Scampo. The theme pretty cool... they've stuck with the jail theme and have managed to keep some of the original architecture, bars and all. That being said, the furniture inside sometimes feels a little too minimalistic. They could use some extra chairs as opposed to those dimpy little stools that are at the tables. In addition, it can get packed at times, in which case it's not as fun. Best time to come is during the summer, when they have the patio area open. It doubles the size of the bar and the patio is super fun. read more

Went there with a large group to celebrate a friend's engagement. Perfect place for such an occasion! Very cool, sleek look to the place. It could be tough to track down our cocktail waitress once it got busy, but that's to be expected on a Saturday night. We ended up moving to the patio section which is amazing - you couldn't really even tell you were right alongside a major street. Super comfy chair/table setups, with nice ambient light. Drinks & food seemed to be on the pricey side - but it's just that kind of place. Once you get over that, it's a wonderful place to enjoy a few sophisticated cocktails. read more

I like Alibi. I'm not a hipster, or too cool for school, or whatever. I'm just a guy that enjoys a drink without a ton of screaming idiots in the background. The place can get busy, but I've only had to wait once. The drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but are not weak and the atmosphere is really cool. The whole "prison cell" theme throughout is enjoyable, and there is a small area near the back of the restaurant that is a good deal more relaxed. The bartenders are attentive, and the music is good. There's a GREAT mix of people here: younger, older. Mostly the "working professional" type, but you can't really judge a book by it's cover I guess. We always use Alibi as our backup because it's reliable. Cheers! read more

Being a fan of the dimly lit cocktail dens in Manhattan, I'm glad to have found Alibi here in Boston. The Liberty Hotel's jail house motif is fun and perfectly suited for feeling like you're a 1920s rum runner flaunting the anti-saloon league. The Alibi's drinks are pretty well executed with the fruity drinks being appropriately sweet and the bourbon drinks bracing. Fresh fruits and juices, traditional ingredients like fee bros bitters and great liquors basil hayden's and cazadores. If I had one gripe, it'd be the use of machine ice in all the drinks. read more

A bar inside a hotel that used to be a jail, Alibi is hosted on the ground floor and features vault doors, brick walls, and an escape outside to a small garden area that is awesome on warm days and nights. The atmosphere is hip and trendy but not overly pretentious. The clientele is a bit over the top and a strange mix of hotel patrons, tourists, and wedding guests, but it's a fun place to hang out. The drink selection isn't huge and there are no beers on tap, but there's enough to make due and enjoy a night outside on a nice evening. read more
